its like this guys: floyd sr started the thing. floyd jr won his early fights @ 19 years more offensively than we ever saw. his dad did the whole thing, his fashion of boxing was awesome, remember the national champs he won with his fathers input. when sr was locked up, roger perfected what sr started. they are all good trainers

Both Floyd Sr. and Roger deserve a lot of credit for their work with Floyd. Anyone who was around at the time will tell you that Floyd jr was pretty much a world class polished fighter before he even turned pro, thanks to his father moulding him into that from a very very young age. As much a pain in the ass as Senior can be, anyone who understands training fighters will tell you that he laid the foundation and that was critical. Junior would have been a world class fighter regardless of who trained him , however he became a great fighter was everything being a perfect storm of his brilliant mind, his physical capabilities, work ethic and his father's style of boxing really suited Floyd jr perfectly. Everything came together to create a wonderful machine of skill.
Where Roger deserves credit is for guiding Floyd's already world class potentially great ability as a pro after taking over from Senior a few fights into his career. Another perfect storm coming together was Floyd's already developed ability and Rogers mitt work, all those thousands of hours with that style of mitt work (which is slightly different and superior to Senior's) kept Floyd razor sharp physically and mentally.
They were both perfect for Floyd's development and both came at the perfect time for that development. Senior took a genetically blessed child and gave him a style and skill perfect for him and Roger did his job perfectly at just the right time when Floyd jr needed exactly what Roger gave him .

When I see a savant pass , and make no mistake , Mamba was a savant at understanding the science of boxing. I think at all that knowledge that passes with him . Yes he passed along a ton to Jr. And others he trained but I'm talking about the way Roger viewed the game , the way he broke down opponents , how he studied opponents etc.. that's a ton of knowledge just gone.
