"Who is the consumer?" When it's anyone else; I'll sink days into making something look like a polished product from a store. When it's me; unpainted 2x4's with screws sticking out of it
Paint would just hide all the work you put into it.
This is basically what I meant for your videos when you asked for feedback about what kind of videos. The problem, prototyping, problem solving, and making, all included in it. Great job to you and your team!
Bob, the result is gorgeous! The best part, though, was sharing your process. You exposed some very simple ways to prototype and remodel. Having the listed requirements ever-present is so logical and simple. Thanks!
Building some thing that is âhiding in plain sightâ. You sir are definitely a fan of transformers. Missed you this year at WBC, Bob and team. Hope all is well. This is a fantastic story of prototyping and coming through with an awesome result. I hope this video does really well for you guys. It was great.
The cat saying "get a real job" was funny đ€Łđ€Łđ€Ł
Nice stand. I made one for my VR headset using a plastic mannequin head that i filled with concrete to add some weight and mounted to a wooden base. Looks pretty awesome and cost me next to nothing.
PS. The real issue with the PSVR2 is that it's tethered. Once you try a headset without an umbilical cord, you'll never use anything else anymore. It's on another level of freedom and immersion.
This is a great video on the whole design process and I can't wait to share it with our STEM and design students. Thank you. As always your content is fun and informative.
I LOVE this form of a video! Normally I watch for entertainment + learning new things (not for a specific project necessarily), but the iterations - prototype workflow kind of the video gave me lots of inspiration for future projects, way of thinking and so on đ
And not to mention the end result looks great! Have fun with the new VR2 đ€©
I enjoyed the deeper look at the process you go through for your builds, and I like the final result quite a bit. Thank you!
Glad you enjoyed it!
Thank you Bob for walking us through your design process. I've just recently developed an appreciation for the prototyping approach so this was a timely video!
I still remember many podcasts back, when Jimmy mentioned that the first thing his students did was try to 3D print a prototype but they couldâve easily used ready made things like plastic bottles or make simple shapes with styrene. Adam Savage also talked about building a small room with cardboard. Even software/web design is somewhat quicker with an initial sketch. Low cost and low risk ways of trying out concepts never gets old!
Thanks for showing how you approach CAD Bob!
I really liked the wooden pins you used in the 3D print to connect it. Going to use that in the future!
Bob I've been following you for years on here and the making it podcast. This is by far my favorite video. I don't have or care about the vr headset but the process being explained the way you did was art. Thanks for all you give the community
When I read the title I thought, what he found a way to make it wireless? Crazy!!
I did too. I was looking forward to that work around.
I learned a lot from the mock up fase with the cardboard. Really helpful. Thanks!
LOVED the explanation and seeing you go through the process. I'll definitely be incorporating more prototyping into my projects now.
Thanks for the vid! That little *doing* when almost checking that last part off- PERCFECT!
I don't think most people realise that you guys go through this planning, designing, prototyping, and production process for basically every video. You essentially launch a new product every week or so while most companies don't do that. Thanks for showing your process. The final design looks great. I loved the black and white colour scheme of the holder. It matches the console nicely.
I think the only thing to make this better would be adding a little pocket or something for the cable rather than it sitting on top. That's really the only thing that bothers me on mine when I store it. I like that you put the inset for the charger base so it doesn't move around. Really cool and simple!
Such an awesome video of walking us through the process of designing a product to not only meet a functional need but to look cool as well. Thanks đđ
Really enjoyed this video, while I may not have the tools you have it gave some insight as to how you go about something from start to finish. I think something like this with a Beginner, Intermediate, and Advanced level final products and production would be a great video. Then you are hitting all skill levels and price points of those interested in doing something similar.
Glad you enjoyed it!
Love seeing the thought process behind your designs! Keep it up!
Great video! Since you used MDF, I would recommend rounding the corners of the back piece just a little more because it will lessen the chance of the corner getting dinged and it will match the other rounded areas on the piece. The 3D printed parts were very cool!
Daggum! I like to make stuff "tv". Your team works very hard to make quality content and products, and it shows. This video is professional as hell while also being easy to digest and fun to watch. Bravo team! Keep it up Bob! You guys are killing it!
â€
Loved this video! Very helpful for the design insights, plus we get to see a neat little build.
Very slick, sir. A stand by, and for, the consumer / user. It may not be for everyone, but it is a very well thought out product. An 'improvement' I might consider would be melamine surfaced, with either a black or white edge banding for the base. I like the 3D printed front and rear bracket, but as an option, the front bracket in the melamine and rear bracket in the MDF for those without a 3D printer.
