    Having bots in a game is honestly a deal-breaker for me. I hate the feeling of schooting another player, only to find out it was Fritz the bot who just had to smell the flowers in no man's land

      I get that, for the most part I agree, but I have to say the bots in Enlisted weren't as bad as I thought they would be. It was a real put off for me, then having played the game for a while they weren't THAT bad. A pretty weak argument to be fair, but they did "bulk out" the experience which at times added to the epic-ness of storming the beach for example. But yeah, they're dumb as hell and it's a let down when you shoot one compared to a real player...

    What I mostly like about HLL is that there is no real progression aside from some kits and skins you can unlock. Every game all players have the same gear and weaknesses a mere footsoldier has. There is no real way of getting an advantage over other players besides just getting better at it.

    Enlisted feels more like a single player, medium/large scale battles with occasional weird players/bots. You are the commander of your bots and use them to cover areas while you cover others. The dumbest gunplay, ugliest animations and the worst… the silliest bots I’ve ever seen 😂 It gives no emotions when you win, cause you know that 70 percents of your kills are bots, who were just hanging around with their buddies, doing actually… nothing 😆 They are also as useless as dumb, so there’s no point in campaigning, the only thing that can lead you to play this trash is that you’ve no friends to play good games with, but it’s your problem, and it can’t be solved by playing this shit, only by changing your life in some way 😅

    For a free to play game enlisted is pretty good but there's some typical free to play jank that comes along with that. The UI takes a while to get used to, it's very convoluted but like you said once you get a feel for it the progression is pretty good. My biggest gripe is that sometimes my tank will get stopped at full speed by a bush or some small piece of rubble on the ground which has got me killed several times while attempting to flank another tank or evade AT soldiers. The bots are also borderline useless and will just stand there while enemy soldiers pour into a room and massacre them. You can always make them hold position behind cover somewhere out of the way and switch between them as necessary but if you need bodies on an objective they will probably all die very fast.

    I actually love bots in enlisted, once you know how to use them and stop using them as a meat shield they are quite useful and add a strategic element to the game, moreover, they make the battles feel a bit more epic, you can hardly get this feeling from other games when you stick your head out of a window or a trench and see a full squad of enemies, or even more moving among the buildings or trees. yea, a lot of them are bots but still, they fill the battlefield a lot and you know there is a player among them, and even if you can kill the player first, which is hard, the bots might kill you, in any other WW game, once you see an enemy soldier, you know either he is going to die literally in the next second, or you will, most of the time you can't even see the enemy that killed you. it feels good to ocasionally get multi kills with your mortar rounds or artillery too. After playing enough, you don't even care if you kill a bot or a player, because you realize that killing a bot is in fact, killing a player respawn opportunity, so the feeling is almost the same, every bot you kill count and makes difference. Lastly, when you know how to postion your bots and they start getting some kills... well, it somehow feels rewarding.

Your mortar squad lost its engineer? You’ll just have to make the best of those 4 shells you have left then!

      Yeah HLL can get really painful if you’re not ready for engagements at 100 meters or more. At that point your not looking for bodies your looking for movement and the fashion for the game is “he who sits, sees.”
      Unless you’re battling a hard point you won’t really see them first if your moving and they aren’t. The game heavily relies on movement as a factor for identification of an enemy due to the color scheme designs and uniform options.

  • @DOBS13
    @DOBS13 Před rokem +2

    What i like about HLL, coming from BF and COD, is that you can't just pick it up and play(you could argue rifleman/medic). But what i mean is, every player on the map has a job to do, one single person can influence the taking of a point, or defending a point. For example a machine gunner perfectly placed can disrupt a whole team for minutes at a time. But also, a tank squad relies on infantry to prevent someone from putting a satchel on or attacking the rear with a anti tank gun. If you get lucky and have all the squads/commander in sync, its beautiful. Being able to use different tactics etc. I still only know about 40% of all the maps, which is essential sometimes, and can be the difference between winning and loosing, for example where to drop supplies, where to place garrisons, where to place outposts, where to place airheads etc so the other team can't find them, just knowing the maps can be the difference. I played enlisted and the gun play just felt cranky and junky. I liked the ordering your team around however, it reminded me of flashpoint on the xbox 360, and reminded me of brothers in arms, its just not executed very well. I'd love to try post scriptum

    Games like Hell Let Loose would be much better served if players were funneled towards cohesion.
    While the dispersion is fairly realistic, concentrated attacks most definitely are too. Tight clusters of objectives would be a great help towards that. Like say, A B and C within a couple dozen yards of each other with a few other objectives in the distance clustered the same way. Scatter a few lone ones on the flanks to motivate scouts and maneuver elements.

