Jason, I’m looking for a b cam for my a7siii. I’m developing a CZcams channel and I think I’ll upload videos in 1080p. Use the A7siii as my primary cam and the A7C as an over angle and as a street photography cam. If I need something for more professional shoots I can use my eos r5(which I don’t like for video) is the A7C a good fit for me in your opinion. This would be an alternative to buying an a1 and using the a7siii as the b cam. Thoughts?
great review Jason, and welcome back from your family trip. I'm still deliberating on purchasing the #Sony A7c #BeAlpha yes am waiting to see what's next, but am wanting to step up from a Sony A6400. I am a German living in Thailand and mainly doing street, urban and people photography. Instead of Leica Q, Fuji X100V, or Ricoh GRIII I decided for the Sony A7C and using the camera with five small lenses: Voigtländer 21/3.5 and 35/1.4, Sony 28/2 and Samyang 45/1.8 and 75/1.8. Excellent camera for my sujets, light, reliable real time tracking with eye-AF, good image quality and many lenses with E-mount available.
I love my A7c. I switched to it from a Nikon D500 and it honestly feels like when I switched from film to the Nikon D70. Trading something which had become bulky and cumbersome (D500 literally; film metaphorically) for a shrunken total package. No more planning walkabout sessions- the A7c is basically a necklace lol. I'm back to shooting all the time 🤘
the a7c honestly sounds like a dream! I’m very much into videography and have owned the sony a6000 for around 8 years now. It is definitely a great camera as a beginner, but I’m feeling very limited rn. It only shoots in HD and doesn’t perform well in low light. I’m starting to save for my dream camera now! It’s quite a lot of money since I am only a student, but if I work hard, hopefully I’ll finally be able to lay my hands on one of these this summer! Thank you for the great video
Here's the best way to make use of gyro data, for those who are interested. Shoot in 1080p, 60 fps. Set the shutter speed to 1/125 to 1/160, IBIS off. Stabilize in catalyst browse and then go down to 24fps. This gives fairly usable footage. That footage is not very grading friendly though due to lesser bitrate so the more you expose it right in camera, the better.
I use the a7c for several years now and i like it very much. I added a smallrig cage 3212 which makes it heavier but it is now more stable in videos. Also the v2 firmware add the eye AF for animal in videos. I also bought the professional flash and it increase the quality of the photos with the fill flash and bounce techniques. With a little more knowledge, the a7c is really a pro camera hybrid. The best is to have the wide lens tamron and the tele lenses with the flash covering all these range. I added also the bluetooth remote and a pro microphone Azden smx30 mono/stereo for the best sound quality. To complement this kit a crane m3 or a weebill 3 will make it definitive package for everything. 24mp very good in low light, HLG3 movie hdr quality. Even if it is 8 bit video the quality is very high. The smallrig 3212 adds a nice grip, make it more stable in video. It is important as the camera is TOO lightweight and every movement is recorded and the Ibis in motion video is not capable like a a7r5. But making it heavier with a cage and microphone and improves a lot the stabilization. The gyro stabilization is good also with increased shutter speed to 1/200s when we want motions. Ibis is very good for photo (even with my tamron at 300mm as soon it is static or few motion) and static video (especially with the cage 3212 handle) . Adding a flash improves your photos more than buying a new camera or lenses. You must learn how to use it and set your camera with the flash to improve the quality. Lighting is important. Not simply the body. All components around are important. For less or equal than just only the body a7R5 you get a full photo/video package fullframe 24mp 4k video, sound , light, I recommend it even today in 2023.
Ha,ha - couldn't wait ! I finally picked up my a7c on Saturday! Super happy with my "impulse" buy. Coming from an a7iii/ a6500, I feel right at home with it but am really loving the form factor. I am delighted to be sizing down for my camera bag again!
Great video! I’m loving my a7c with kit lens and looking for perfect vlogging lens… think I’ll order the Sony 20mm! I have small hands and want my camera as small and light as I can get it, love the feel of this one! :)
Glad to see this video aged well! With the Sony A7C II out, it sure is the perfect camera 🙌🏼 they just needed to add good video specs and it’d be sweet 🔥
Jason, this is an awesome video. I picked up the a7c and the Sony 20mm 1.8 G today ( to join my a7siii and avoid-1) right after watching this video, seriously! Also, I would like to request that you make a video on cage setups for the a7siii.
