    I’m a frequent flyer at Expert Island, purchased this Ev-15p for my studio, the staff (dog included) make for a nice atmosphere, the speaker has served me well and wished I’d have purchased a pair or them, I’ve purchased a boatload of cables and lighting applications, you have to go and check this place out, sorry I can’t shop there any longer because I’ve moved to another province, love to visit again one day. 🍻

    had these for 6 months for personal/amateur use, they are easy setup with the dsp, and play loud and clear, as always if you want low end bass for djing you need a sub, im pairing these with the ev ekx 18", however if you spend countless hours thinking which brand is best, i dont think you wont be dissapointed with EV, JBL, MACKIE and QSC, and as always, more expensive models are better. as for size the 12" will do any job almost as good as the 15" but they are huge, 10" (in ekx) and other 10" are again too small and lack lowend, if i would buy again i would go for 12" and might go to ekx or mackie srm550 due to easy setup

      I agree. The only thing though. I purchased a pair of Mackie 15's and it wasn't enough power for me personally. Then I got rid of them and went for 12inch ev's. Those were a bit better, but not good enough. I have a Ev 18inch subwoofer and even that keeps limiting. But im starting to realize that anyone that's looking for that club type of bass outdoor/indoors they going to need some Qsc's and a more expensive subwoofer, at least a pair of them.

    I never see the point of playing music from a speaker as a supposed test. You need to eq the sound as a viewer anyway to make it sound nice at our end. Plus if it's listened to on a phone speaker it's a useless representation of the speaker cabinet. Plus everyone knows how good EV are.

Can I leave it there and set INPUT GAIN to infinity, plug my device and control the volume by INPUT GAIN knob? Or should I set INPUT GAIN to 0dB, MASTER VOL to mute and control the overall volume with MASTER knob?

    A friend of mine bought these speakers. One was burned in one of the first events that were used, and the company sent for repair.
    When using these speakers, about half of the power, the amplifier (the back of the speaker) is very hot and impossible to touch, indicating that these speakers will not last long, because the components will be destroyed from the heat, indicating a very poor design!

      @ShimonKupferman Před rokem +1

      @Billy Lydon
      hello to you!
      What would I answer myself to your question:
      Or buy another speaker, or replace the internal electronics with something of higher quality and more real.
      This company is rightly perceived as clearly untrustworthy!
      My motto for myself is to always test things to see if they do meet their manufacturer's statements, and if not - to keep them away from me and not rely on them anymore.
      Obviously, this situation is very disappointing, but unfortunately, this is how it is today in our world: most of the giant companies invest in false marketing, in order to obscure and hide their poor merchandise.
      Before I buy anything, I do an extensive search for videos and real reviews from engineers or repairmen, in order to get an indication of whether or not the purchase is worthwhile for me.
      In this context, the thing that encourages me is the move towards open source. In this way, you can know exactly what you are getting, and sometimes you can also improve and fix what is missing on your own.
      I rarely purchase ready-made commercial products, precisely for this reason, and I design and build myself what I can. I can't produce everything by myself, of course, but I definitely manage to take care of and revive old devices (mostly electro-mechanical stuff), instead of throwing them away and buying new ones of low quality.
      As of the moment of writing the response, I do not have my own speakers, and I cannot give any recommendation based on personal experience, but I can point out that I have an elderly friend (close to 80 years old!) who still operates amplification at events himself (he does public singing performances for an elderly audience) and he uses speakers from the model B112MP3 of BEHRINGER brand.
      I don't blindly recommend this brand, but I found the speakers to have a pleasant sound, and he have been using them for several years, almost on a daily basis.
      Is this enough to give them a recommendation? In my opinion no. But for myself, I would be satisfied and buy such speakers.
      In the past I thought of providing amplification services, but in the end I dropped it for all kinds of reasons that made it difficult for me.
      To my friend who was interested in the past, I suggested buying everything at least twice, so that if something goes wrong - it will be possible to immediately start from a backup.
      I wish you success!

