    Oil change on my 2020 Mercury 9.9. I went step by step from the manual that came with this motor when I got it brand new last year.

    I've been a Mercury outboard man since the 80s. That motor is a huge deal here in the Ozarks. The best river motor you can find. All you need is a box of cotter pins

      Cotter pins yes

      Any chance you might know why my 2006 9.9 Merc 4 stroke started leaking oil badly? Seems to be where the powerhead bolts on. Just looking for advice before I tear into it. This was something it recently started doing. It is a low hour motor and runs well otherwise.

    after several oil changes and saving the 5 oz. I have enough on the boat to use my magma brill and a pan to have me some 10-30 oil fish fry! LOL nice vid. thx.

    I like your humor I learned a lot I bought a pump from my dealership so I could pop oil in from the bottom apparently that’s for the lower end portion

    The 9.9 Merc 4 cycles have an accelerator pump, and each twist of the throttle floods the engine with a shot of gasoline. Don't flood the engine, with or without the engine running.

    Thanks dude, watched and did, was a snap. Did the gear oil too, was just as easy. Happy boating

    You would think Mercury would make a drain tube that could be attached if the motor was turned the other way!

    Right on. Use oil that's the correct viscosity specifically designed for outboard motors and not automotive oil. The dealers and owners manuals emphasize that Best to just use a measuring cup.

    Warming engine before oil change is the norm, dipstick is there for a reason, so is the oil filter, spark plugs and gearbox oil are there for reasons also!

    2 stroke takes mixed oil or if there’s a reservoir, it doesn’t require changeout.. Great video 👍 I’m surprised there’s no oil filter…

    So I think I have this exact same engine but I cannot tell if its a 2019 or 2020. What on the tag tells you the year? Everything on google only shows up to 2006 on how to read it.

    • @DudeLetsFish
      @DudeLetsFish  Před 3 měsíci

      Should be a serial number on the back of your motor near the transom, get that number and call any mercury dealer and they can tell you what year it is

    These engine companies crack me up, they couldn't design it so that you can attach a hose to where the oil drain plug is located.