Ya I also have the a7Siii as my main camera and just recently bought the A7C (with a Smallrig cage comes with a nice silicone deeper grip) for my B camera as I often do 2 camera shoots with the A7C sometimes on a tripod with a Sony 20mm 1.8. I have the a7c for a year now, and we like very much the quality of our photos and videos. I now start to know well the menus and settings. I also experienced post stabilization with catalyst browse which works really as soon as you know how to set your camera. For me i set at 1/250 and steady shot off. And it works very well. Near Gimbal like quality. I have a setting ready to go for this type of videos (setting 2). I reserve that only for walking videos. Everything else is just fine with ibis. Photos are really really good. With tamron 17-28 and 70-300. I use a lot aps-c mode in videos and sometime in photo for wildlife photography. The sony a7c is very high end camera and beautiful as well. Good to have, would be active stabilization like a7siii and now a7iv. Eye tracking in video for animal like in the a7iv. Focus assist, and the camera would be perfect. 4k60 would be nice but i don’t like big files to manage. 4k24 and 1080p120 are fine for me.
Loved the video! Thanks for sharing! I definitely couldn't wait and got the A7C when it came out a few months ago. I've been using it to film all my talking head shots for my videos. I'm excited to finally get out to shoot in the real world when I start traveling again! Please make a video about the A7SIII! I'd love to know your thoughts on how it's been going the last several months. This is basically my dream camera- maybe someday :)
Hey Jason ... i got a question ... currently have 2x cameras a6400 (only for web streaming / web cam) with Sigma 16mm 1.4. Also have a sony a7iii with a couple G Master lenses for family/travel/hobby/events. I am thinking of either selling both camera for a single sony a7siii + 24mm G 1.4 as both webcam/stream and events. Not sure if the a7siii is overkill for my needs. Due to the lockdown, a7iii is collecting dust... a6400 is getting plenty of use :)
Aww..I loved the video! Laughed out loud more than once- thanks! Just ordered the a7c and the kit lens with 85mm Sony lens- would love for you to do a video (if you haven't already) showing users how to make the most of the five lenses you recommended in this video. You were just a joy to learn from and your messaging was clear, concise, and humorous- what more could be improved upon?
@@JasonVong Just slight front heavy. The Sigma 28-70mm balances much better (I have the new Sigma 28-70mm as well) but prefer the reach with the 28-200mm. The 28-200mm is pretty much the same weight and size as the Tamron 28-75mm if you want a feel of it.
Great job on the review, I will be buying it as my 1st casual photography camera. They create their own lens for it, wow. Which lens do you prefer I buy for it? I want to do portraits for IG, street photography, and bit of landscapes.
New subscriber! I love your videos and your humor! I am about to pull the trigger on the A7C - your videos have been very helpful. I am mostly going to use it for content for my channel, but I also really like still photography. I am drawn to the size and weight of this camera. Also, while I don't consider myself "lazy" (lol), I feel like some of the more professional cameras are over-kill for me. Are there any other full-frame vlogging camera's for me to consider before I get out my credit card? Getting close to 2023 and wondering if I am missing something that is better (but similar in size and weight)!
For content creators there really aren't many options from Sony if you want a flip screen. It's either the A7C or A7siii (which costs twice as much). The gyro stabilistation sounds great on paper but I never use it because of the annoying workflow with catalyst browse. At the end of the day it is a solid camera for content creators but not the best thing for people who take photographs or don't film themselves.
C stands for "we are Coming for LeiCa". I hope we keep getting additional generations of these. If they keep tweaking this they can get all of us that want a LeiCa but can't afford it (like 90% of photographers soooo)
I am getting the A7C as my first Full Frame camera. I pan on using it for Church Photography. This would be my first sony camera. Would you guys give me any advise? God bless you all.