    Hey, first of all thank you for the amazing videos and all your help. I wanted to ask for your opinion on what speakers to purchase. We're a church band that needs a portable system because we perform at different venues (Churches,Gyms or large meeting rooms) we have 3 vocalists, 3 keyboards, electronic drums,guitar and bass. So with that in mind what size and brand speakers would you recommend? We currently have unpowered speakers and power amps which isn't really convenient to travel with. If you can also recomend a mixer that would be awesome. Thanks again.

    • @Mr.J2U
      @Mr.J2U Před 4 lety

      Yes, SPL (sound pressure level) measures the maximum loudness (in decibels aka dB) at a fixed distance from the speaker. This will give you a sense of the overall amount of loudness of the speaker. However, keep in mind that SPL will not give you any sense of sound quality or distortion at maximum SPL.

      Also the reading is typically done at 1khz, that just happens to be the loudest most sensitive to your ears..it is also not an indicator of bass output..look at response? 50-18 + or - 10db, so if your output at 100 hz is down 10db from rated 127 hz that’s pretty significant considering that’s lowering the volume by 3 times to 117...

      www.altoproaudio.com/products/ts315 Read the Specs on the Alto. Look closely at the SPL, Weight and Frequency Response. Total Watts are not that important. SPL is the MOST useful information on Speakers followed by Horn Coverage then Weight/Size for a Portable DJ. Not enough Low end/Bass on ANY 2-way speaker for R&B/Hip Hop. You would need at least a pair of 12"-15" Subwoofers or a really good 18".

    Why do you say in one of the comments that the JBL is better. Is it sound or is it durability? I just bought two of the 12s from EV but I listened to them both and thought the EV sounded slightly better and louder at a lower input. But that’s by no means the only way to rate a speaker. So Wonder if I show our return my EV 12s for JBL eon 12s?

    Thank you for such a great education about the EX ZLX 15P speakers. I have a question, can you use a Marantz NR1607 receiver with a pair of EV 12 inch Speakers. The only thing I have there is a EV 18 inch powered sub, a 65 inch Samsung TV, a DVD player and a cable box. I am getting this loud zzzzz sound in the speakers. WHY? the unit was plugged in by a professional. I have been told since the EV speakers are powered and the receiver is also sending power and that could be the cause. Please help. • @expertisland
      @expertisland  Před 5 lety +2

      you will need this cable amzn.to/2TnCBsJ and plug it into the back of the Marantz where it says pre-out connect to the red/white just above of the 2 black rca plugs. this should help with the buzzing sound. let me know how it goes.

    How is the bass ?

    • @Mocredible
      @Mocredible Před 5 lety +3

      The bass is ehh.. Alright I guess. I mean if your indoors it will do the job. I just purchased these the other week. I started off with the15'inch Mackie thumps. It was not enough power and it was smelling like the speaker was taking a beating. I Dj with Hiphop music and was looking for some good bass with some nice highs. The Mackie 15's weren't for me and I wouldn't really recommend those. Then I purchased Ev's 12inch. Still not satisfied. It was better, but not good enough. Now I purchased these Ev 15's. Much better, I must say. Butttt... Again.. When you crank them up too much it will start to go into limit mode, which is annoying. Not mention, I have a 18inch Ev subwoofer and its still not enough for the kind of bass im looking for. And because that goes into limit mode also. But for the average person who's just trying to do a very small party indoors. Ev 15's will do. You still should use a subwoofer with them though. The best advice I can give to someone who's looking to rock a hiphop party or outdoor back yard event. I would say you really have to invest some hard earned money into a better speaker like the 15'inch QSC'S. Im still contemplating on how im going to purchase these. Because their super expensive and out of my budget. $1499 just for one! But it cranks out 1000 watts continuously and that's what im talking about! Power! But again, these are ok for now. Better then Mackie thumps and Ev 12inchs.

      @@ikkangoochelen you won't get any clipping, I've used these for 2 years and not had a limit light. It's great speakers for pop and punk band. "Louder" doesn't mean anything. EV - 126dB vs Alto - 134dB. You decide which Sounds better for you. You need to listen to both Live. Both Speakers will provide about 250-300 Watts Max-Long Term. If you can, Rent them Both and use them on a Gig. Listen for yourself, Real World. It won't be a waste of money. CZcams and Retail Setups are best for Research, not the place to "Pick" or "Listen" to a Speaker.
