I have (2) sets of the EV EKX 15's. Love them. The area coverage is phenomenal for large events.

Just bought a pair last week. I used them 2x so far and I’m not disappointed. Coming from the ZLX it was a big leap as far as the sound. I am currently using them with the ETX 18 subs. Great video

Bought a pair little over 2 years ago. They are my main DJ speaker. Used them outside. Pushed them to the limit and still sounded impressive. They will not disappoint any DJ's. They are even overkill for post Covid events. Was thinking Evolve 50 next. You're right about the highs. They are very pronounced. Little EQ goes a long way.. Thanks Brandon

I love home cinema but I also like to provide sound for friends' parties. So, I bought 5 ETX35p's and 2 ETX18sp's for surround sound at home, and their dual purpose is to use them at parties too. I've only used them for 2 parties and they were way overkill, especially for the crowd of people. I got the 3 way boxes for better mid range sound for home cinema. They sound incredible, but they are definitely built to be used hard. They have a faint white noise sound which sucks for silent parts in movies, but when there is sound coming out it's no problem.
I agree with kevin Mitchell, if I had ZLX's, I would use them for parties because transporting and lifting such massive speakers gets old pretty quickly.
But for paid gigs, and if I had someone to help me carry them, these speakers are amazing. Congratulations on your purchase! They are awesome speakers, very versatile, sound wonderful and are very loud. Built to last.
In my opinion, they are the best choice of speaker *at their price point*. Or even in the ball park of their price. I think you would need to spend almost twice as much per box to get a better speaker, and even then you are looking at getting either a line array or passive pro speakers. Line array requires several people, licences and gear to fly them. Passive pro speakers require amps, like a DBX drive rack to handle the crossover, more expensive cables, more power to drive them, like 3 phase.
EV ETX is the best you can get before jumping up to serious gear with serious drawbacks and requirements to use and double the cost plus extra gear to run them.
    Enjoy your top-of-it's-class speakers!

I know this is an old review, but my boss just ordered these to replace our JBL EON 615 tops for our venue. We do a lot of live bands and such, and the JBL's were barely adequate for live performances when we would have punk/metal bands playing. Vocals is the main issue, and I think the extra oomph and high-end definition I have heard from the ZLX 15's (and from what I heard this carries over into the EKX series as well) should clean up the vocals and give me head-room to push them harder when I need to.
I like the fact there is an adjustable crossover since our venue is using a Behringer X32, I can match the sub crossover to the tops without issue and play around with the frequency and see what sounds better in the room. Can't wait for these to show up and begin tuning them for our event room!

Years later, testing small EV Everse8 & sub ELX200-12SP, I did the same experience. Built in crossover and setting oportunities are good, no problem, but analysis and tuning with dbx PA2 parametric EQ is even better, especialy in spaces with poor acoustic.

I use EKX 15p tops also, lovely speakers. They are way more "big & louder" sounding, compare to ZLX 15p which I have also. EKX input signal limit is from another galaxy. Output power as well, it is possible to push they realy hard, so be prepared on it. (If directly compared, ZLX looks like good and clarity sounding sidefills or midsize stage monitors, while EKX are still portable midsize venue PA main speakers.)
As for subs... depends on your needs and expectations, on kind of music you play through them. If you consider your subs are ok till now, with EKX tops overal sound performance will be even better.
But... big gigs with couple hundreds of people are calling for something else - in subs. With 2 pcs of EKX 15p I can imagine something like a 4 pcs EKX subs or dreamly 2 pcs of powerful (and realy expensive) ETX subs, to balance power of EKX tops.
However, cooperation between EKX 15p and ELX200 subs will be smooth and seamles, using DSP built in crossover and it's dedicated factory setting.

So I'm running the ekx-18 sub with the ekx 15 pole mount. Using the DSP, do I assign the top to match the sub, sub to match the top or assign both to match each other? Signal coming in from the board is going to the sub first. Thanks for any help.

    Hi Brandon,
Quick question, do you put these speakers on the stands by yourself or do you need help to do so? I have been reading reviews about these speakers and I am really interested. I work by myself that's where the concerned about the weight. Thank you in advance.
    Best regards,
    Carlos

I know he has not replied and hope this review finds you. These speakers a a bit bulky and weight 24kgs. Depends on the person I guess but I'm 5ft 4inches and not a bulky guy, I try to keep fit though. I am able to lift them up myself above my head to put them on stands. I do prefer lighter speakers but theres something about this speaker and my heavier jbl that I love more than my plastic box speakers. If you're lifting them often, they'll become much lighter. I don't mind the weight since they sound amazing. You would appreciate some help though.

where you at with the EQ on the speakers? I also noticed distortion on the high frequencies at high volumes or just too shrill and piercing on the high frequencies ... are you still using the -2db on the highs? I'm gonna try that, I have them at 0db in club mode and always put them on the floor but not sure which setting I'm using, I think tripod i have the same ekx 15ps

    • @mra7860
      @mra7860 Před rokem +2

Hi. I'll be honest with you. I use this speaker for events. I keep it at 0db and crank the mixer up as well as line level button is kept at 0db or problem most at 2 o clock.
I love to keep it at +2db however I find that I have to turn it down on the mixer coz it gets quite loud for the events I do. You can crank the master on the speaker to +10db, it will be fine. The amp is designed to be used on that setting also. However you should not go into club mode, rather music or live will do fine as this will help the amp to have some gas in reserve.