This will probably be my first full frame. Thanks fro the review. BTW...How did you get that Helicopter to fly for you man. I will be in Seoul soon. Need to get up in the air and boast on my vlog as well...haha...Cheers bro!
I almost got the a7c solely for the no record limit but the lack of custom buttons threw me off. I won’t watch your a7siii follow up review because I know you’ll convince me to buy it and I can’t afford it now 😛
Welcome to Korea! I'm a new subscriber since few months ago! I hope you enjoyed staying in Korea! Your videos are all amazing! I've learned a lot as well!
Superior performance at night compared to any Apple and Sony flagship phone thanks to the FULL FRAME SENSOR. I can crop in and the picture and video quality doesn't degrade and Sony does not over sharpen compared with Samsung. IBIS is crap but it's a compact professional camera. When it sits in my DJI Ronin SC gimbal, no one knows I'm recording XD. So it's good for walking videos without being too obvious.
I'm not a photographer (but I want to learn a little bit). I'm thinking in buying a A7C and quit buying new phones every year because "the new one takes better pictures" what do you think?
I can add. I own a 7C for half a year, the Tamron 17-28 F2.8 and Tamron 28-200 / are more suitable for video, it is inconvenient to take photos through a small viewfinder. On the street, the screen is completely bad, you can't see anything. For operational shooting, the 7C is not very convenient, it is not a convenient grip, there are few buttons. The high-power objects make it almost as large as 7M3.
@@jinxnarzy2920 The only option we have, I've had the A6500, now got the A6400, features are there, but bit dated and could do with the bigger IBIS in the A7 range amongst other things of course
@@attaillahmoza if you are going apsc, 6600 is best one, fixes all issues with 6500 (I've made a video about all the issues and why I got my 6400) but the price point is closer to the a7c. 6500 is good but quite old now.
Amazing video! I just recently purchased my Sony A7C… and it’s amazing when I’m the only one in the photo. How do I get everyone in focused when I take group photos? I think my setting is set up to track 1 person’s eye
ohhh what a gorgeous shot on the helycopter, what camera did you used to film yourself Jason ? is super super clean and creamy. thanks for your great videos, as always .-)
I'm looking for a camera I can take with me when I run and mountain bike in the hills and also for dog photography, as in dogs having fun in the outdoors. Do you think this is a portable full frame? Some of the lenses look compact enough that I could backpack the camera for runs.
Love your videos Jason. Keep them coming when you can. I upgraded from a6500 to a7c and I love it. I did however find that the external microphone jack feels a little loose. Did you notice that on yours?
You say upgraded - in practice have you noticed and discernible difference in your photos or videos ? - I have the a6400 and am hesitating to go to the 7c as not sure I would really see any difference in practice
Looks like a great "video body" for hybrid shooters. Smaller gimbal, no EVF bulk in the way, shoots past 30 minutes if you are asked for a tripod shot like interviews and docs. I don't really see this as the "street photography" camera unless you also like burning money. If it's just photos you can get an RP or Z5 or older models of any FF camera. But yeah, for people on a budget this body with a basic tiny lens and the cheapest gimbal is probably the cheapest way to produce videos that, simply, don't suck.
Just came across you’re channel Jason … brilliant stuff ! Very entertaining and informative , love your style man ! Am considering getting the A7c and you’ve helped tremendously in making my decision …. Just subscribed ….. maybe you could get the Lamborghini too 😂😎
Hi Jason, can you tell me if the A7c will shoot brackets while using the remote control app? A73 and A73r will, but my A72 series won’t, and the A6500 won’t.
When is the next version coming out where the video features are better? Im a videographer and I like the flip screen, but you seemed to think the a7c was better for photo... So when is the new one out where I get both?
I am an old fart with an original A6000 who only shoots stills (I tried 1080 video just to see if it worked). I am looking to upgrade to A6600 or A7C. One reason I purchased the A6000 was I could use some of my older Pentax prime lens like my circa 1955 500mm F4 lens (aka the 'beast'). I used 'old school' lens stabilization (i.e. a sturdy tripod and sandbag) with that lens. I am wondering how well A7C would work with the old Pentax lens in FF mode.
