What do you do for CO2 in planted aquarium? Also can you make a step by step guide for planted aquarium in low budget? Thanks 👍
I don't think there is much that needs to be done. If running CO2 the canister takes care of the pressure required to power the system. If not, the fish produce the CO2 required. Nice video idea!
Much appreciated ...a detailed video would be awesome....stay safe..
I bought extra filter media, food, and water conditioner a couple of weeks ago to get ready for this. My spec v should be cycled andquite densely planted by the time I can a Betta in there.
Good to hear you are ready!
What's funny about this video is that I never considered the subject & now that I've seen it, it feel way overdue. Top notch quality content here brother!
Thank you! Appreciate you watching!
The battery air pump came in handy so many times.
My fish are so picky when it comes to food and so I've got loads of different food. Never chuck anything.
I bought water conditioner because obviously, I have to change water.
Got some meds (general, ich, etc...)
Plant conditioner also.
I am of an opinion that this nonsense panic will pass quickly but I'm not sure my fish would want to risk anything.
Stay safe!
Sounds like you have what you need!
Thank you. I know that most pet stores are trying to declare themselves as an essential store because we need to feed our pets. However, if something happens we need to make sure we have extra food and filter media on hand. Where I live, they have done something to the water and every time I do a water change I lose a fish or two. I never lost fish before, so it's upsetting.
I'm sorry that's happening. Yes, it seems like pet stores are on the list of "essential retail", which is good!
What water conditioner are ou using? Because I lost a bunch of fish when my city changed got chloramines. I didn't have a water conditioner that neutralized chloramines and ammonia at that time. I switched to Seachem Prime and never had any more issues. Since then other similar conditioners have come out. You want to make sure the one you have neutralizes chlorine, chloramines, and ammonia.
Also, where I live, if there's a big rain storm, they add extra chemicals to the water. So I have to add extra water conditioner for water changes. I also avoid doing water changes for a couple days after a big storm.
Yep, couldn't agree more.
I’m working from home... more feedings (for the fish), more water changes, and more time in front of the tanks. Good advice all around!
Me too!
Thank you for making this video!! I was one of those people who asked for a great video like this.
Glad I was able to do it! Thanks for watching.
stay safe and healthy Prime aquatics

Thank you - you too!
Good advice for worrying times.
Thank you!
A lot of people have live plants, catfish and loaches and thus salt doesn’t seem like a viable product, nor one that is essential in case of an emergency.
The rest of the proposed products are sound and well explained.
In a non planted quarantine tank it is useful I suppose. Catfish and loaches are integral part of the great hobby but depending on the part of the world you live they may form only 2% or a max of 40% of the species commonly kept by Aquarists.
Some parts of the world - including Canada - don't have easy access to aquarium medications, so aquarium salt is a very important thing to have access to, in case of medical issues. Species dependent, of course, always do your research before implementing a treatment regimen.
@@Arachloroptera Even planted tanks - depending on the types of plants you have, I suppose - can handle low levels of salt for short periods of time for treatment purposes.
after a faulty central air pump wiped out my fish room 15 years ago i transitioned to smaller units, now i am slowly moving to usp operated mini air pumps, they are super quiet and efficient and can be hooked to a power bank in a heartbeat if needed . another useful tool is activated carbon, especially if you have small children and they just happen to throw something in one of your tanks. great video as always
Great info Jason!
Wow perfect! Thank you!
I recently started setting up my first tanks in January this year. With everything going on, I am very glad I stocked up on many supplies when buying and initially setting up my tanks while they were cycling!! Fin and body cure, super ich cure, aquarium salt, 4 months of filter replacements, 2 extra flake food canisters, shrimp pellets, and water treatment bottles. I was worried I went overboard initially, but now I'm very glad that I did! I didn't think about thermal blankets in case of power outages however, so I will definitely be looking for 1 or 2 to keep on hand down the road!
Glad you have it all!
