    I just use straight up jojoba oil for my nail oil (thanks Simply!!) and it has saved my nails from breaking countless times. I always get asked how I keep my nails so long since I work at a restaurant and use my hands all the time.

  • @AlyenaMango

    Great video as always Natasha :)
    What's also really important to know is that not everyones nails are the same, and you might have to try out and adjust things. For example, I used to wipe my nails with alcohol before painting them but it didn't improve weartime. What I found out works better on my nails is if i first put on tons of jojoba oil and let it soak in for half an hour. Then I wash my nails with soap and water and let them air dry for about 5-10 minutes, and then I paint them. Even though this goes against all "rules", it just works best for me.

    It wasn’t until this video that I realized how long I’ve been watching u 😂 you were the first nail person to say (in a what video I can’t remember) that you shouldn’t be using low grit nail files. Like you didn’t deep dive but once you said it I went to Sally’s and have been using the same file for YEARS! Mine is Tropical Shine medium 220/320 and it’s perfect for my nails gets the job done quick harmless. I have really long natural nails so I swear by this file to not cause breakages

    Tfs. Ty so much for explaining about the soaking in water bowls. I can't keep count of how many "day spas" insist on having their clients soak their fingers in finger bowls of either soapy water or water with denture tablets. They will do this for nail laquer manis, but not for gel polish manis. I don't like to do it for any mani because of everything that you just mentioned. I was told that, if I want to keep my employment, soaking the fingers in the finger bowl will soften the cuticle and make for a better mani. Ugh. These "day spas" need to watch your video. Lol

    Very informative! Great video! when I do a fresh mani and do my cuticles I apply cuticle oil before I apply polish is that wrong? I still clean the nail of oil. The biggest issue I have is bubbles! I often get little bubbles as my polish coats normals in my top coat but also in base coat and color. I usually rub them out with acetone on my girl never then apply another coat but that doesn’t always work and I have start all over.

    This has been unbelievably helpful! I do have a couple questions though. I'm dealing with some health issues (Ehlers-Danlos Syndrome) that are causing malabsorbtion, so my nails are suffering horribly😨 They're deeply ridged, brittle, some are thin, I have 'hang nails' on almost all 10 fingers, and if they aren't breaking, they're peeling. As a licensed stylist, I have access to, and use quality products. What can you recommend, if anything, to help? Also, I've had issues with petty much any type of polish peeling off after 5-7 days, regardless of how tedious I prep. Ideas?

    I have found your videos to be very helpful. Thank you! I already have another career, but am really loving doing my own nails right now. So not likely I’ll ever go to school to become a nail tech. Do you have some more tips on how I can keep better at doing my own nails? I’m really interested in hand-painted art, although I’m enjoying nail stamping too. Also, is it possible to recreate certain looks with regular polish that seem to only be available with gel polish? I’m thinking of the look that’s possible with blooming gel, or is there a way to create depth with layers of glitter and flakies like you can do with gel polish. Any insights you can share would be very appreciated. Or maybe you could advise on how to get started doing your own gel nails at home, including decent products available to the public and not just pros. I only want to do that if there is a way to not hurt my nails.

    I just discovered your channel, and I enjoy your content very much 🤩
    I wanted to add one item to your list: personally, not only do I cap my nails - when doing the base and the top I always paint the underside of my nails for added protection (after I give them a thorough cleanup).
    Maybe I'm wrong, but I feel its protecting my nails much more. Plus, the nail polish lasts even longer than with simple capping.

  • @saravartiainen
    @saravartiainen Před 6 lety

    I have a problem with capping the tip with gel polish. Sometimes the gel polish doesn't stay at the tip and I don't think it's because shrinking since the polishes I use don't do that on a nail plate... And as I prep my nails I file the tips just a bit to get that little ruffness going on. Good video, thanks!😊