Before watching I let my like because it’s impossible your content be bad! Thanks for one more amazing video Jason! One question: For videos at home what lens do you recommend for Sony a7C? I’m between sony 20mm 1.8 and Tamron 28-70mm 2.8. Thanks and God bless you. Cheers from 🇧🇷
I haven’t loved a camera like this one since canon released the first dslr that took video. I take this camera everywhere. I don’t think the mark ii will be out anytime soon, but I’m sure I will get it? Thanks for the video! Oh and the fact that Sony made this camera look vintage is such a huge plus!
That sucks to hear about the screen on there. The whole point is to upgrade from my iPhone. They’re making it really hard though. When I record, I’m constantly tapping the screen to focus on whatever object I’m trying to record. From what I hear, that has some lag on this camera. despite being a lot more expensive. And if I’m getting a downgrade on the screen as well when it comes to brightness and what I’m able to see, and if I can tell what is in focus or not, that kind of defeats the whole purpose. As the cameras on the phones, get better and better, they need to do more to keep up and stay competitive.
I loved your video. I got a pixel 6 pro last year and take great pics but I don't like the user interface as much as Samsung's. I got the S22 ultra a couple days ago and I love the user interface but pixel takes better pics. I am thinking in staying with Samsung and just buying a Sony A7C and keep it for years and stop buying new phones every year or couple years. What do you think?

dammit, I'd knew I get called out! CLOSE ENOUGH 😂😂😂
I was about to call this out too 😆
Thought about it too. But I just thought to myself it’s prob still relevant. I love this camera.
I guess if a product came out last day of 2020, then Jan 1st 2021 it would be acceptable to come out with a "1 year later" video, LOL!
@@gr1629
It's not. 🙄🤷🏽♀️
Picked up the a7C as a backup camera and I absolutely love it.
Great review man, hit all the info perfectly and I agree with all the points you made.
oh snaps i mightve missed it! How do I sway you to get the a7SIII? 😂
@@JasonVong ohhhh about $4,000 is a start :D
I love my A7c. I switched to it from a Nikon D500 and it honestly feels like when I switched from film to the Nikon D70. Trading something which had become bulky and cumbersome (D500 literally; film metaphorically) for a shrunken total package. No more planning walkabout sessions- the A7c is basically a necklace lol. I'm back to shooting all the time 🤘
Brother Love from India 🇮🇳 ❤️
the a7c honestly sounds like a dream!
I’m absolutely loving it! It has inspired me to start my own CZcams and learn all the skills and tricks of the trade! Having so much fun learning 🙌🏽
20 is great!!
@@JasonVong been using it a couple months now and LOVE IT! So glad I got this lens :)
Gives me a nice wide-angle shot while I run and gun with the a7Siii. AMAZING!! 2 matched FF cameras with same colour science to cut together in Premiere! 😎
It's my first Sony and my first full frame camera, and I LOVE it! Thanks for recommending 85mm lens, BTW :)
It’s my first full frame too! Learning so much with it!
TY! This was super helpful for me on deciding to purchase this camera. Looking forward to it a LOT now.
Great review of all the features. Looking forward to the a7s III review!
Omg yes! Thank you! I needed this video because I’ve been debating on getting the a7c or not.
I love love this camera! And I just got it🤣 Yes my first full frame. Glad you had a safe trip back to the U.S.
Are you still loving it? I'm a bout to buy as my first full frame
@@shakeywithlife YES 100%
I love the a7c too. It is very good.
@@CC-gt3ro thanksfir the info.. we're they your first lenses? I actually have the a7c now too, i just got a sony 50mm full frame lens today.. love the camera for what it's worth
You are getting better and better Jason! Your videos are a joy to watch..
thanks for tuning back in1!
I use mine as a second body, with my A7III as the main workhorse for my portrait/fashion shoots.
I just bought an A7C and was wondering what lenses you like to use for your shoots
@@RonkeyRong I mainly use a 35mm for medium to wide portraits (that include the background) and an 85mm for close-ups.
Hey Jason - great video (as always). I'm looking forward MORE to getting my A7c after watching, Thanks lots.
