- On this week's episode of The Breakdown, brought to you by Sky Bet, we took a close look at why Manchester United have struggled so much in the bigger games this season.
Do you think Erik ten Hag can turn his fortunes around this season to ensure he’s in the dugout at Old Trafford next season or do you think his replacement under the new sporting leadership is almost inevitable?

It's because we're shite, it's not a mystery.
lol well said. football is a simple game, its 11 vs 11 and the germans win.
@@toffeechad8413the Germans certainly do win. Jurgen Norbert Klopp
🤣🤣 Yep pure & simple just not good enough
You clicked, didnt you? Job done.
Big games???? They struggle in EVERY game! They struggled against Newport. They struggle because they have terrible players, their good players are always injured or mentally weak or unmotivated
Agree on the first part but if fergie or klopp had these players at least they would have a way of playing and actual pride in the shirt ...
Nonsense, we've had a few good games this year, and are at the first part of a rebuild. Other fans obsessed with being ABUs
@@lambert8915 no you’re in denial. United are terrible. I am from Manchester. I follow man United. This side is terrible. 90% of the first team squad are not of man united standards in terms of mentality.
@@RoaminRob yea I agree, the manager is not up to scratch unfortunately.
Spot on 😂
Looks like they pulled something out of the bag. (Man United 4 - Liverpool 3) 😁
Because we've spent the last decade insisting that the manager brings back the old days, instead of recognising that we are ten years behind in terms of football cycles.
💯
underrated take
Based take. Someone with their head out of their arse.
Can’t defend, can’t attack. We play without a midfield. It’s a mess from back to front
We defend very well. That's the only thing keeping ten Hag's team relevant
@@broderickfalldo we? We concede record numbers of shots per games. It’s only a lack of quality forwards amongst the average teams which stops us losing badly every game.
@@_Tricky_ we concede so many shots because our midfield is so porous, and our attack give away the ball for fun. If our defence was just as bad, we'd be in trouble. We had the most clean sheets last season despite de Gea being in the bottom 3 for shots saved. This season, we're 4th from top for goals conceded.. but 4th from bottom for goals scored. Somehow we're still 6th
Tbh he’s had terrible luck with injuries.
Which are his own doing.
@@benjaminngopwaamos6878 You think ten hag is going around breaking players legs?
Good video with great analysis.
We struggle more against mid table teams at home and sometimes away tbh
This aged well
Because they won one game 😂
Great video 🫶🏻
It's all fine and well if formations and tactics determine why United struggle, but the fact is it's always the effort, or complete lack thereof. Talent doesn't exist without effort, as Roy once talked about before about Paul Pogba. Work ethic is the most fundamental basis of how a team is built.
Do you think Mctominay is an elite footballer then? Because passion is the only thing he has. You actually need some footballing ability at a top club.
Its not lack of effort this season most of the time its just bad decision making on the pitch
What lack of effort are you seeing? They've come from behind multiple times to win this season.
Everything feeds into each other. You need a certain level of confidence to implement the manager’s tactics and you also need clear instructions that players can see working to build confidence
You didn't need to add the word "big". We are an absolute disgrace. 90% of our wins feel like watching a loss.
Lack of quality. Pretty simple answer. That’s before mentality is factored in.
Yup. Weak signings and the old ‘you work harder than the opposition’ mentality is long gone.
Curious if this was Klopps second season would you call for him out ?
Next weeks video: Why Do United Struggle in Small Games?
Just beat Liverpool. Suck it 😅
When you see the gap between United's backline and forward line, you'll immediately understand why United lack the ability to control games. That is fully on the manager. Ten Hag should decide whether he wants to play a high line and high press or low block. You can't play both at the same time.
If you play a low block you must build from the wings which is tough to do when you don't have a left back. If you drop the press you allow your opposition too much time on the ball eventually leading to chances and your players tiring out more. United High expectations mean that ten hag has to get out of every match with a win without a set of players that can barely compete on the highest level. When he feels that pressure and the weight of the expectations you see it in his tactics and that's been the case for every manager in the last 10 years. The board needs to recognise that they need to let go of expectations to win every match no matter what the fans say and build from scratch or were screwed. The only thing abt united that's united is the badge. Everything else is gone and same should be the case with ridiculous expectations
it took man city 80 minutes to take the lead against them having said that they gave away a two goal lead to newport and that was with their best team on the pitch
Tbf it was bayindir first and only game he has got too play since all season
Please can we do some stuff on other teams. Man Utd, Liverpool, man city, it's all you talk about.
In the last 3 months he has done videos on Leverkusen, Villa, Everton, Arsenal, Girona and West Ham
We don't want to hear about Weston-super-Mare 😂😂😂😂
@@weekendwarriorprospecting817 Damn! Damn! Daaaaammmnnn! 😂😂😂😂😂😂😂😂
The narrative, to get this man sacked is unbelievable…..
The media is going out of its way to get him sacked
They struggle because the team isn’t good enough lol
Our performances in the big games have been than the small games
Quite simple really........they are not as good as the teams they are playing against.
Its not just the big games thou is it. Every game united struggle to keep possession, when the opposition break its so easy for them to bypass the midfield and get ar our defence, were conceding around 20+ shots a game just lately. There's no control, no disapline, no structure to what were trying to do from game to game looks like a bunch of strangers on the pitch. Dont know if its the coaching setup, the players or if thats how the manger wants to setup but big changes need to happen
They go into big games and melt especially if one makes a mistake or decision goes against them. A sorry outfit poorly led by Fernandes. Tactically out thought and out fought on the pitch almost every week!
