Single mother of 2, packs up her kids, moves to LA and starves for a few years, then, BIG TIME!! The woman is amazing, and still is to this day. MARTHA DAVIS. A force to be reckoned
If I married her she wouldn’t have to change her name because we share it. Love this song till I leave this world.
She believed in her dream.
After those born in the 50's, 60's and 70's it's a shame music like this will be forgotten. When Music was music.

Graduated in ‘83, and remember the feelings like it was yesterday. I turned 21 in 1985 and it was such an amazing time to come of age with Madonna, Prince and Michael Jackson having a huge impact on music. Today’s world is a hot mess compared to when I joined the Army, graduated college and got married. The world I knew is gone, sadly…

Yeah, relatively peaceful times when I was young. Our generation sure produced some phenomenal music.

Just another example of the great tunes from the 80s. I had forgotten about this gem.
Music in the 1980s sucked. Just ask anyone who lived thru the 1960s.

What a great gem from the 80s. It takes me back to my 20s, and I’m 65 now. Thanks for posting.
My very first cassette tape was a Solid Gold Hits from 1983 which included some great bands. I played this song on my Pioneer radio cassette player that my dad bought me. In fact we bought the radio cassette player and the cassette tape at the same time. Because he thought I’d play the music too loud, he asked about a head set. Those days they were chunky but the quality was superb. This song was so much of my life growing up, at the time I was 14. My father has gone now, too soon. Miss you dad! I learnt so much from you, and I’ll never forget that day when we bought that sound system. ❤❤❤❤beautiful memories.
Beautiful
Amazing how simple and effective the guitar and sax leads are. Hits you in the heart everytime.
Huey Lewis made it work too....
@@masterspin7796.. Very true. Great example
Agreed 110%. A “good” guitar solo should always serve and complement THE SONG it’s in, not itself. This solo truly does that imho, and then does the most perfect handoff to the Sax which follows suit and together, bring the song to its emotional peak, and then back to the Chorus. This is one of those songs that are just so good. They thankfully never go away.
There's a lot to be said for "leaving space" between notes
@@jim2lane Absolutly. Jerry Garcia and the Grateful Dead were masters of this.

I saw them at the coffee house on the Stanford campus just as this album was catching on. They were very late and super apologetic about it, then gave one of the best shows I’ve ever seen to an audience of about 100. She was very charismatic and, yes, sounded every bit as good live as on the record, if not better.
You sae history
Must have been pretty cool!
Was that around the time John Elway was at Stanford?
I had the hugest crush on Martha back then, and her voice so melts me ❤❤❤
Wow, a performance doesn't get any better than this! What a gem!
It's the record. Not live.
@@ulphil08 it's live
It's hard to tell, but I think it's the recording. They were professional enough to match everything they did on the record without actually playing. Although I'd prefer a real performance, including flaws, a popular group like that wouldn't risk making mistakes or being mixed badly because the general populace is enticed more by "perfection" than reality.
No, it is not!@@joejones9520

My generation knew how to make music! Man, I miss the 80s!
Probably not as much as I miss the 70's 😊
Never get tired hearing this. Takes me back to summer nights cruising in the 80's❤
This was when music was real and the lyrics and composition was superb in the 1980's! What an era of music of which many of us shall never forget that lived during this "Special" time in music history. One of my teammates in H.S. personally knew the Merv Griffin family as they were close friends with the family in New Jersey during the mid 1970's!
The motels they are phenomenal Great lead guitarist the rhythm is wonderful in this particular song the sax player great and that pretty little baby's got a beautiful the motels great 🎶🎵🎶🎵🎶🎵🎶🎵🎶🎵🎵🎵✌️
I was there, loved it then….in retrospect the 8os were absolutely terrible, so plastic and synthy after 1982. Now, I realize the 197os was absolute quality.
@@11dsw ~ Agree with your assessment of 80s music, which with few exceptions, was nothing but trash. All Big Hair, Spandex & Drum Machines. None of it could hold a candle to the 1960s. Motown alone blew the doors off the 1980s.

1983, I graduated from college. The world looked good and things were looking up. 41 years of battles and fights, scars and bruises, the body and soul aren't very good anymore, but this song remains wonderful and reminds me of some of my last happy days in school going to a club dancing with a pretty gal to this song.

I always loved this song, so beautiful. And Martha Davis's voice, so lovely. 💕
Born in 62, this music makes part of my life
I find it so hard to believe that this song is now over 40 years old. We were all in High School back then or just young adults. I don't think the 1980's truly went away......it's more a situation that our generation just all grew up, that's all. We went on to have relationships, were married, had and raised kids, bought homes. and some of us focused on our careers. And now when we take the time to look back at that time in life, we remember just how great it was being young with all of the music back then. Being nostalgic is a good thing. While the 1980's have "technically" passed, we are still a part of that decade and we "all" were the 1980's. We all lived them, and will always have the memories of a better time gone by.
All these years later when they hit that “come on here we go” part it still gives me shivers
I was 20 in 1982 when this song came out. It's still one of my all time favorite songs. For me, it was one that defined the decade.
Some say I wish I could go back, I say I’m glad I experienced what I did and have great memories. Back then I wondered what I’d become - today I’m grateful for a life full of wonderful family and great friends. God Bless.
The music of today doesn’t come close. Mature timeless quality sound to this song!
That singer so knows how to play to a crowd. Not only are her vocals one of a kind stellar, but those Betty Boop facial expressions, quirky glances & those moments of euphoria when she's lost in a verse... how can you not fall in love with her. That was the good ole days when every component of the song from the synth to the high-hats made them the enigma they were. Makes me mad that the label didn't give them more latitude (and a little $$$) to give us more. They had it in them.
Seriously, she should be on legendary status like Stevie Nicks or Grace Slick, and this band should have been huge.
You describe her perfectly, its how I always envisioned her.
Insane energy levels. I come back here every couple of months to recharge my batteries 🤗🤗😍😍

The 80's. Goodness, what great music.
Amazing live performance! So faithful to the studio version. I should have seen them live, now I’m kicking myself.
I think I’m slow 🤣 I realize now this is lip-synched.
Hate to break it to you, this was a lip synched performance. The drummer played along, but the rest were 'unplugged'. If you REALLY knew the song, you'd have realized this 'p[erformance' was note for note off the album.
I like this tune. My favorite song 🎵

The 80's were fun, was a totally different time almost an innocent time compared to now. Worked hard after graduating from college in 81. Partied just as hard in those years then back to work, being young you could do that. Had kids in the late 80's, what a great era !

Anyone who was a teenager at this time remembers their heart aching
I was in Junior High when this hit the airwaves on rock radio in Montreal. Listening today brings me bittersweet memories because of my isolation in the Dark Forests of the Laurentiens Mountains (with no hope of having a "Local" girlfriend). My Loneliness "...Up Here..." ( North of Montreal) was several levels more profound then the original the lyrics. Well at least She "had" somebody to sing about i said to myself at the time... But thank you Martha FOR pouring your soul into "THE Song" Along with you Band Mates... For me to sing along to the Best classic song of all time about our personal struggles with Loneliness. BTW my first Girlfriend while i was in University (in Montreal) eventually passed away of cancer in our twenties. Karma is a Bitch.
