    Hi mate, a really good informative video. the pond covers will help stop sudden temperature drops. Keep up the good work mate, Terry.

    Sounds good, I've been putting two bakki showers on my pond wall this weekend, running a retro bottom drain to them, I have a fixed bottom drain but I don't want a pump in the pond so have sat it on pond wall, lol, I've run out of pipe dough, cant run the bakki showers from my multi bay flter, no room, that's how its gonna stay till I get a drum,

    Hi Steve
    Don't waste your time and money raising easy pods, I think once you see you modified pond, you'll realise drum and bio chamber is way to go, please keep shower even if it's outside behind greenhouse out of sight or disguised in some way, you can bypass it in the winter, if you have decent ceramic media in it, it grows different strain of bacteria that plastic media won't support, most professional ponds these days are running showers, i run a synergy 35 combi drum and it's brilliant, it's totally automatic including water top up, but I wouldn't be without my shower.
    Looking forward to yours and Cat's progress either the modifications.

    I got the DVS CL65 (QK65) extended two chambers after drum are both 500 litres the first one I have as a moving bed with 200 litres helix in the second one I have 9 x 1 m2 Japanese mats which start up way quicker than helix, so far I’m in impressed.... I forgot to add a 80 wat uv which is fitted inside the drum to help cut down the biofilm

  • @Simonsimps
    @Simonsimps Před 3 lety +1

    You could make it so the shower is lifted up and pumped from the drum and returns into your bio chamber. Saves wasting it and will be excellent addition bio filtration as you already have it. Just an idea. You can have more flow now also as you not limited by the pods so would be even better. Thanks for the update. Cheers.
    Edit* just remembered you don't want anything above window level, scratch that lol sorry.

    I didn't see that coming 😏 (I think we all knew you were going to end up with drum, mainly due to the excellent water quality and convenience)
    I did however think you would be building one instead of buying but I bought mine so why shouldn't you.

    If you definitely go down the drum filter set up Route and you want to sell one of your easy pods I would be very interested in one! Only live five minutes away from quinni koi in Loughborough so I could always meet you there when ever you get some more koi for your new pond

    Steve , could you not build an extension to the greenhouse, so the shower is still utilised but out side of the greenhouse ? Be brick/block or wooden construction? Cheers for the videos they keep me in touch with the hobby whilst my koi are on holiday . Cheers Rob .

    Have you thought about building you own drum? There is a guy called Wrighty on CZcams who has plans on how to build your own for around £700. Corona prices may vary. Lol. I’ve bought the plans as I’m hoping to get started ready for next year and they are very in depth and well written. Just think it would be great content for the channel! Anyway great update and looking forward to the new pond!

  • @patricksheringham5965

    Drum filter / bio is defo the way to go but it's going to add approx £2000 to the update costs. I have looked at this new Queni Koi drum (but only online!} and it looks fab BUT the thing I noted was the 120 micron screen, most of the other drums seem to have around 60 - 80 micron screens so it probably wouldn't remove the smallest "fines" but it would be worth checking with someone with more knowledge than me!!!!!!!!!

    • @CATANDEYEKOI
      @CATANDEYEKOI  Před 3 lety

      I think the 120 replacement is to make the overall cost cheaper. It definitely a competitive price.

    If you’re raising pond level 600mm your drum will also follow? What do you think 🤔

  • @stephenrhoden1401
    @stephenrhoden1401 Před 3 lety +2

    Hi. I have looked at the QK25 myself. The drum screen is only 120 micron where nearly all other RDF’s have 70. Aren’t you concerned that it will not filter the finer fines?

    • @CATANDEYEKOI
      @CATANDEYEKOI  Před 3 lety

      Yeah we asked why and of course there is a cost element changing from 70 to 120. I have also heard despite the fact that drums are a quality product, fines can still be a problem even on 70 screens. I'll cross that bridge if I come to it. Cheers.
