  • Should we really be beating our selves up over techniques all the time- when actually there are many other areas we can focus on to help and develop our skills.
Use this simple (and very recognised) coaching structure on yourself, or if your teaching then explain and use it with you students.
T.T.P.P.E.E is used IN REVERSE to ensure we are giving ourselves the best possible chance of success- or a possibly a good excuse when things don't quite do to plan!

Hey Cookie, GREAT series of videos. Thats exactly what I‘m telling my sons every time: Smaller sail, larger board means less stress and more fun. Go on with this. Best windsurf tutorials on the internet.

It is very easy to get discouraged learning this sport. It is the absolute hardest sport I have ever come across and every session is a rollercoaster of optimism, frustration and sprinkles of joy. Some days it does feel like it is too hard to master and want to give up but for some reason am back at it, trying to get good.

It's so good to hear that being terrified in 30+ knots wind is actually common in beginners / intermediates. I was experiencing this on Gran Canaria some weeks ago. Now, home on a German lake with 20 knots, no sharks, no deep water and lots of people around, I felt so much more secure and could enjoy it for the first time :)

Yes please to watching a clinic. I find it very useful to watch someone and try and work out myself what they are doing wrong, then to find out if I was correct or not.

Great advice. Absolutely no point in doing it if you are not enjoying it. Sometimes the enjoyment can come from pushing your luck and being terrified.

Truly, great video! I feel that all of these points can be applied to life in general.

Another great video that I can relate to. Trying to improve my technique whilst not comfortable with the conditions does not make for an enjoyable or productive session. The new camera views work really well!

Good advice. Have to keep it in mind since I've been pushing myself hard on learning a race foil and it gets quite exciting when the wind gets high.

Hi Simon, great video and tips. I have recently started to work on my power jibes but since I cannot windsurf consistently sometimes I still struggle with catapults and waterstarts and find hard to relax, especially in choppy conditions. The EEPPTT is a great pattern to keep in mind :)

My windsurfing reminds me of that line from an old Talking Heads song,…. “I’m tense and nervous, I can’t relax”. More great pointers, thank you.

Some real wisdom here. I've a very forgiving 6.0 freeride sail, and when it's howling and everybody is on a 4.0 or 4.5 I used to be too scared to go with that sail instead. I went for a jerky wave sail, which does not go well with my freeride board. But if everybody on the beach keeps telling you that going out with this sail is madness, you believe it. It was only when on one day it was much windier than I expected and the 6.0 was the smallest sail I had packed. Just because of that, I realized that I tend to be more comfortable with a bigger sail than the others on the beach. You'll just have to find out what you are comfortable with.

Great vids! I'm learning now and your ride along sessions are full of tips and details one doesn't find on their own. At last the wind is picking up this weekend in Athens and I can practice with a little more power. Keep it up!

Super video as always. I always try and get myself comfortable and in the zone before starting any new techniques. Regarding looking up wind for the conditions that is something I always struggle with; not really sure what I’m looking for because you can’t actually see a gust or a lull.
