Have two identical clean bottles. Dump old fluid into 1 bottle. Pour new fluid in another identical bottle to the same level and then fill back into vehicle. That way you always have exactly the same fluid out/in and never are over or under.

I like this method for tranny with no drain plug...
I have also used cheap Sifon hose with little hand pump with much success.. measure what came out, refill..
Open your differential fill bolt and use a straw to check fluid level and color..
I would suggest looking for penzoil ultra platnum or something better on sake half price and stock up..
Your method also works with power steering and coolant to keep them fresh.. every year change a little and it stays fresh and avoids corrosion in the system..

Yes, this is a less messy way to drain some fluid and remove the pan, but I would recommend changing the filter every time.

Change the filter at manufacture recommended intervals but vacuum/replace the fluid in between.

I just did this on my ford e350 worked great. about a quart and a a half replaced. How quickly do you think I can go on to do it again to optimize fluid replacement? Do you think driving it a mile down the road and back is enough for it to be fully mixed in?

So it does no completely drains the trans

of course not, he is just replacing fluid from the pan. there is more in the actual transmission

If you have a transmission filter it needs to be replaced at some point

so you are only removing 1 quart at a time? I think thats not efficient

He could easily have pumped out more. He could also do this while he is changing his oil. Minimizes time inefficiency…as long as he doesn’t pour the wrong fluid into the wrong container. 😏

Why do you change just one quart and why do you need to change level if you pour the same amount of new fluid?

He is worried that the transmission fluid has been neglected and that it may start slipping if changed out all of the transmission fluid at once. So he is taking out a little at a time to see if its going to slip or not. If the transmission fluid change makes the transmission slip, he might be able to buy himself some time before he has to replace it.