Loved how in-depth this went!
Thanks Bob and Team!
Thanks for a great experience of designing a project. Would love to see more like this.
Well thought out video & product. Makes me happy with the machines I get to use at work. With a 450w CO2 laser, I have the advantage of cutting thicker materials. 3/4" plywood & acrylic, for example.
This was super cool! Love watching the prototype phase.
Hey Jesse! Great to see you here, thanks!
Really interesting video ! I never thought of using cardboard for prototyping my 3D models ! This is a really neat idea which will greatly improve my subsequent projects ! Thank you !
Another great video guys, appreciate seeing the process so thoroughly!
I use your skewer trick quite a bit. Super simple and very inexpensive!
Thanks for the peek behind the curtain!
Great "Application Engineering", sir
Great idea, so cool to watch you work through it
Great video, gives us an understanding how to develop ideas. Probably one of my favourite videos.
My Thrustmaster T300 + Wheel Stand Pro V2 + IKEA PoĂ€ng are very happy with this đ
Already ordered slap-on subscribtion lenses at an VR Optician so I don't have to wear glasses or contacts. Amazing times we live in!
Well done Bob! That turned out very functional & looks terrific! The only thing that I would have added would be pieces of felt or sponge material on the surfaces that the helmet contacts. đđ
I can tell your doing what you love, I hope you have good fortune and start to sell most of your 3d printed items, even if they are slightly over priced.
I am loving the caption pop-ups that you've been adding.
Like the "Who is the Consumer?"
Or the IG comments on your plainer.
The title makes it sound like there's a problem with the PSVR2 itself and not that you just wanted a better method of storage. It didn't become clear what the "problem" was until a couple minutes into the video. It's a cool video making a great stand for the PSVR2, I just think the title was misleading.
Also with graph paper, it helps really well to try and get a good sense of scale, depending on what youâre sketching out. i.e one square is so-and-so inches in real life
I got excited when I saw this video , I thought someone finally has a fix for the right (or left) controller not responding in games without a hard reset to the controller. I sent my controller back to sony and I still have no update on what's going on. I had the PSVR2 since launch day and haven't been able to play anything without resetting the controller , and now that sony has my controller I really can't play anything .
OOF.
That sucks, man. FYI though there are some PSVR 2 games that can be played with the Dualsense controller instead of the VR controllers. Off the top of my head, I'm pretty sure Gran Turismo 7, Thumper, Rez Infinite, Tetris Effect Connected, and I think Awesome Asteroids can be played with the Dualsense. Also I'm pretty sure Pistol Whip can be played with one controller, you just can't enable dual-wielding iirc.
Hope this helps if you're looking for something to play in the headset while you wait for Sony to repair your controller. And beyond that, it's not a bad idea to have some Dualsense games so you could still play something even if your VR controllers run out of batteries.
1:42 Savage kitty đ€Ł
If I made this for DIY plans, I would probably add a 3d-printed lip for the charging base instead of routing a pocket for it. You could cut out the other wooden bits with a bandsaw, jigsaw or a even a fretsaw if you wanted to go with hand tools, but you need a router for the pocket.
love the process!
Loved the video and the design, but LOVED that you used Sunset Drive by Future Joust as the background music. I am loving synthwave right now
Very Nice! and now I want to go and get my headset off of the shelf.
That's a very great video. I love these thinking of problems
I need this! I keep looking on Amazon, nothing but ones with controller chargers and led lights that are super tall. I want it to fit under the tv.
Very sleek design!! One thought for me would be to have a soft felt material or something where the from on the headset rests to keep it from scuffing it up. Otherwise, its awesome!!
Pretty interesting process, Bob! Thanks for all the tips! đ
Stay safe there with your family! đđ
This is awsome work!
The little cat sass was fun đ
If you choose to sell this as a kit, I think it will be great to add 2 holes in the center to mount directly into a stud.
How did you end up storing the cable attached to the headset?
This is genius and a great way to execute any project!
I wish I would have had this when I built my website and started my business đ€Ł
Great video!
I ordered such holder from AliExpress day 1, it also has it's own charger and a place to hang ps pulse headphones, all in one
Awesome video! One thing I would suggest to change is the back panel, or mounting panel. I would definitely reshape the corners, round them off in some way. The whole thing, including psvr2 is so curvy that those corners stick out like a sore thumb. Otherwise awesome!
That's a good call!
@@Iliketomakestuff Thanks! I'm a cabinet maker myself so I guess it just jumped out to me đ
This is frickin awesome dude!