I am not a photographer even not interested in videography but i don’t know why I always watch your videos.
oh wow thats interesting! would you mind sharing what aspects of my videos you enjoy? 😮
Love your videos!
thank you sir!!
Brou, es cuando descubro el lado de consumidor de los youtubers que veo jajaja
Que ya salga la Sony a7IV 🥺🤘🏾
Hey Jason I have watched many of your videos and really enjoy your content - as well as your humor. You are born to do this work. I gave a small donation to put my money where my mouth is. I hope you keep up the good work. I am subscribed to your channel. I have two A7Cs and love them.
Appreciate the kind words and the super thanks! I hope the a7Cs will serve ya well!!
Really appreciate the super comprehensive review after really putting the a7C to use! You covered so much!!!
"it's not about the size, it's about how you use it" - Jason Vong 2021
oh I used it well alright 😆
Jason - just came across your review - wow incredible insight paired with particle application I watched to the end !
I'm about to recieve this cam as my Christmas gift. I watched your video two years ago, when i got my sony a6100, and I wanted to upragrade to this one later, so now I think i'm prepared to do so. Thank you for your review on Sony a7c
Hi!
the a7c in comparison to a6600 have a better dynamics ranges stop?
Aww..I loved the video! Laughed out loud more than once- thanks! Just ordered the a7c and the kit lens with 85mm Sony lens- would love for you to do a video (if you haven't already) showing users how to make the most of the five lenses you recommended in this video. You were just a joy to learn from and your messaging was clear, concise, and humorous- what more could be improved upon?
So you reckon I should replace this with my A7 III ?
My absolute fav travel camera. A7C + Tamron 28-200mm!
nice! how's the balance with that setup?
@@JasonVong Just slight front heavy. The Sigma 28-70mm balances much better (I have the new Sigma 28-70mm as well) but prefer the reach with the 28-200mm.
The 28-200mm is pretty much the same weight and size as the Tamron 28-75mm if you want a feel of it.
No. 1 a7c review.
No other words are needed.
thanks!
Aww thanks man!
I was thinking of buying the 7C Sony until I saw this video. I will wait for the next model of the 7C. thanks a million.
lol funny personality - been on an a6300 and debating upgrading but I can wait, thanks for the review
Should I still buy this camera or wait for the a7c II?
Nice video, I am thinking to upgrade my A6000 to the A7C. Keep up the good work Jason we appreciate all the time you put in the videos.
I like the concept of the a7C. But since I have the a7RIII and a6600, I may wait for the a7C II, hopefully with 10bit video and 4K 60fps.
even A1 doesn't do 10bit, so that may be a bit wishful. don't know why sony won't do 10bit - probably an overheating thing?
@@wheimsickal the A1 does do 10 but I thought? 4:2:0
how long do you think until the a7c II is released?
Great job on the review, I will be buying it as my 1st casual photography camera.
They create their own lens for it, wow.
Which lens do you prefer I buy for it? I want to do portraits for IG, street photography, and bit of landscapes.
Thank you sir! Revisit 4:38! I listed my top picks!!
Thank you for this fantastic video! The added benefit of your sense of humor made watching an informative video really fun as well!
Getting close to 2023 and wondering if I am missing something that is better (but similar in size and weight)!
also keeping in mind the "still" photgraphy!
Great video Jason! Still learning new things about the camera from the video and you used 1 of my shots! Woot!
Love the video! It was informative, easy enough to understand for beginner photographers like me, and funny! Keep up the good work.
C stands for "we are Coming for LeiCa". I hope we keep getting additional generations of these. If they keep tweaking this they can get all of us that want a LeiCa but can't afford it (like 90% of photographers soooo)
Did Sony make the ZV-E1 based on this video?
Yep, I use an A7R IV for my main and looking for a backup cam. You quickly answered that question for me. Thanks!
I am getting the A7C as my first Full Frame camera. I pan on using it for Church Photography. This would be my first sony camera. Would you guys give me any advise? God bless you all.
This is the exact video I've been looking for lately, now that I'm thinking about travel photo gear. Thanks!
