Annette stars as a simple orphan coming from a small country farm to the upper-class suburbs so she can live with an aunt and uncle she hasn't seen in years. At first, she's excited to finally have solid home. Her aunt takes her shopping and gives her a new look, while her uncle makes her school plans ready, and the house maid babies her no end. But it's the other kids in town that at last give Annette something to worry about. Some are snobs, some are obnoxious, and the ones she does get along with are the sort of people her aunt believes are beneath her. With a new crush on the popular boy in school, Annette becomes the target of his jealous girlfriend. Her life may never be simple again. The jealous girl wrongfully accuses Annette if stealing her necklace, which little did she know, fell into the piano. When it's discovered, Annette and the girl become friends. I just love how the girls all wore dresses back then...no sleezy clothes, just pure classic beauty! This was common too, I might add. You may think it was done for TV, but my Mom grew up in this era, and she said that is exactly how they dressed. Love it!
I'm an 81 year young lady and your Mom is right. Skirts and blouses, sweaters, dresses, petticoats, slips, scarves, flats (shoes). My high school days in Southern California were happy and safe and innocent. I graduated in 1959. And I loved this story (Annette) that they showed on The Mickey Mouse Club in the afternoons. I had a crush on David Stollery and Tim Considine (the two creamy dreamy stars of this sweet and corny and fun show).
@@ginnylorenz5265Ginny, you and I are about the same age, and this delightful series brought back so many wonderful memories of the late 1950s and early 1960s. I loved all the pretty dresses, and the character Val even wore a sweater guard like the one I had back then. The young lady who played Jet Maypen reminds me of Joanne Woodward, and Annette Funicello resembles the lovely Suzanne Pleshette who was also a popular star in the 1960s too. Tim Considine and David Stollery (Mike) were such gentlemen. I never tire of this charming story. What an ending!
Yes. My mom wasn’t allowed to wear the petticoats. Lots of pictures of my female family members dressed very proper.
Personally, I love wearing dresses (skirts and blouses included) and always have.
@@robinschwartz6977 I still wear skirts and tops like sweaters, linens, tee shirts, depending on the season. I find skirts more comfortable than slacks. Most of mine are linen, no need for wool in my moderate climate.
Back when I was growing up in the 1950s and early 1960s, we called those poofy half slips "crinoline slips". We even starched them to make them really stand out. Lots of those in the Annette series. They had faded away by the mid 1960s.
My Grandmother used to make my Mother and Aunts dresses, they were so elegant
I love this serial. I watch this every time I'm sick, I'm fighting cancer. So I watch it OFTEN ok DAILY. Thank you for posting it. When I was younger in the 80's Disney played the Mickey Mouse club from the 50's. So I'd race home to watch Annette just to see what would happen. I'm so happy on my sick days I have this wonderful serial to watch once again thank you.
I pray for your recovery.

I just intended to watch maybe a couple of minutes to see what this is about and then click away. Here I am still watching 3 hours later 😂
They just don’t make the shows today like they did back then. They were very innocent and family friendly. Corny, sometimes, yes, but so much better quality.
Instead of tattoos, they had corsages. Instead of twerking they had men and women dancing together. Instead of sexy revealing clothes, they had lovely, classy dresses. 👌
Wow this is an old show. I’m 73 so I remember watching this. So cool! 😊
You look younger than 73. You look about 60.
Me too.
I never saw it before.
I am not old enough to remember this story.
I'm enjoying this show.
A happier inncocent time..no social media...adorable kids.

I remember watching this every day after school. We loved Annette and couldn't wait for the next day's episode. Brings back memories.
Annette Funicello was role model for many teenagers back then.
You are so right! I am teaching my grandson to open the doors and hold chairs for the ladies!
RIP Anette Funicello, TIm Considine and Cheryl Holdridge
Jet also has passed I believe just last yr.
It's well-known in RTF (radio, television and film) that *art* imitates *life*. Not the other way around. And it make me want to cry like a blubbering baby when I watch "Annette" knowing that this 'art' is imitating a period in life that was true and honorable. Sure there were bad people in the world back then but the general consensus was the it was a bad thing to be a bad person and purity was a goal, not an insult. So when you sit watching shows like this and listening to songs that remind you of better days, enjoy the moment. Embrace it. Don't let anyone tell you're "living in the past" as if it was a bad thing. This is an era that we will never see again for as long as Earth exists.

A year since I’ve watched this & now I’m back again. Flat out with Covid, somehow with the idea watching something clean and innocent like this series would help me feel better. It’s working. Annette Funicello is like a health tonic.

I love this show… Laura was the original “Mean Girl” LOL!!!
She certainly makes me quiver!
Heheh! That makes total sense! 😆

And, you are 13 now! I don't things were quite like this in the "old days" but a lot easier and safer than today!
I was aged 3 when this was first broadcast, so my memories of the time are a bit limited. But I will say that from the things I CAN recall, it was a really nice time to be a kid.