    • @twiglets2
      @twiglets2  Před rokem +5

      @sowpmactavish let me check I'm understanding correctly....rather than one objective, split that into several small objectives that are close to each other but force a team to coordinate in order to capture A B and C in order to capture the objective as a whole?
      I may have misunderstood but I think you may be onto something. I dislike how HLL has a big square for you to capture with a hardpoint in the middle. If you could break that up into small elements that are close but separate, that could be a very cool addition to what is essentially a king of the hill style gameplay.

    • @sowpmactavish
      @sowpmactavish Před rokem +3

      @@twiglets2 that's basically what I was saying yeah. But maybe not force teams to capture A B and C to capture an overarching objective ABC. Just have regular objectives closer together. That way you dont have to change up anything in code, just fire up the map editor and add some objectives. I was thinking like, A could be a farmhouse, B could be the barn and field next to it, and C could be a hedgerow to the south next to the road. Elsewhere on the map, D could be a bunker atop a hill, and E and F could be fortifications along its flanks. Just points you would naturally select to attack and would make sense for reinforcements to insert into, but turned into explicit objectives to encourage squads to group up a bit more.
      Although I can see what you described working too. Would be even cooler if each objective had you do something different, like connect telephone lines or sabotage existing ones, like in a classic COD campaign.

    • @MrNmballa
      @MrNmballa Před 6 měsíci

      Thats exactly now HLL used to be. You had to control 2 out 3 objectives to take the sector. The maps were also larger. You gained more resources the further in to enemy territory you built nodes. This actually gave recon a job vs just sniping. HLL has gone down hill.

Another point regarding classes I feel has a bit of a bias towards hell let loose as you didn't mention the fact that the roles are locked out if the squad is part full or nearly full. As a result if you're joining into a game mid progress or you're not fast enough to hop into an empty squad and pick the role of you want, you don't have alot of choice and could spend alot of time either as rifleman or a class you don't enjoy as much. And yet another case of f2p (and p2w) vs. p2p. Honestly both are a double edged sword. Both are time consuming, and both are multiplayer games based on WW2.
    However from my experience as a Enlisted player, all I can say is on how someone plays both games. It really doesn’t matter. As long as if you’re having fun. That’s all that matters.
    And to people struggling for both games. Something I learned from the TF2 community, is to remove the “tab” key as a whole. Whereas you have free will and don’t have to care on how you do in the game. Also if you have an annoying chat, disable it. Much better than to listen to conversations that are going to add more stress to your gameplay.
    And to p2w users… your wallet is restricted to you. If you want it. Then ok. Buy it. If it makes you happy. Then you’re good.

    I think it's difficult to compare both games. One is rather a single player game, the other is absolutely squad and team based. In Enlisted you can upgrade your weapons and unlock rly important stuff. In game there's no real communication. HLL is based on communication and you'll only be able to win if you have a microphone and communicate with squad and squad leader regularly and the latter with the commander and other squad leaders. Also there are barely significant weapons to unlock. One or two shots from a rifle and you are dead. If you get shot at you'll get suppressed, especially by machine guns. Enlisted is certainly fun to play but it has neither a realistic nor a (real) tactical approach. It's nice to play it every now and then but if you prefer real immersion it's definitely HLL for me.

      a server browser is a deal breaker? It literally takes me 10 seconds to find a game and get into it, and you get to choose what map to play on if you want. I often hear people complain about the whole running and getting sniped, that is because you are new to the game. Once you understand the fundamentals, you'll understand you can't just go running off alone and you actually have to stay grouped together as units in order to progress. People want hardcore without the consequences of hardcore gameplay. Learn to be cohesive with your unit, help your SL move forward and establish new OPs and garrisons as you move. That's how you win battles. Not by running alone.