As always, these are great ideas. The links are appreciated.
As the nation goes a bit overboard, I must wonder if filter floss could be the next toilet paper shortage.
Enjoy every day,
Jim
Gosh I hope not. : -)
I have most of these supplies but I need to restock my salt. I have 3 battery pumps but I need more now since I have six tanks and probably a 7th because now I have 3-4 cichlids holding for my first time. Or I’m going to get more fake plants and stuff and hope some don’t get eaten. Thanks for a another great video.
Battery powered air pump, power inverter or back up power supply of some kind is what I always run into needing. A must have.
I find the USB ones (Aquarium Co-op sells them) are far more effective in comparison, having compared both. They're great investments in general.
Phew! I've got plenty of all of those items. 😊
The only thing I'm a bit stuck on is the RO water. I only want to produce maybe 20 litres at a times so I'm not sure weather to buy it online or get the smallest, most simple setup I can.
It might be time to start looking at a setup. :-)
@@PrimeTimeAquatics Yes, that would be the simplest solution 😊. I don't have anywhere that's easily accessible to connect it, that's the thing. 🤔
I've got enough left for one water change and top-ups, and if the current lockdown is lifted after a 3 week review then I might be OK. 😊
I bought a bunch of frozen veggies just in case i run out of the normal stuff and bought bulk pond pellets 10# for around $12
Nice idea!
Thanks man awesome video!
Thank you!
Good info!!
Thank you!
Got em all at all times !!
Great advice as always.
I really like Repashy.
Me too!
A good supply of frozen/dried/flake here. So far aquarium stores and the like have not been closed down due to any restrictions Australia as yet. 🤞
You’re allowed to go to the store to buy supplies for your fish even during quarantine at least in the USA.
Yes, they are on the essential list!
Great video....I always wonder what smells are good and what are bad...my sponge filter smells like mud when I clean it....I am assuming the bacteria eating poop and converting in mud smell...
it would be great if you could make a video on it...Thank you 👍🏻👍🏻
Nice idea!
Prime Time Aquatics...Thank you Sir, just a quick question....
I live in Mumbai, India and here it’s summer now..the temp here fluctuates between 76 and 100 degrees daily.....
I wanted to know, does beneficial bacteria die when temperature reaches 100 F....
My Goldfishes are ok when the temp is till 80, but soon turn lethargic in mid noon when the temp reaches 100 degrees F...then again they turn normal in the evening when the temp gets low...
Pls I am worried about my goldfishes....
Thanks for the information Professor
Could you make a video about acclimating new fish?
Too funny - I have that on my list of videos to shoot over the next couple weeks! : -)
Love the videos but frozen food no good when power goes out get solar panels and good battery can run whole fish room and freezer
Flakes and pellets will still easily last a month at room temp. Putting them in the freezer just keeps them at their optimal freshness.
@@PrimeTimeAquatics thank you for all the great info in your videos got first tank a month ago now building whole fish room thank you
Love your videos so informative keep them coming
Thank you! Will do!
What about a generator? Wouldn't that be good vs. buying a bunch of battery operated air pumps?
Depending on the number of tanks - sure.
Lol I thought you were holding up toilet paper for a second
Sign of the times!
Great ideas, especially the water conditioner. Most of us can't do water changes without it. Food of course is an essential for life. All good points. Thanks Jason.
Excellent video. I keep my fish foods in the fridge. I don't have space in my freezer right now. Will the foods still keep better in the fridge rather than room temperature? I have a small container by my tanks for daily feedings.
Absolutely. Reducing the temperature will help even if it's not in the freezer.
@@PrimeTimeAquatics Thanks! That's great to hear. Any idea how long opened fish food lasts in the fridge and freezer?
And also. Feed fish less during outages.
And feed your partner more. Just to be safe :)
Very true!
I had a food emergency last year! I crushed up dry cat food and they fought over it like piranhas
Thanks good tips. Question.....Can fish catch any illness from humans?