Man I loved this show. I was 10 years old when it came on...and I couldn't wait to be a teenager, based on this show!
There was a kind of magic about Annette Funicello. Impossible to define, But you can't take your eyes off of her.
I just love her. What a sweet girl. She didn't deserve the lousy break she got contracting MS. Horrible affliction. My brother is wheelchair bound with it.
Speechless...I can say Annette is and was simply beautiful

I was madly in love with David Stollery and when he was in this or "Spin and Marty" I bounced on the sofa in pure excitement. If anybody hasn't seen "Spin and Marty" don't miss it. The two young stars really showed their acting talent at a very early age.

High school cliques were just the same then lol
When I was in highschool there were only a couple of cliques, the rest of the kids were friendly with everyone.
When kids TV gave a good example to young people. An example totally lacking in the last few decades.
My mother who is a Baby boomer introduced this to me. I love it!! I binged watched it last year. Here I am again
Sort of a combination of Debbie Reynolds in Tammy...and Sandra Dee in Giget. When teens werwere overly.. lovely, respectful and wholesome.
Watched this beginning to end in one day !! I’m obsessed it’s unlike anything you can find in film these days , a nice reprieve from 2020s misery business ! How I wish I grew up in this time
I thought I was the only one! I stumbled upon this and watched in a day! I then started watching a ton of documentaries on Annette and her story is just beautiful. I saw a documentary that her husband did right before she passed, and I bawled my eyes out. RIP Annette Funicello. The world needs more people like you.
I did grow up in those times. It was such a slower time, kids had respect for adults and each other. And the music was just wonderful. I loved watching Annette, the Micky Mouse Club, The Patty Duke Show, The Lone Ranger, Roy Rogers, Sky King, Sgt. Preston of the Yukon, and my other favorites...Lassie and Fury! Oh what wonderful memories!!
I watched this in its original run. Annette was not perfect, but that's what we liked about her. She never tried to be anybody but herself. She was the real deal. Not a natural actress, she clomped into rooms, hit her mark and said her line, but she was was so sweet you couldn't help but love her. She was rightly the most popular of all the mouseketeers. Everyone knew. Annette was dearly loved and sorely missed.
Yes
I least we now know, people were rude then.
Wow Annette got her own show within a show even. She must have been Disney's favorite. She was too big to be a Mouseketeer so this show was created for her. She never disappointed. R.I.P. Annette.
She was. I also read she got the most fan mail and was a huge fan favorite.
The cast of familiar faces is a delight; Dennis the Menace, Leave it to Beaver, My Three Sons, The Donna Reed Show.
Ashford looks like a wonderful place to live..
This was so wonderful. A special time.
The entire high school freshman class rushed home to watch, then discussed it next day. All the boys liked the chick fight, the girls rooted for Annette to win. My friend Brian's goal in life was to win the Indy 500 and have Annette kiss him in the victor's circle.
What year was this
Tim Consadine (Steven) really has a "Charlie Sheen at age Fifteen" sort of vibe. I just looked him up. He just passed away on March 3, 2022, at age 81... Rest In Peace Tim!
He was one of Disney’s teen heartthrobs, I remember my big sister swooning over him ☺️❤️

The beginning with Mary Wickes narrating is very similar to the opening of the Doris Day film “By the Light of the Silvery Moon” also with Mary Wickes narrating and playing a housekeeper.

You can see a lot of Disney's old movies on the Disney+ channel. Of course, that costs $5 a month to subscribe. I bought it for my daughter's 34th birthday at her request. I enjoy watching old Disney movies, too. I'm 73.

Wonderful, talented bunch. I miss good wholesome programming.
Oh, how wonderful❕Thank you so much for sharing these episodes of Annette on CZcams ‼️
I remember the black rotary phone shown in this movie. We had one in the hallway of our apartment, when I was a little girl and and lived with my parent's during the 1960's. We only had the one phone and in those days the phone belonged to Pacific Bell, or maybe called (Bell Telephone Company.) No one owned their phone, or at least where we lived. The telephone company leased them to their customers in those long ago days.
I actually picked one of those up at an estate sale years ago; it's stuck in a box somewhere in the garage and since I'm an old lady now, it'll probably be in my own estate sale some day 🤭 what I remember most about it is that the receiver is dang heavy!
Annette sure was good at her most frequent role.... the most innocent person in the world.

A couple of actresses who were more famous later in life are in this show. Shelley Fabares (Mozelle) had a hit song called "Johnny Angel" and was a co-star of "Coach" with Craig T. Nelson. Roberta Shore (Laura here) played the daughter of Judge Garth on The Virginian western series in the 1960s.

