Why is the family back in the ghetto? JJ was an artist, Micheal was going to be a lawyer and Thelma's husband was playing professional football again. He even bought a duplex with a hot tub for himself and Thelma. The family moved out of the hood in the last episode. Why would their children be back in the projects?

If i recall correctly, I'm pretty sure Esther Rolle and John Amos (the parents on the show) were 2 of the ppl that fought hard for the original not to become a caricature stereotypical type of black sitcom (also why they both hated the JJ character). Based on the trailer This adaptation is basically exactly what they fought hard against. I know Esther is rolling in her grave right now (not trynna be funny with the pun)

I don't watch any of the new Power shows but I did watch the first one. I think people view it differently because it's a live action gritty crime drama. Good Times is supposed to be funny. Nothing in this trailer is amusing.

So Bebe's Kids rebooted not Good Times. I'm saddened by the VAs that signed off on this.
Looks like a bad combo of Bebe Kids, Family Guy and Boondocks.
In fact it looks like a Boondocks episode in which they parodied the entertainment industry.
First mistake was calling it "good times". The original Good times show had its issues. Like Florida getting mad at Michael about the Jesus picture. But it was a two parent household. Which Esther Rolle had to fight to have a husband on the show. Bur the father was hard working man. The mother was wise and so strong and was an exceptional example if a wife and mother. Thelma and Michael were very intelligent and JJ was an amazing artist. That family fought through hard times. To think that they, the children wouldn't have made it outta the projects is ridiculous.
Second. Its looks like a mash up of black stereotypes that someone threw together. But with so many non Black American/FBA writers, producers in it im not surprised.
Its a hard no for me.

There are a few things in the trailer that allude to the original show. The eldest son clearly is supposed to be like JJ, and there was even an episode in the original series where he intended to paint a nude woman altho she was overall convinced to wear a bikini. The daughter is more or less a mix of Thelma and Michael since Michael on the original was an activist.

I singularly blame Seth McFarlane for this. Its even set up like Family Guy. Norman Lear is gone.and Steph really just lent his name to it because they HAD to have somebody black involved to support it.

A great many of us act like fools, ingrates, and idiots in our personal and professional lives, and few have risen above it. I don't mind the show as art imitates life. It's a mirror effect. Looking at the mirror, we see how others see us and our antics. It would be different if the show was lying about it, but we see it all over social media. We just hate it when anyone calls us out on our bad behavior.
@@angry-blackguy We know that the mess taking place imitates real life. This will be the same case as the Boondocks. Also, this is a lot of huff and puff, but it will appeal to many and maybe make a few people reflect.
The original show shined a light on a subset of the black community and exaggerated their plight. It was humorous, revealing, educational and influential. Out of all the bafoonery, it was cool to be “dynamite!” Remember that….most black people got the joke and were thoroughly entertained and fell in love with all the characters and hated it when the patriarch was killed off. Fast forward from the 70s to 2024 and the light now shines on a new generation and subset of the black community and oh hell, god damn you hate what you see. You hate what you’ve become. Women aren’t classy ratchet like Winona, Florida and Thelma. Oh no…today you can’t really exaggerate the real-life bafoonery in cartoon form because it’s way to close to reality and MF can’t stand it…lol. This new Good Times is who you are and it’s painful to see smh. Don’t believe me? Example: BLM protest and burn down there own communities because the evil white cops kill all the young black saints but have nothing to say, nor protest give when the facts show that there’s waaaay more death in the black community from black on black crime. Where’s the outrage in support of human life? There is none and the organization is proved to be a scam but pro-blacks stand in huge support of BLM lol. That’s bafoonery X10 and if you made a cartoon episode about it, it would be absurd but it’s real life smh. I can’t wait to watch this show. I’m going to say this, whether people like me whether they cancel me whoever and higher power when you have made a great,phenomenal,classic body of work that will be left for centuries, the other side that never supported, you never believed in you never thought that you could accomplish it And just wanted to keep their 👣foots👣on your neck they have to find a way to shame you they have to find a way of humiliating.
