When I was 20 years old, I dropped out of college and said to myself that I will do what I really want and what I see meaning in. So I decided to build my dream log cabin, all by myself, in the middle of an off-grid bush.
After I left school, I went to work for a while to earn money for trees and hand tools. I spent all the money I earned and my savings on it. Thank God, I already owned the land I have - I got it from my dear parents as a gift and I also bought another part of the land with my own money.
I chose a log cabin for my home because I like it. I build it with the vision of living a simple and peaceful life in it. Having time is more important to me than having money. Of course, nowadays a person cannot live without money, but I would like to live in such a way that my expenses are not so high and thus reduce the need for money. I want to have time not only for myself, but also for my future wife and children. That's why I will try to build the most self-sufficient life possible, in which my own housing, in my case a log cabin, will be the heart of this system.
I chose the traditional method of building - using only hand tools because they are my favorite. There is beauty in simplicity.
Working with hand tools has several advantages: You are able to work off-grid, the entire set of tools you need can fit in one bag, there is better safety when you work alone, you don´t make too much noise when you´re working... so I enjoy it more and I believe you will too, while watching :)
My dear father is a carpenter. I remember that most of the things he taught me while working with wood were precisely while working with hand tools, which required the most attention and practice from me.
My father taught me how to work with wood from a young age, but I have no experience with building a log cabin, so I'm learning everything as I go, and I'm looking forward to what this experience will teach me.
It may not seem like it, but it was a big struggle to get this opportunity to be able to work on my dream, but I finally did it and for that I am incredibly grateful. I applaud and commend this young man for having the courage and youth to build his own off the grid home. This what young men today need to do with their time instead of chase women, do drugs, get drunk or ride around on motorcysles or loud cars and go to jail. Keep up the great work young man. I sure wish you had a hoist for those huge logs !!! I know you want to do everything by hand. But getting a chain hoist ready is a "handful."

Amazing patience. A pioneer placed in 2023 would have picked up every modern tool he could get. They did things this way because there wasn't another way. They had no choice.

Thank you sir. Don't worry, I know it looks scary, but before I started lifting logs, I learned the deadlift technique for two years and was able to lift 170kg.

I've built several log homes. Peeling sucks but you're doing it the right way although I'd buy a bigger draw knife. Too many people sap peel and then have splitting and rotting issues as time goes on.
Thank you sir for the advice. It didn't realized that these problems could occur. As for the draw knife, at that time I couldn't afford a new draw knife, so I used this small one.
I want to try peeling logs one day. Yikes though. Looks like a lot of work. Wish I was your age! Lol. Watching from Ontario Canada 🎉😂

You can make temporary ramps to get those heavy logs up on the saw horses. Now that would be working smarter. Unfortunately you won't be

Hello my friend. They are fresh, healthy trees cut down. It is best to cut them down in winter. After I peeled the logs, I put them in a pile and let them dry. The logs are now much lighter. But it is not necessary, log cabins can also be built from fresh logs without any problems.
Check out Sean James on how he manipulated his logs I think you’d appreciate it and I’m sure you could use the idea somehow it would be better for your back because it’s gonna take you a while to finish this you’ll need all your health!!!!! 🙏❤️🙏❤️🙏

Those logs seem very straight and pretty consistent in diameter. Did you havest them yourself? What species is the tree?
Yes, they are nice. Unfortunately, I did not harvest them myself. I don't have my forest yet. So I bought a piece of forest that was cut down for me. I would have preferred to do it all myself, but I didn't have the opportunity. The logs are from a fir tree.
