Tag Area of Filled Region in Revit

- In this quick tip for Revit I will demonstrate how to create filled region tag, that displays the area of the filled region. There is no default tag for this purpose, so I show how to create one form scratch. The same tag will can be used to annotate the area of masking region. Because the default Detail Item Tag doesn’t enable you to create area label, there is trick how to do this.
Revit is a Building Information Modelling (BIM) software.
The video was created with the help of this free open source software:

OMG you are brilliant!!!! I've always hated that Revit doesn't let you tag areas of filled regions, especially for energy code compliance elevations. This workaround is genius, THANK YOU!
I am glad it was helpful. I didn't know about this use case.
I´ve been struggling for this for a very long time, glad you share with us, thank you very much, greetings from Guatemala
I am happy to hear the tutorial helped you.
Awesome! Needed that for a long time and couldn't figure it out. Now I'm going to try to figure out how to make one that shows opaque and transparent areas of walls for energy calc.
Oh dear! This is brilliant and simple:) Thank you.
Wonerfull! Thank you very much!
No problem!
Thanks for that area tag trick. It works. You are a genius.
I am glad that the tip is helpful.
BRILLIANT!!
Muchas gracias!!! Es justo lo que buscaba. TY
This is absolutely genius! 🤓
Wouw, thanks!
Thanks, dude this is awesome. I wish we could get this to show in a schedule.
Yeah, even tagging filled regions is "not the proper BIM way", so placing it to schedule is not currently possible.
@@BIMforInteriorDesign I found a workaround here czcams.com/video/TzMctyqEb-U/video.html&ab_channel=AhmedMostafa
THNX just what I was looking for! 😀
I am glad you found it.
very helpful thanks!
Glad it helped!
so helpful. Thank you!
THANK YOU!!!!!
Brilliant! Thank you very much!
Glad it was helpful!
thank you! genius.
Thank you, I am glad the video helped you.
is there room tag that can spell out width and length too? @@BIMforInteriorDesign
Thanks man great ✌🏻✌🏻
You are brilliant 👏👏👏👏👏👏❤ 😀
Thank you for the kind comment. 🙂
Thank you so much!
I am glad it's helpful.
you are legend!!
Yes, I think I am. :)
Awesome stuff! Thank you for posting. Quick follow up question, since we're tricking the system, do you have any suggestions on how to populate a schedule based on this tag?
I am not aware of a way to do that. I think you would need to schedule filled regions, which is not possible. There might be some trick to do that, I just do not know about any.
Saved my day! Is it possible to delete the comma in the area? So it will be a whole number instead?
That is a good question. You can find the answer in this thread:
forums.autodesk.com/t5/revit-architecture-forum/always-round-down-an-area-in-a-tag/td-p/6815912
ps. is there a way to get the data (m2) into a schedule?, for there is no option to schedule detail items or filled regions. I just wonder. thnx.
I do not know about a way how to get the area to the schedule. That is a problem with this workaround - Revit by default does not put annotation objects to schedules.
How come your Revit look neat and clean ( like Archicad ).. Normally Revit look ugly coz of thick line drawing. Is it because of your screen resolution or Revit setting?
It is definetely not screen resolution - I am using 1920x1080. It might be that this project is simple, so doesn't look overwhelming. There are other setting that might make your viewport more pleasant like turning on anti-aliasing and other settings. I might do a tutorial on setting up nice viewport.
@@BIMforInteriorDesign Thank you mate. At least ive learn something new. Highly appreciate. Subs.
Hi! i recently saw this video and was very usefull to me, so it generates a few inquiries, for more advance posibilities, do you know if there is a way that i cant calculate in a tag over a filled region the difference percentage between two filled regions?
As you cannot schedule area of regions, I doubt there is a way to use these numbers in calculations. There might be a way, Revit us full of surprises, but I don't know of any.
@@BIMforInteriorDesign Thanks for your response, maybe in another kind of way is the answer, i will keep searching, thanks!
Thanks. I wonder if it still works in 2023.
Yes it works in Revit 2023 no problem.
Is it also possible to schedule area of a filled region ?
Not to my knowledge. But there might be a way to achieve this.
That is mad.
Yes, it is!
how can this software be industry standard... poor us! 😭
