    Man my first thought was, why the hell is he forging a banana and even bend it more like a banana. Aren't seaxes to be meant to be straight in some way. But then I was pleasantly surprised that while you hammered in the bevels you naturally worked against that bend they would cause. So a pretty smart move. I've only seen it the other way around. Hammer in the bevels and then smack the hell out of it with the knives back on the anvil. Just a suggestion, I am in no way a pro at this, but I've learned in my few forging sessions to always clean the surface of the anvil after my forging heat cycle while the workpiece is in the forge. Because that forging scale can leave nasty imprints on you hammer an mishits and in your workpiece. Just as an idea. 😊

      As i was forging, i had Sam Towns' words ringing in my ears "preform, preform, preform!" Ha ha glad you liked that bit. Yeah there were a few times i left the scale on the anvil i did see that. I normally do clean it off, i dont even know why i didnt those few times to be honest with you. In a headspace i suppose. Thanks for the reminder!

      @@SpeargrassForge can't wait to see the finished seax. I didn't forge a single piece so far in my workshop, so I see myself still as a rookie 🤣 I just absorb all kind of techniques and tips and tricks. Forging seems to be a ever learning quest and journey. And that is what I like about it. With every piece you find new ways to gorge it better, more efficient, more beautiful. And this preform technique is really amazing. Can't wait to watch all the patreon step by step videos from Sam.

    Great looking knife! Out of curiosity why aren't you using the charcoal forge?

    • @SpeargrassForge
      @SpeargrassForge  Před 4 lety

      Simply because i needed to test the reline of the gas forge mate. I intend to make another seax on the stake anvil i made using the charcoal forge, but it will take me longer i am presuming
