Great review and walkthough. I've seen two of these drop-in drums now and they're an excellent idea. For me, low maintenance was the deciding factor and the reason I chose a drum filter. Mine has been running all summer and I've not had to clean it once. In one of Adam Julian's videos, he shows the difference an in-drum UV makes. The UV inside the drum makes all the difference fro me, certainly. If I was doing it all over again, I would look closely at the Draco Magna Combi Drum. My Burtons BD-300 Combi is excellent and their support is outstanding. But the bio capcity is only 100L. The draco drum is 250L which of course matters when moderately stocked.

I looked at the draco Medius, looks a great bit of kit! They also have the magma which is huuuuge!!!
Regarding the bit about flushing/purging yr B/D line Iv removed that bit/plate off the nexus above the inlet and I’m able to rod the drain line 👍🏻 Argon gas line hose used with a drain brush attached (solidly 😅)
Not sure if yr pipework allows you to do this but just a thought 👍🏻

When I've spoken about draco drum to a few people they have said they're a good system if you're on a budget... But I disagree. I'd honestly say they're a good system full stop. I think they're well designed, well built, and I don't see any reason to spend double the money to get a "big" brand drum. Also UK based and nice to deal with!
Great point 👍🏼 I was guilty before buying of labelling the drop in’s as a middle ground. Having owned one, this is not the case. Providing it stays reliable, you get a good drum and great bio. 👍🏼
Hi Dave, nice video, the drop in looks good and what a difference in your water, good tutorial, I do like the draco look, loving the filter shed, proper had enough of my multibay and rabbit hutch filter house lol, for the files do what Vince has done and put a fly killing light up. Loving the videos.

Not to put a downer on the subject but are you not the guy who was saying them Tridents were the best thing since sliced bread for dealing with fines. Now you've turned to the darkside & bought a drum lol

I brought the trident based on the last review in July, wish I didn’t bother now and jumped straight to this.
Honestly, not a downer at all. Glad someone asked. The trident is still a great bit of kit as is the duct tape back. My reason for going with the drum is that I’m now in a new job that keeps me away from home more so cleaning of the nexus has become hard. The trident is in my mates pond and doing a great job still. Great review and I’ve been contemplating/holding back buying one for my Multibay for some time but the longer I leave it the more the I’m compelled on needing 1 😅 Also the New upgraded version can only be a Brucey Bonus

Looking good...... Re cleaning the bottom drain pipe. If you own a jet wash, just buy one of the "drain" attachments. Been cleaning mine for a couple of years with one and not had any issues

Moving the motor outside is a no brainer. My oase drum has the motor inside and after six years it packed up through water ingress, a replacement was the best part of £500 I was lucky I found the actual motor they use for about £70 online and with a lot of faff I fitted it in the casing. I wouldn’t buy a drum with the motor inside again. Also I would check the price and availability of spare parts before I bought another one.
I’m hearing a lot of negatives for the Oase drums of late. Mainly around parts costs and motors. My dealer has a bucket with 7 customer motors that have gone wrong. ☹️☹️
Good video. Glad it's working for you. So you have planned for a combi, i have thought about that for mine but i feel the bio chanbers are not big enough, but most importantly, if something gies wrong with the drum, that both the drum and bio chamber out of action.
I have to confess, the longer this draco/nexus is running I’m not convinced I need to do anything else. Have you thought about what filter you’ll go with?
@@edenkoipond that's the thing, you have a bigger bio now that if you had a combi, unless you buy the massive ones. Draco has improved.
For me, it will be a stand alone drum with bio chambers, one moving bed, one jap mat after that.
Looks a good improvement compared to the original easy filter. I have the draco medius combi on my pond, been faultless in the 18 months ive had it. To purge my drain i just close the inlet valve to the drum and let it pump the water out of the bio section. Then open up again and the settled crap comes flooding out. Dont know if thats possible with the nexus, just an idea for you to investigate 👍
Ii can remove the inlet so the water floods in but it’s a bit of a pain. I reckon chucking the hose/jet wash down it will be ok. Thanks for watching 👍🏼

Great question (I should’ve mentioned it in the video 🤦🏼♂️) The way I’ve got it set up, it’s using around half a litre of water. With my durations between cleans, this is around half a litre every 4 minutes. The good thing, as you get overspray which tops the pond up, I’ve been able to add an overflow so this forms part of my weekly water changes 👍🏼
@@edenkoipond I was told about 1L per wash so around 50L a day I did notice the one for the 320 has 1 extra spray nozzle compared to the one for the 220 nexus
I only run my water blade in the summer and switch it off at 11pm at the latest on a timer. But you couldn't really do that with a shower, as it's part of your ecosystem. When you say complaints about the noise from the shower, was that from neighbours?