AHAHAAAHAAHA shout out to the passive aggressive cat đđđđ
The cradle for your controller costs more than other available solutions that also hold the headset. Many options existed right from launch day.
I'm totally going to adapt this to hang on the underside of my computer desk. Real Estate is at a premium on my desk because all my consoles go to one monitor. Thanks Bob!
Love it I would definitely buy one :-)
Great video Bob! I would have put it on the side of the inside cabinet not the backside just because it would be easier to access. But you're the consumer not me!! Lol! I need to get one of those VR sets for my PS5 but its just too pricey for me! Thumbs up!
Yo, that among us meme came out of no where đđ
The front bracket is a great place for your logo.
how did you fix the price Bob?
I see you have a cat based on the fraying couch bottom. Ever make a cat walk for your house? 1:15
Oh man.. my 3 cats have ravaged that couch!! No, I've never made one!
@@Iliketomakestuff A true Cat owner! lol. yea our couch is no different. We just couldn't come to terms with declawing our three little guys. Love your videos by the way. Great content!
Hi A quick suggestion for a project for you. A lot of new psvr2 owners are playing gran Turismo 2 in VR. How about showing us how to make an affordable wheel and pedal stand. The game is hugely popular and I'm sure many people would appreciate it. Thanks
15:12 that among us reference. Lmao
a rare appearance
One of the prototype looks like a big boat over the sea of gaming
I just wonder how easy it will be to store the headset once the shelve is inside the cupboard and you have only access from the front and not from the top.
You shouldn't keep your PS5 in closed space. The console needs some fresh air.
Yeah. It gets air when it needs it, not run with doors closed. Ventilation is planned but it's doing ok.
Up until 1:45 into this video, I was genuinely concerned that Bob's left eyebrow was trying to escape from his head
You are sneakily creating, piece by piece, your own Storm Trooper, aren't you?
Shhhhhh!!!
you can still make it lighter, follow engineering rules. for reducing weight to metal I beams with punch outs. even with your own logo.
Nice!
18:10 "Drill some holes, pound some pegs"
How do you use that thing?
If I could find a PSVR2, I would love to get something like this!
Loving this vr headset though it is rough on the back of my head and I wear it correctly but dam after like 5 min it's killing the back of my head probably cause there is little to no padding idk to be honest
me, judging your game shelf:
lots of LEGO. i approve
For a while there it could be an awesome snake design with two big fangs
did it work okay with the fact the headset strap is adjustable? i'd imagine if you take it off by extending it all the way it wont fit properly...
Usually when you extend it fully to take it off you don't leave it fully extended. Once you extend the strap, it only locks in place when you turn the dial, which most people only do to tighten it onto their head.
1:42 lol
can you design one for the Oculus?
Out of shear curiosity, do you have a script you go off of, or even cue cards at anytime?
nope!
"Hi I'm Bob and I need to get a cat tree so my cats stop destroying my couch"
That unwieldy Thrustmaster HOTAS stuffed in that cabinet is triggering my PTSD and making me want to go home and organize.
Great vid, just one question since itâs not clear to me. Whoâs the consumer?
Jk long time fan keep you the good work
if your trying to get rid of that 4k short throw projector from how many episodes ago ill be glad to take it off your hands haha
strange, why didn't you add the pins in your 3D model for the back piece?
Forgot to mention that but it was actually because of the amount of support material that would have been required based on the preferred print orientation đđŒ Saved about 35 minutes by printing it flat on the back
@@Iliketomakestuff makes sense!
It's been a week since I got my psvr2. The controllers have been f'ed since day one. Buttons and analog don't work while in game.. But works fine on the ps home menu..
I waited for the update.. But didn't fix anything. Should I just send it in now for a replacement?
that's a bummer! I haven't had any hardware issue, but yes, I would get replacements asap!
If you told me this was an official PlayStation accessory, I would totally believe you. That looks awesome!!
Cardboard the orginal lCAD aka Cardboard Aided Design
What brand are those docking stations for the controllers?
Proprietary Playstation mate, should be able tp get through Sony or anywhere that sells the PSVR2 đ
@@MrDICKO80 đ No, the charging stands for the dualsense controllers
Thatâs what he was referring to. You can get them on the Sony site.
@@MileHighMonroe No, those are not the same, I have the ones from Sony. The stands in the video has animated front plates, the ones from Sony does not have that.
I bet the console gets hotter inside that cabinet lol. Need to cut a hole in the back of it so the hot air isn't being pulled back into the front again cause it needs cooler air circulation. My PS5 sits in the open and it's like a heater blowing out the back so being in a cabinet would be like putting your PS5 in front of a heater which isn't good.