I know what it's like being the new kid in school. My parents moved 7 times. When I got married, I told my wife I wanted to live in the same place for a LONG time. We've had the same house for 48 years and the same wife for 53 years.
so many kids that were displaced due to parent's jobs/military making them move frequently often develop bonding challenges in life. Difficulty building meaningful relationships and lack of coping skills. You seem to be the exception. Congratulations on your being an exception.
congratulations Robert on 53yrs of marriage. What a wonderful example you must be to those around you.

@@omi_god for the time and era they were considered pretty risque
I always admired Annette because she made everyone feel we were her friend and a gentle soul which I haven't seen in any series including the Mickey Mouse Club. The saddest part was when she got MS and wished she never got it. One particular actress name Terri Garr got this horrible disease too besides Annette. I wished they could find a cure to eliminate it.
Wish we could go back to those days
I remember how much I was smitten by Annette in those days and now I remember why! What a sweetheart! May she rest in peace. On another note, how FAR our humanity has degraded from those days. Although it may have been exaggerated in this drama, there was obviously much more wholesomeness, manners and respect for elders. On the other had, although I am by no means a "feminist" I must say I was shocked by how much the males in this short film get away with showing so much disrespect for the females. Anyway, it was a marvelous look back in time. Thank you for posting it!
‘Feminist’ is typically defined as one who believes in equality between the sexes. I believe in totally equal respect… not shown by the Steady Ware character toward the Kitty Blaylock character… not at all.
Mary Wickes....helluva lady.....played the same kinda scene stealing characters from back here in the 50s all the way to Sister Act nearly 40 years later!
Mary played a nurse in "Now Voyager", 1942. She appeared in films in the late 1930's.
Always brilliant in every role!
And interesting. Nowadays it seems like all the actors and actresses look alike.
Mary Wickes and Eve Arden - both really funny and cut from the same cloth in the humour and scene-stealing department.
Annette Funicello and Shelley Fabares - Friends Forever.
Born in 1952. What sweet memories this show brings back. Thank you for sharing and fixing the audio.
She's so beautiful always loved her movies with Frankie too. MS sucks rip Annette 🙏😔.
I thought she was a real mug when she was a teenager. Homely as mud. Her looks dramatically improved when she got older and she became good-looking. It was the same thing with Shelley Fabares from the Donna Reed Show. Some people improve with age.
This is wonderful.past times and past solutions to the same problems of everyday life.absolutely lovely.
As a kid of the 50's, I watched this show when first broadcast. My sister and several neighbor kids would take an afternoon break that summer to never miss the Mickey Mouse Club and watched on the ol' black and white. We'd have a snack--I remember popsicles or Kool-aid, and we loved this show. We couldn't tape it to watch it again, so we had to pay attention the first and only time. There was another series on Mickey Mouse Club: Spin and Marty, with Tim Considine, too.
Of course, Annette was so pretty as was Laura ( Roberta Shore)

When I heard how Annette died, it makes me to want to cry. She kind and Very talented.
Poor Laurie, she reached a conclusion and leaped right over it. I really admire her for her sincere apology to Annette for having accused her of stealing the necklace. And for Jett’s apology to Laurie for socking her. I’m so glad for the happy ending. I have a 7 year old great grandson named Jett ✈️ .
I loved this movie and remember this from when I was teenager.
Tim Considine just passed away recently. He played Stephen. I believe he was in his 80's. Rest in peace 🙏
He was 81.
I love this movie and Annette is such a good actress. So sad she had all the health issues later in life. She passed away all too soon.
Love this series a lot. Been watching it since I first discovered it a few days ago. I'm a real Annette fan, and I enjoy her performance and role in this serial.
First time I saw it, one of the things that made me react the most was when the necklace was finally found during the finale episode. I was so surprised to learn that it had been in the piano all along. And also, in that one much earlier part where Laura deliberately knocks that cake slice onto Annette's dress, I knew right away, in annoyance, that she had done it on purpose. So I made sure to be cautious of her for the rest of the episode.
And to add, my favorite episodes in this show are all the ones that take place during Annette attending Val's party (side note: love Val's dress during those episodes, and I was surprised to learn that she was played by Mickey Mouse Club member Doreen Tracy and that she was born in England).
Wonderful movie. Very enjoyable.
Thank you for making this morals and culture-wars filled Disney classic available for subsequent generations, but why did you disclose the solution to the necklace mystery in your synopsis? You gave away the emotional reason for watching it through to the end, before it even started. By the way, in the series, Annette HAD NEVER MET her aunt and uncle prior to the start of the storyline. I know they all have real-world names, but kudos to Annette's sincere and genuine style of performing. Also, Katie the maid, Moselle the sympathetic socialite, Mike the soda jerk, and Jet the best friend, all performed masterfully. Some commenters above labeled the 1958 classic "Annette" as predictable and boring, but representing an era when life was a little more innocent and wholesome than it is today, this series is still truly entertaining and lesson-filled for modern viewers around the world and of all age groups. Thanks again!

Annette is just beautiful and so sweet! Is the actress playing Kate the same actress who played one of the nuns from Sister Act?
