      Same is true in Ireland. The lopsided draw is generally great since we have more tounament-critical matchups. But I would have loved for Scottish rugby to reap their honours in more visable circumstances. Greagor makes great points about developing for the future. Sadly a different draw would have spured that development on purely through profile. Untill the six nations Scotland.

      Unfortunately the Scots have fallen of a cliff in rugby terms . They had no idea how to distrupt the Irish maul or regain possession , and had no idea of how to break the defence . No chip kicks , infact no kicking game whatsoever. Just tried to batter their way through.

      @davidkelly499 Před 7 měsíci

      No there isnt. Townsend has wasted probably our best ever group of players. Thats two world cup group stages exits. The highest weve ever finished in the 6 nations is 3rd.
      We went in with plan A of 'give it to Russell and hope for the best', Ireland and South Africa pressed him and we folded, badly. We had nothing after that. If we had competed and noy gone through then you can live with that, but we were dismantled. Men against boys stuff in those games.
      As others have said, out under 20s are shocking and there only so many South Africans we can play. This was the peak of the mountain for us, within 3/4 years we'll be back to scrapping away with Italy for the wooden spoon.

Ireland are excellent at the moment and there is absolutely no point getting pitchforks out for losing to the number1 team in the world. The group of death was well named - having the number 1 and 2 teams in the world rankings in a group where only two progress was ridiculous for the 5th ranked team to have to contend with. Not sure what world rugby need to do to stop this happening but its not good enough. Its like having Brazil Argentina Germany and Italy in the same group in the football world cup. Wouldn't happen.

    This group of Scotland players are excellent. We all learn the difference between being 5th and number one team in the world. The difference to me, is Ireland executed a number of moves to open up Scotland's defence, that came from the training field. FIRST, the opposite winger running the way across the field to give Ireland the extra man for the overlap. I think this happened for two or three tries. May be defensively Scotland's opposite winger needed to track him, as he wasn't picked up by anyone. This was executed at high speed. Well Done Andy Farrell and Ireland.
    SECOND they had manoeuvres near Scotland line the forwards executed to create more players together to attack Scotland's line. One of these was thwarted by the ball hitting the referee.
    A good lessen for Scotland to take forward. I do believe in Gregor and his coaching team can continue to progress Scotland. I do believe Finn Russell and his fellow age group players will continue to evolve. Our next chance to their progress will be the 6 nations.,

    I think Gregor Townsend is an absolute ace coach, he’s determined, he wants progress all the time, stands by the players. And Scotland have played big teams and beat them previously. I just think there’s a few areas of where Scotland could improve on but they should be proud of theme selves of how far they have come.
    Look at some of the pacific island teams especially Fiji - in world cups before you would have written them off but look at them now.

      stacked blocker patterns eh , fucking load of BS .....The Irish use the tactic called "pod play" where groups of players are strategically positioned to block AND RUN INTO defenders ILLEGALLY and create space ILLEGALLY for their attacking players. This strategy is 100% shepherding, as it allows the attackers to run behind the players forming the pods, and blocking or shielding them from the opposition having any chance of defending. world rugby has to decide whether they want to join the American football NFL or Not , How the Irish get away with this illegal , lame and cowardly tactic is anyone's guess , Go figure
      Just have a look at the first try and tell me how many scotland players are taken out by irish players running straight into them after someone else has passed the ball behind them

    Scottish team is on an upward trajectory a few years behind Ireland in that rise, but rising and improving. Scotland has been so unfortunate that their strong team has coincided with Ireland's and South Africa's great teams and Scotland are the first victims of the ridiculous 2023 draw. A top 5 team will not make the last 8. After next weekend, two top 4 teams will definitely not make the semis. Scotland have already beaten two comfortable Wales/England this year in the 6 nations. Scotland v Ireland: How Nick Berry was given the job to referee this match. Out of all the referee's on display, Nick Berry will be at the bottom of the barrel in regards to game management. In saying that the refereeing at this World Cup has been very substandard, and the interference of the TMO should have a time limit placed on them, just like the goal kickers have to adhere to.
    "FOR INSTANCE,"
    England 🇬🇧 v Samoa 🇼🇸 Samoa scores a try the referee awards it, try is converted all in the matter of 2 minutes 25 seconds. The TMO Informs the ref that he is going to check or a knock-on, or vice versa, the ref Informs the TMO. Try disallowed. Owen Farrell lines up a conversion, he's penalised because he is over the time limit, but conversion is allowed. My point is, if the try and conversion was allowed Samoa would gone from 17-11 to 24-11, England scores a converted try the score 24-18 at full-time to Samoa.
    The other scenario, Samoa is ahead 17-11, England scores a try, 17-16 Samoa, England needs the conversion to win 18-17. The conversion is disallowed, therefore Samoa should have won 18-16.
    This is why believe that this world cup was dominated by the match officials.