I haven't seen anything that would lead me to believe that happens.
Lol I ordered a whole pile of supplies last month just incase.
Cool!
Where did you get that big roll of filter floss?
I go that from Jehmco.com. If you don't need quite that much amazon sells it in smaller quantities.
@@PrimeTimeAquatics Thanks! I had forgotten where I got my large roll, and had run out a few weeks ago. I found a way to not only use them for HOB's, but they also make great sponge filters, with a little elbow grease and ambition.
I saw that you had fritz complete to dechlorinate your tank, but can you also use that to jumpstart your tank?
Not really, for a quick cycle the go-to for us is Fritzyme 7. That has nitrifying bacteria. We have used it in the last 17 tanks we have setup and it has worked every time.
Hi Jason !
I have some questions about ick.
Ick are parasites. Parasites need a host to live and survive. My fish tank has not had an ick outbreak in years. Will my fish tank have an ick outbreak again if I don't put any new fish or new plants in the tank? I heard people said that they had an ick outbreak in their fish tank because the tank temperature dropped. Do ick live in the fish tank all the time?
I have heard that as well, but haven't seen it myself. I have never had a tank get ich unless a new fish was introduced, or a piece of equipment went into an infected tank and then into a non-infected tank.
Thanks for the video! Definitely have stocked up fish supplies, among other things (no I dont have 1000 rolls of tp lol).
I had a quick question about filtration and surface agitation in a 40gb.
Currently running a tetra whisper 40i in the 40gb. It's a fairly new setup, I'm still patiently waiting for bacterial bloom. Is this filter enough for oxygen?
I set up 2 small airstones one at each end...I know its exchanging but is it worth the noise? Lol

1 Pleco...its been very hard to identify what L this pleco is...I could send pic on Instagram??
Thanks again!
Stay safe
I would think so. Maybe send me a short video on Instagram of the setup so I can see the flow? I'm horrible at identifying plecos by L-number. Haha
@@PrimeTimeAquatics Should I send another video? Maybe it was not a good video so you can see the water flow? Thanks
How did you cycle all of your tanks? Did you use bottled bacteria for most of them or what?
Check this out. I think it answers it pretty well. : -)

Prime Time Aquatics thank you!
I have hard water and my fish keep getting ich. Then treating it causes a die off. I have cleaned the tank and replaced substrate and plants.
Have you seen this? czcams.com/video/RESZo6URK4o/video.html
Managed to save some, which is better than the none I am used to. Thanks for the info.
Hi Jason. Our guppies are in full breeding mode. I have been checking the fry and seem to have looked at >75 and they are in the ~4 week range of age. I have not seen any that look to be males? Is this normal or are we doing something wrong? thanks in advance
Often the males start to become more obvious as they age.
You need a huge generator
I recently started treating my tank with general cure. I know it doesn’t say to do a water change between the first and second dose. However, there was a mishap where way too much food ended up in the tank right before the second dose. Is it okay that I did a small water change to gravel vac, before the second dose?
Ya, you can syphon all that out and re-dose as normal. Should be ok.
How many tablespoons of Frtiz salt to use when doing a water change for a 50 gallon tank???
So I only add salt to tanks that don't have plants, corys and/or loaches. If I'm adding salt for maintenance purposes (when doing a water change). I try to keep the maintenance concentration at about 1 tablespoon per 15-20 gallons. Some people do more, but that's what I like to do.
Prime Time Aquatics thanks for the response i will do like 3 or 4 tablespoons during water changes, no plants no Cory's
What if I have filtered water
Depends if the filtered water is hooked up to your tap. If so, stock up on more filter media. If you are buying it - it might be worth having four weeks on hand.
aquaclarity is terrible, i have been trying to order a trio of appistogramma caucatoides triple reds for a month, do you have any other site recommendations, i just want some appistos so bad,
Maybe The Wet Spot?
@@PrimeTimeAquatics ok thanks
