The beauty of a drum is that the crap is expelled at least once an hour, as opposed to any other filter where the rubbish is sitting in the filters for who knows how long until they're cleaned therefore has to be better for water parameters, namely tds and phosphates which I'm sure a lot of people don't test for, but are mportant water parameter in my opinion.
I hear people slate drums, saying to many parts to go wrong, I think that is just sour grapes, my synergy has been running faultlessly since Sept 2017, and still on original screen, a quick jet wash or paint on white vinegar every 3 months or so is all that's needed.
Have fun with your drum Steve, best thing I done to the pond, that and ashp, YOU WILL SUCCUMB and get one.

I finally got time to watch this anticipated review of your drum unit, I really appreciated it Steve as it was an interesting and informative review, it would make my life easier over the two pressure filters I have that don't take out the finer particles, so at 75microns and seeing your beautiful clear pond this is a solution for me ,thanks for this video mate .

I've wanted a drum for a year or 2. The cost has been the only reason that has put me off. Having said that, as you suggested the DIY filter system I put together does work for me, but with a caveat. The first stage comprises a vortex that has Japanese matting to catch some of the fines as well as the larger particles. Unfortunately, this requires cleaning at least once if not twice a week with a pressure washer. Although it only takes 5 minutes, the problem is that the muck and gunge has already been building up for a few days. In that time bad bacteria grows and in all probability gets into the pond and has the potential to infect the fish. So for me at least, its not about making my life easier (which I would like anyway :O) I would like one to help to keep the fish healthy. Great video by the way. Keep em coming!!

Hi Steve, aka Slippers, thanks for doing this video, I'm sold, doing three different shift patterns I'm struggling with cleaning my multi bay filter more than twice a week in the summer, I've added a tempest to my wall skimmer and got rid of the small compact filter which I believe was harboring nasties, as I was stripping that three times a year, what a pain, I think this type of filter is what I need, I have been of for a while lol recovering from an op on my arm, I've added a water system to the filter house at last and being of, back soon oh nooooo, I've had time to clean the multi bay more and improving my system, so as I've told everyone on this earth, even those that are not into koi, I'm gonna get one soon lol, now do the three censor prongs look after thereselves once water level is achieved if that makes sense. Cheers Steve great video.

I know you said you had made up your mind on placing the UV light on the "dirty" side of the filter, but ,,, I'd urge you to reconsider. A UV should absolutely and positively be placed behind all other filtration near the output of the filter. The issue is one of the ability of the light rays to penetrate the water to intercept microbes and not get absorbed in suspended dirt. UV effectiveness is easily affected in that way and that is why you have to periodically wipe off the glass housing and keep water as clear as possible. Good luck.

    • @CATANDEYEKOI

Also yr QK 15 must clean alot being 75 micron but seen it being automated saves all that manual hard work, which I'm sudject to😂?