    I have to disagree with a lot of the decisions here.
    In my opinion, HLL has VERY unsatisfying tank combat. For a game that leans hard into immersion, it is incredibly frustrating to learn that each nations tanks are practically all identical, save visual differences, thanks to the light, medium, heavy class system. And dont get me started on the damage model, and the turn rate that feels like every tank is a late war Pz.IV, with its extremely overloaded traverse mechanism.
    Enlisted on the other hand, I have found casual joy in its tank combat, and plane combat. I have had a decent time with friends when ive lost tank crew, and had my friends crew the rest of the vehicle, to emulate the HLL co-operative tank experience. From a gameplay design perspective, HLL's tankery fits very well with the rest of the elements of the game, but I personally cannot stand its implementation. Squad and Post Scriptum have more proper damage models, not those wonky health bars.
    Enlisted wins handily for me here.
    Additionally, for Map Design, I found HLL's maps to often feel monotone, and look mostly identical. So many identical looking hedgerows and fences. The towns feel quite bland and empty, with only an occasional house actually enterable, but mostly, same looking, empty stone hallways. Plus parkour/clambering is a bitch. Not to mention for the longest time, there were only Western Front maps, but new Eastern Front maps are quite good. They may fit the playstyle of HLL but I absolutely believe there could be more creativity.
    In contrast, the video only seems to display Normandy for Enlisted. There are now 6 campaigns, each with a remarkably expansive and detailed map (sometimes multiple), which can be separated into different variations, and every location/objective feels very distinct. There is nothing in HLL to rival the Moscow Kreml, and there are just fragments of the Komsomolskaya labour camp (I think im misremembering the name) in HLL's Kursk.
    Berlin is jaw-droppingly detailed, with the Chancellery, Wilhelmstrasse, the Train Station, the riverside, all technically in one map. Plus the Armored Train map, with its own bridge, the riverside village, the bunker, and all the railside houses.
    Every structure is enterable, and while the parkour may feel strange, or overpowered, you have to credit the developers for letting you climb to any floor you want, and being able to walk around the top of a bombed-out Berlin apartment that still has furniture in the rooms. I'm more glad in Enlisted we are able to do that, than not.
    I have not played a lot of Tunisia, but I thought the desert environment was still quite memorable, with the distinctive, African/Middle eastern adobes, the ancient ruins, palm trees, and those neat below ground complexes.
    Stalingrad feels like a right proper Stalingrad. I could recognize all the locations that were in Red Orchestra 2, from the Univermag, the Train Station, Fallen Fighters square, the Red October Factory, etc. (which also proves that although sometimes Enlisted's map objectives can get a bit grindy, or campy, thats not the fault of map design, just the playstyle and abilities in Enlisted. Other games could absolutely reuse the same maps for their purposes), even though the furniture, decals, and odd destroyed wall was different. And the lighting in this map is gorgeous.
    HLL's Stalingrad has its own merits as well, with the memorable railyard area, and Pavlov's house-esque section. But reuses many assets from Kursk, and has really, a disappointing amount of focus on urban combat with height and tight quarters.
    Finally we come to the newest campaign, in the Pacific. The old colonial era church, the SE Asian stilt hut village at the riverhead, the IJA hangars and barracks, or even just the bombarded, burnt-out sections of of the island would shame any HLL map in visibility, but still having plenty of cover and sense of direction. I could absolutely see this map fitting right in with HLL's current style of maps.

    From what I've seen so far: Enlisted is more arcade-ish, you can just hop in even after a rough day and play.
    It is different for HLL, because you really have to be in a mood to play it, but when you actually reach that mood, it feels like a blessing.
    HLL can drive you absolutely mad and make you not ever wanna play this game again, but matches, where you're doing some real damages to your enemy bring up more satisfaction.
    I personally prefer HLL. It's more challenging (can be more frustrating cause of it), there is really NO P2W or subscription that boosts your XP or something and the community is a miracle.
    Summing it up:
    Enlisted if you just wanna play a WW2 game that is quite easy to understand. It's also F2P
    HLL if you prefer strategic games that take a lot of communication.
    Both games are very good, but I don't think they are actually comparable. They are much different from each other.

    I would have to say that all the points were viable except for round eleven. The difference here isn't a matter of either game's quality, but their nature in general. Enlisted is, as stated, much more arcade in nature where Hell Let Loose is more like Diet Milsim. Bots are okay in that arcade environment, it fits into the nature of Enlisted, but bots, no matter how sophisticated, will just not work in a Milsim environment, you need that human interaction and that's what really makes Hell Let Loose. Enlisted is fast, simple to play and exciting. Hell Let Loose is also fast and exciting, but generally requires players to be methodical and thoughtful, putting more effort into actually taking the situation serious and working with others to succeed. The very nature is visible in the match play times, Enlisted matches range between ten and thirty minutes, where Hell Let Loose can be around an hour and a half. It's the nature of the games and, as stated, is very subjective to the perspective of the player and what kind of experience they are looking for. So I have to say this is indeed a draw. I play way more Enlisted, by a long shot, but sometimes I want some Hell Let Loose and it's always a blast, an experience I don't get anywhere else on console.

    One important point, that I don't see represented enough for Enlisted, is the easy access that the bots bring to the game.
    Compared to more traditional shooters, a player can faster and easier pick up the game and have positive experiences. Not having a negative K/D and not always losing your position due to dying, seems like a huge plus for more casual players. Obviously for more experienced players this might be a turnoff in return.