Enough to make a grown man cry...
umm one thing ... difficulty alone duuuh It's City, Liverpool, and more, that makes it obvious to part of the reason
Last season we beat Liverpool, Arsenal,Chelsea City Barcelona at home.
It’s much worse away and absolutely abysmal. United couldn’t even beat Chelsea at Stamford Bridge last season, and Chelsea were horrendous. Last top team beaten away was Spurs in October 2021.
7-0
@@willdeal4367Calling Spurs a top team makes me smile 😂😂😂
Hoijlund has the power to battle against Van Dijk and maybe Konate 😂
You could dissect our performances all you want, but it’s simpler to say we are poor in every relevant area, from the club structure to individual performances. We will improve eventually but right now, it’s embarrassing to watch most of our performances
and Manchester United won :) so yeaaaah
Because the players aren’t good enough, they don’t work hard enough and they’re not set up correctly.
It’s not complicated.
Liverpool had more centre half partnerships in 20/21? than United have had different back 4’s. Liverpool still got top 4. He can’t use 2/3 injuries as an excuse
And what happened last season to your team when half your squad was injured. Won nothing and ended in a Europa league position. Did your fans cry Klopp out? Half of our team was injured this season, it's not just 2/3 injuries. Worry about your own manager and club
Cos there shite
united struggle in small and big games, not just big games.
Come on! It’s almost all the games!!! Wake up editor!!!
In short ETH getting sacked first thing this Monday morning after a horrifying beating at OT
Look at Real Madrid's signings compared to United's, That's how to build for a better future. Seems United don't have a clue when it comes to rebuilding. Hence what we see and have seen for 10 years or so now.
Bring Jose back.
Well this didn’t age well….
Blaming the different back 4’s we’ve had out on bad tactics is mental 😂😂😂 do you not know about the injuries we’ve had?
Because they park the bus
The only “big team” to do this in modern football
To be fair sometimes rma does it as well
Content and data are great. Voice over though...... can improve a lot more, like MUFC at the moment
this aged well 👀
Define struggle
Are you mad? Struggle in big games? They've been struggling in every game for over a decade.
Look at rashford. Never track back, thinking he is cristiano level already.
Smashed Liverpool too pieces 🤣
Why do Liverpool struggle in big games 🤔😆
The way we play, we have no chance against Liverpool
Cuz we're sh*t!!
What was that???😂😂😂😂😂😂
They were never good to begin with…
Save you all some time. It’s cos we are shite.
Every game is a big game for utd😂
I agree
How well Man Utds defence goes in this gane will be a deciding factor
Deciding factor if Liverpool win by 2-3-4-5 -6-7 etc 😂😂😂
Somehow, Ten Haag currently has the best win percentage of any Manchester United manager in history.
We don’t draw many
They’ve looked shocking against big teams for 10 years
Stop making excuse for ten Hag!
most overrated manager of all time. GOAT.
They struggle in every game because they are completely and utterly shite
This didn't age well lol
Cos they're rubbish and flat track bullies? Easy win for Liverpool tomorrow
Smashed liverpool to pieces 😂😂 looks like we dont struggle in big games. The question should be why are liverpool struggling in big games this season they have not won 1 😂😂😂
I hope and think that EtH will be the able to pull something out of the bag.
Especially if AWB is fit and we play Dalot as LB Evans, VARANE then AWB , Mainoo Eriksen in the 2 for the first half (Casemiro 2nd when game is a bit slower hopefully )then Marcus Bruno and Garnacho.
Hojlund, a lot is going to rest on his holdup play. We can do it 2-1 or 3-2 but we have to be clinical!!!!
UTR❤️🤍🖤!!!!!
Eriksen over Casemiro? 😂
Because Eriksen can handle a quicker pace? 😂
I would rather have Eriksen in over Bruno as 10. He can't run but he can create. Bruno can run but he can't complete more than 1 pass in 10.
Sorry, weve seen liverpool with 4 of the normal back 5 out and theres been little discernable difference.
No Trent or Robbo for ages? Weve managed. So spare me the injuries theory....
What a muppet
Twice as bad as all top 6 teams... I can't believe for that 7:0 6:3 amongst other results. I wish he's sacked now and take some of the players with him that down tools.
Stop trying to over analyse things. Lack of quality and poor decision making both on the pitch and in the dugout.
An ok explantation, but all teams have injuries to key players. Ten Hag has failed to adapt and evolve. There can't be any question about that.
Last season he adapted this season he is stuck to his principles and using sink or swim and the pressing side is working as united won 2nd amount behind Arsenal in oposition 3rd
The problem is the back 4 like he said doesn't back the press because varane, lindelof maguire evans aren't good in high line
You had your chance to back Moyes and now you can't beat him. 😂😂⚒️⚽️❤️
we bagged three against him bruv...move over take the L
Pretty sure Moyes has the worst record of any manager ever against United, and for United 🤭
Here after Pool got dunked lMAOOO
Dutch coaches like Ten hag, Van Gaal, Ronald koeman, Philip Cocu, Martin jol..etc all have a boring game.
Yet another piece on yep, Man Utd. I for one am 💯 % sick of everyone talking about this club. Absolute disgrace.
It’s an “absolute disgrace”? It’s just football, no one suffers any actual harm. Grow up
I’ll save you 5minutes… it’s cos they suck. You’re welcome
Ten Hag is MASSIVELY overrated and his only achievement is winning the SAME trophies as Steve McLaren...... 🤦♂️
He only gets away with it because he's Dutch.
You lot never mention that this is only his second season give us a break do you expect him to perform miracles