This will probably be my first full frame. Thanks fro the review. BTW...How did you get that Helicopter to fly for you man. I will be in Seoul soon. Need to get up in the air and boast on my vlog as well...haha...Cheers bro!
Amazing content! Thinking if I should go with the a7c or save for the a7siii.
I almost got the a7c solely for the no record limit but the lack of custom buttons threw me off.
I won’t watch your a7siii follow up review because I know you’ll convince me to buy it and I can’t afford it now 😛
😜
I can only imagine how much time it took you to make this great vid. I enjoyed it a lot! Thanks!
Hi Jason. Entertainig review. Thanks ! I wonder how did you travel with so much gear to Korea? Can you make a session on that?
Welcome to Korea! I'm a new subscriber since few months ago! I hope you enjoyed staying in Korea! Your videos are all amazing! I've learned a lot as well!
thank you! We had a blast!!
Jason is one of the most entertaining camera junky out there
A7c or a6700? Which one do you prefer buying?
How does the image quality compare to the good old RX1. Mine broke years ago but it was the best IQ ever.
Great breakdown dude. This is going to be my backup option when I get disappointed about the specs and price of the a74 when it gets announced 😎
Sameeee lol, I'm also waiting for a7 4 prices.. if it's too costly then Imma choose the a7c
@@jinxnarzy2920 The only option we have, I've had the A6500, now got the A6400, features are there, but bit dated and could do with the bigger IBIS in the A7 range amongst other things of course
hey man i'm about to buy a new cam and never used a sony before, which one will you recommend, buy the 6500 or should i save more for the a7c ?
@@attaillahmoza if you are going apsc, 6600 is best one, fixes all issues with 6500 (I've made a video about all the issues and why I got my 6400) but the price point is closer to the a7c. 6500 is good but quite old now.
Amazing video! I just recently purchased my Sony A7C… and it’s amazing when I’m the only one in the photo. How do I get everyone in focused when I take group photos? I think my setting is set up to track 1 person’s eye
ohhh what a gorgeous shot on the helycopter, what camera did you used to film yourself Jason ? is super super clean and creamy. thanks for your great videos, as always .-)
what I wanna know about: A7M3 or A7C, which is the best choice in different scenarios
Love your reviews and your comedy is solid. Had a few lols. Subbed!
Does the a7c use the same batteries as a7s? same lenses too I guess. Thanks for the thorough video
Jason, what lens hood do you use for the 28-60 lens that comes with the Sony 7C
bro ur great ....
i want to buy A7c for travel vlogging. how will it be and can u suggest some wide angle lenses for this?
Looks like a great "video body" for hybrid shooters. Smaller gimbal, no EVF bulk in the way, shoots past 30 minutes if you are asked for a tripod shot like interviews and docs. I don't really see this as the "street photography" camera unless you also like burning money. If it's just photos you can get an RP or Z5 or older models of any FF camera.
But yeah, for people on a budget this body with a basic tiny lens and the cheapest gimbal is probably the cheapest way to produce videos that, simply, don't suck.
Dear can you suggest me the better one lens for A7c for all purposes ( traveling, family photos, portrait, wide etc) ..,
Thanks
Just came across you’re channel Jason … brilliant stuff ! Very entertaining and informative , love your style man ! Am considering getting the A7c and you’ve helped tremendously in making my decision …. Just subscribed ….. maybe you could get the Lamborghini too 😂😎
Ok, you got me! When you said BIG meaty claws, and then showed the Sponge Bob clip. LOL
My life revolves around random moments in old school SpongeBob
You made me laugh/smile a few times. Very enjoyable video! and I subscribed and looking forward to more videos. :-)
Sorry if I missed it, what's the orange circular key chain thing in the side of the camera?
I just ordered an A7C with Sony 20 f1.8 as a second body setup to my a7Siii setup. Excited to move away from my older A6500 as my B-cam.
thanks you helped make my decision easier, cant wait to get mine
What do you think?
im starting to become a newbie photographer/content creator I I been looking at this camera for a while and your video gave me great ideas thanks
hahahahahaha "what do I know"..... frames of amazing pics, you are so funny, the best :)
