- Here's another rare commercial for the short-lived (1975-1980) indoor amusement park located in Bolingbrook, IL - Old Chicago - this time advertising live appearances November 17th & 18th 1979 by David Soul, "Hutch" from ABC-TV's Starsky & Hutch. (which had already been cancelled by this point). Features a kid at the beginning forced into playing the role of a pilgrim in what appears to be his Thanksgiving school play.

"Old Chicago" Needs to be reborn!
My brother worked at Old Chicago right after his graduation from high school. He was one of the ride mechanics. He already had a background in both fixing motors (from fixing his own car motors and helping my dad fix others’ car motors on some weekends) as well as 3 years of hands-on electrical shop in high school. Sometimes he would pull an overnight shift to do major repairs on rides.

Love this! I’ve been looking for some version of the “Take me to Old Chicago…” jingle for years. I have a lot of affection for this place. It’s where I had my first date when I was 12. I took my (then) girlfriend there. Well, my _parents_ took us there :-).
Remember getting hyped up. And walking in the Building. You just cried. What A Dumpster Dive!😮

I’m 55, and I wanna go back to Old Chicago! I think we only went there two or three times when I was a kid, but it still was great. Never knew they had concerts there as well. I hope they booked Leon Redbone at least once, as his sound was perfect for the vibe/era. Bring back Marriott's Great America, too! Having grown up a Looney Tunes kid watching WGN, I didn't dig Disney---I wanted to hang with Bugs and Yosemite Sam!
I saw Peter Tork and the Monkees there I think around '80 before they closed.

Great concept, faulty execution. I could see this monstrosity from my bedroom window growing up.
Me too 😁 we lived in Beaconridge then, took us about 15 minutes to walk there, even in the winter, it's sad that it went bankrupt, had a lot of great times there, the concerts, "sneaking into the disco"... LOL. Old Chicago was way ahead of it's time.😊

I remember Old Chicago. The entire facility was made of WOOD! The theme was an old Boardwalk Park. I liked it when I was a kid, but that place was a fire hazard!
My mom took me there about a year before it closed. Several rides were not open or working so we didn't go inside the park. We just went to the mall around the park. Some stores were closed or empty and the few others held little interest. It ended up a waste of a day to a pathetic amusement park.
A Speedway gas station now sits on that property.
Amazon bought the property in 2020 for nearly $51M.
Then shortly it closed within a few months!!

I want to go back to Old Chicago too, before the criminals completely took it over. Back when people were locked up for crime, and good honest citizens could walk the streets.
Old Chicago was. Is. Also a pizza chain that Keeps 110 beers on top. They have beer challenges. They have a reward for drinking all 110 beers, as well as monthly awards for drinking all of the selected beers of the month. I used to love go there, but my loca placel closed.