    Thanks Natasha that was really useful advice & as a nail tech & teacher for about 40yrs I always advise my clients on all that you've just said - HOWEVER your explanation was so much clearer & better than any I've ever given, it was not overly intelligent, (lol I'm not getting at you) but some of our clients, including some of our brighter clients, simply don't get what I mean about the importance of the 10 things your mentioned. I'm sorry lovely lady but I'm gonna copy some of your sentences, because surely even the dopiest of folk could understand them. No disrespect meant to any of my ladies or any other's, but your a nail tech & you know how hard it can be sometimes to get through to them. Oh how I wish you'd make dvd's that we could buy to aid in teaching not just clients, but perhaps more importantly when used in a classroom situation. I only do 1on1 as I feel it benefits the student more, so having you, as it were, in my class would be so advantages. Please forgive the length of this message but there are some things one cannot say in two or three lines. More of the same please, because no matter how long one's been doing nail's we can still learn & Natasha at 74 years old & running my own salon & teaching, I still love learning. Xv once again I'm sorry again this is so long.

    I've started doing my own nails aft home with a dip acrylic by ASP.
    I'm getting lift after a few days. I've prepped my nails and used a dehydrator before starting, but nothing is helping. Any suggestions?

    Can I just use pure jojoba oil as cuticle oil? Or should I mix it with vitamin e? ❤️

    • @stefalspaugh5362
      @stefalspaugh5362 Před 6 lety +1

      Yasmin Grasse you can use pure jojoba oil and see amazing results!!! Adding vitamin e may add to the effect but it depends on its ability to soak into the nail, that vitamin e may just aid the cuticle area and dry skin if the molecules are too big to absorb 🙂😘

    Great tips! I've had such troubl using my debit card. The one time my husband asks if I can go inise the store to pull money out of an ATM and you kind gotta push the card in and pull it out pretty fast and I could not for the life of me get it out. I asked a lady and she was so nice about it. She giggled and said it happens to her all the time with her nails done haha.... but then I realized after she left that I still needed money and it didn't work because I took too long.. had to call the cashier to swipe it for me i was so embarrassed and grateful even tho they didn't seem to mind at all. Now I never use ATM or use it to pump gas into the car I make my husband swipe it before I do that lol it was so has and my fingers hurt becauae I tried using my knuckles, different angles and nothing works. My nails are too long haha! Also I know this is weird but I live your voice lol it's so calming and nice to listen to.

    Does the cuticle oil not cause the polish to chip? I'm told to dehydrate before applying to avoid chips and lifting. I use it when I have polish on but I didnt realise it was carried up the nail- perhaps what's what's causing my chips. My nails are oily anyway and regular polish chips off even with a dehydrator in less than a day, but I can keep gels on a week!

    I was always told a 240 nail file was not enough to properly prep the nail for acrylic or gel application is this not correct? I was always told 180 very very lightly one diwnward direction

    Great information thank you Natasha. Just a quick question why do I always get bits of skin at side of nails and of course I pull them what can I do? Please

    • @CelticLulu
      @CelticLulu Před 6 lety

      Nail oil will help with those bits of dry skin. If you do get it though, IMO I would cut it off using those cuticle cutter... things! 😂 I use a bit of nail oil. Let it soak a bit then cut off the dead skin. I never pull at it. Use the cutter. If it doesn’t get it the first time just cut again. Never cut then pull. Ouch!!!

    • @SCSilk
      @SCSilk Před 6 lety

      I know it’s so tempting but don’t pull them. Your skin is dry. Cuticle oil will prevent this.
      I used to have a very bad problem with this. Now I use oil 5-10 times a day. Reaching for the oil instead of pulling/cutting/biting will keep your fingers pretty.
      Also, do not let nail techs cut your cuticles or the side skin. It will also make the skin raggedy.

      Sometimes I use a high grit file to smooth out the skin, followed by lots of oil.

    Excellent tips that every nail lovers should know. 👍🏼 I really like how you described #10: “Nails should be treated as jewels not tools.” ❤️ That’s exactly how I think of my nails. Especially when I paint my nails, it’s like you’re wearing jewelry only in your nails. 💅🏼💎 Awesome video. Thanks. ❤️

    Let me add a corollary to #10: get enough sleep! You’ll be less apt to be careless and bang your nail into something if you aren’t sleepy.
    I learned this the hard way. :(

    My nails looks as if you have been putting them trough a sawingmashine and after that taken a needel and stamped small dots, they do also break on the tips. Why ?
