The Ultimate Rotary engine - BILLET 4-Rotor | fullBOOST

- Perhaps one of the most sought after Japanese engines of all time, the Mazda 4-rotor isn’t even a production rotary engine. Mazda built them as a race only application in 13J and 26B variants. The latter version powered the famous Group C 787B Mazda, winning the 1991 24 Hours of Le Mans outright. Nowadays however it’s not uncommon to see these custom engines powering a street car, due to not only the performance aspect, but their unmistakable sound. We caught up with the team at Promaz while they pieced together this little gem of an engine. | www.promaz.com.au

4 rotor p port
Mine
The one at the rotissery chicken shop! Just keeps spinnin' lol 🤣
@Mcgoogoo Damn! You beat me to it. I was going to say exactly the same thing!
My ultimate favourite rotary engine is the one that has had an LS swap! FTW!
You can hear the sincerity in Simon's voice when he thanks his entire team and sponsors for making everything come together. He's a class act. I miss both my RX-7's but mostly the 79.
Don't miss mine having rebuilt the engine twice.
I absolutely love how Simon is just straight up honest and not afraid to give his opinion on things. Love the discussions you guys had on this video.
Got to give you credit Fullboost, you get some of the nicest people who are more than happy to share their wealth of knowledge. Genuine people.
I'm an old rotary engine specialist from the 70s. Thank you for the detail and conversation in this video. It really brought me back to my days with Mazda.
What a legend this bloke is. Polite and calmly spoken, happy to share his knowledge and a few little tricks of the trade, even goes out of his way to be as relateable as possible.
I felt the same way
watching this guy at work, with his silky voice, is like ASMR.
........ and he likes RX8's 👍
Great built, however, I'd love to see them running after the built is completed. That would be the icing on the cake :0)
I have a running 4 rotor on my channel, it’s wild!
@@mazdamedia5995 subscribed immediately
that's where the rubber meets the road.
Everytime i see pro rotary build videos, it look like they r doing it in a doctors office.
We used to stack them together on empty 35 gallon drums outside in the sun
You can tell how much profit margin and room for competition there is by how the shop looks. If it looks like a doctor's office they are price gouging insanely and an open market for easy competition!
Go on then bud
@@illbeyourmonster3591 Fallacy! First you have to clean up the shed, which in your case may take up to a week. And then you can do the work in a week, which now, with all your gang, takes a month. As long as you keep thinking the way you are doing now, you will be a poor bastard. Sorry!

@@michielnoback4359 I'm suspecting that didn't translate properly. 🙄
Mega engine, mega coverage. Thanks a lot guys
Thanks for the update and video, as always a pleasure seeing Simon put a rotary together. Memories of my rotaries I owned, rx2 rx4 and 5.
This rivals the Mine's stuff i watched on the GT channel. Love to see the veterans kick knowledge. So valued
I could listen to that engine builder all day, he has a calmness about him. He would be an excellent coach and is an artist at his craft. Reminds me of the Bob Ross of engine building, minus the wild hair. This guy does excellent work!
"There's not too many cars you're gonna fit 6 rotors in..."
Anything that can fit a 2K Barra will fit a 6 rotor, or atleast come very close. 😛
Don't think there would be much difference.
He was refering to cars people might want to own. 🤣🔥🔥👉
@@fullboost So a Renault is out of the question? 🤣👍
@ChrisHallett83 If they can fit a 6 rotor in a damn RX4 then it will fit anywhere a 2K Barra can. 😎👍
@@MafiaboysWorld Anything fits if you drop it from high enough. And they prolly cut out most of the firewall for the rx4
no bullshit just pure rotary talk, big ups boys
I’m just here for all the Rob Dahm related comments 🍿 😂
Here’s one, fuck Rob Dahm 😬
hahaha no pressure
@@RobDahm o shit what you think rob?
@@Sausketo of the engine? Simon and that team know their shit. I approve. But they don’t need my approval haha
@@RobDahm I tough you died under that lift
I'm really happy to watch him assemble rotary engines, thanks for sharing!
I bought a new RX2 in 1973. It was a screamer for 2 rotors. It was billed as an economy car. The best gas mileage I got was 13.5 MPG. I severely abused that engine and it never busted. Slipped my foot of the clutch at 7,000 RPM. And occasionally miss shifted to third and hit 11,000 RPM. It never broke. But the clutch wore out several times. As did the skinny 13 inch tires.
As a former 1980 rx7 road race crew chief, who has torn down and rebuilt a bunch of 12as, this video is inspiring, and that engine looks freaking amazing. Nice work!
I love how beautifully simple rotaries are. No valves, gears or pushrods; just block, crank and rotors.
I was just thinking the same exact thing as I was watching this video. I've built a handful of racecars and did all the engine assembly except for the things that I needed the machine shop for. What an amazingly simple setup!!!
im simple I have an Rx7, I like Rx7's and rotaries!! If I see a rotary video, I click
Nice video - it's watching an artist at work. Even the explanations are humble and you can tell they're from experience. Really enjoying that he's in a clean workshop but doesn't wear gloves.. that's the real guru business right there
As of 12/2020 mazda announced that they will be making new parts for rx7s again.
I loved my 13b rx3 I had as my first car. Damm I wish I still had that little bastard. Makes me so happy to see a craftsman putting so much love into his work
This makes me want to revisit the dark side.
As someone who saw what you did with the HB Cosmo back in the day Lance...DO IT DO IT DO IT DO IT DO IT DO IT!! 😈👍😁
Don't do it Lance!
I don't know what you did with the HB Cosmo, but I echo MafiaboysWorld, Do it!
We have a hybrid lightside now
I’m not even into rotaries but I feel like he is the man to talk to.
Simon is a top bloke - thanks for sharing.... Nice tidy edit too :)
I've been binge watching every video 4 rotor and 787 related. Am I going crazy?
I know little about rotary engines, however that was a good presentation. Nice Work.
I’m so happy to see people still exploring these smooth compact powerful emission engines ..fascinating
Beautiful engineering, beautiful machine work!!!
Man there are some brilliant people out there and your one of them just awesome
I'm a V8 type of guy, but these engines are so interesting. Billet aluminum always looks good. Awesome looking engine!!!
Unbelievable thank uou for the video it was a pleasure to view !
Its so cool to see engines being built 😎👍🏼
This guy is a legend 😊
Great video! If possible you should get a tour of BilletPro to see how it's all made ! Absolutely top content ! What cameras did you use for this video?
There is some footage of some of their product being manufactured in this video. This video was shot using a Sony compact camera. Cheers.
If you look you will find videos showing them machining an end plate setup on CZcams mate
Exceptional job lads, what a work of art. Wish I could afford on of these.
WOW 13J R26B 4 ROTORS ROTARY ENGINE BY BILLET PRO SO SWEET ENT
Funny looking packet of chips. I dig it. It still blows my mind, that you can just keep stacking them together.
I use to have a 87 RX7, and I am impressed. Subscribed.
Wow stunning I been introduced to rotary engines on Thursday and haven’t stopped thinking about her I want rotary in my life.🥰
Another great video. Thanks for the rotary content
Quad stacked Billet Dorito yes please. I like mine spicy👍😂
I love Australian ingenuity. Keep up the good work.
What a work of art the Billet 26B is, no mention of the matching price tag to match 🔥
30-40k my guess
@@chunkycheese73 100k
10A would be an interesting one for sure! Not a rotor man but love the in depth content!
Amazing machine work. Billet pro is amazing.
Would love to see a 10a build. Always been curious and super rare now.
👍🏽
A beautiful work of art.
I love this builder. Simon has it together,. I would love to spend a day with this guy.
Such a beautiful engine. I hope whoever it goes to truly enjoys it... I've always personally wanted a 3 rotor with either high compression and low boost or low compression and all the Boost. But they're made of unobtainium for us mere commoners.
Not really , people blow that same amount making forged internals
Nice build its going to sound amazing
What a beautiful piece of work ;)
This is the 5th time I had watched this video. I can't get enough. If I win a lottery...
A doritos commercial was played right before this video started.... I've never seen a more appropriately timed advertisement in my entire life.
Well done and fair play fellas.
everybody gangsta till rob dahm pulls up in a turbo billet 6 rotor lambo diablo with awd
He speaks so calmly I love it😂
Boost fixes everything i agree😂😂 Greetings from South Africa. Im installing a 13B in my Fiat x19. Can't wait to braaaaappp
Very good job man very good job
Very neat and clean setup
can't wait to have mine built 👍👍
*_There was actually a 12 rotor engine built._*
Not too much people know about it but it is sick!
Thx .you are an inspiration man x
Love listening to this master of his craft, fulfilled life of doing what he loves. For all the rotary guys in the comment section, I came from the liquid piston engine to this. How come nobody sized that thing up? Seems like the next big step in the evolution of rotary engines. Would love to hear your opinions on that. If you don’t know just CZcams it there is more and more content coming up.
That will be an outstanding little screamer.
4:22 "What's that part you dropping in?"
me: THE DORITO!!😎
Keen to see the 10a build now
Great always wondered how they went together 👌🏻
a work of art!
Rotaries are so simple and so beautiful.
That is a piece of art. Im afraid to even venture a guess on what that engine sells for
Stunning!
Great vid, very interesting .
Please show the 10a build! That would be an awesome video.
....soooo nice , priseis Parts !!! I 'm soooooooo impresst !!!!! BIG COMPLIMENT !!! kinde regards from Switzerland !!!
one day i’ll be able to afford one :) till then i’ll watch and enjoy
4 rotor??? LET'S GO!! MORE 4 ROTORRRS ON HE STREETSS THE BETTER LIFE IS
Huge respect.
In a few words..its art..
Thank you
wow nice build
Keep stacking.
Man, Simon seems like such a cool dude
I need these guys to build me 13b boost ready motor.
Is there any way to track where this Engine ended up? pics/ vids/ links etc.. Beautiful engine and wonderful video.
iv got the wrench, 1976 , started my time. . bloody good unit, its part of me now,
I got a Warren and Brown tension wrench in 1979.
I need one of these.
Rotaries are so damn cool!
cool rewiev👍
Theres a side here in America working on a full billet engine. Billet housings & billet roters, I'm excited to see how it works out with the billet roters.
Yes its good to see people are going to be making these engine parts for a long time to come.
had an RX-7 with a 13B... 22 MPG, easy oil change, filter on top of the engine, and easy tune up.... had it 8 years.... should have kept it.......
How does a custom twin rotor compare to a standard 13B engine in terms of longevity? I used to own rotaries in the past and the apex seals going at 50K mileage for 13B RX3 was the issue. Do the unbreakable apex seals allow more kilometres from the engine?
This guy's is very good.
from puerto rico good information!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
damm thats some sexy engineering. The rotary has so many pluses for motorsports. Having said that I remember back when the first rx-7's came out and a young bloke in the motorcycle club got one, all us teenagers came and drooled over it and my older sister came over and said" nice car why did you get a sheila stick". It was a bloody auto lol.
This guy seems so calm. Very little stress in his life.
Im starting to get a scary fascination to the rotary engines.
Fantastic
