I've been a bass player for just over 40 years, some of that time as a full time professional. I can honestly say that Gail is amazing as a bass player and also as a vocalist. She's got such a lovely touch on bass.
This song is carved into my heart. My wife and I saw it on our first date. The movie was crap but we kissed continually for 90 minutes to one of the best soundtracks ever. Because of this song I'll never forget it. Thank you David for the memory. Tell Jesus I'm sorry and I'll see you both soon.

Just RIP David, you were one of the best interpreter of all times. All songs that you made and gave us was a true master piece! We all will miss you, thanks a lot!😎
What an amazing song. Those lyrics cut deep like surgeons, you really feel what he's saying about being naive and not knowing what the proper next step is. David Bowie's music was a transcending element of beauty, art, feelings and pure balls that no singer has today!!!!!
Love how he smiles so much while singing through this, the love shines through. That bounce of his fist at 2:55 in rhythm also reflect his enthusiasm for this song. Always been one of my personal favorites. Garson always brings so much to the table with his ivory skills. Such a great piece. Leaves me smiling, that's all I really need.
What a band this was.🔥 Garson's piano and Earl Slick's guitar elevate this way beyond the studio version IMO. The more I listen, the more it becomes apparent how great a song this is. In a period where his work was at its most patchy, he comes up with something beautiful and very moving.❤️
Lost my beautiful wife in 2001. I thought I had no tears left, but after the sad news of David I realise I do have tears...lots of tears. Been playing "Heroes" a lot and welling up. Don't ask why but I only just found this extraordinary performance, and the emotive lyrics, and astonishing musicianship and passion in David's performance, and whilst reading all the comments have reduced me to a blubbering wreck! Just reading your post Rio. I hope things are better for you today. Brillant song this from Bowie. Music has a way of bringing our emotions out and has a way taking us to a time of when things were special in our life. Be strong tho it's not easy. But, we will all meet again one day after we have departed this life. For sure!!!
+janis crutchfield Same. Our 5-year-old now finishes the lyrics for us if we spontaneously start singing something under our breath. It's always, always a Bowie song.
+tellingpool My two girls do the same too, especially the youngest, almost 3 years old. That makes me happy and so very sad at the same time... Thank you David, for all the magic you left for us.
Such a sunny smile he gives when he sings - nothing more beautiful than genius with kindness and he gave a beautiful witness this is possible in !modern music too.❤🎆
Reading all these comments about our dear David's death, makes me tearful - it's all too much. We just need to love one another - we are all on this planet together at this moment in time. Let's celebrate that. RIP David.
Such a phenomenal band at this time. Gail Ann Dorsey is amazing and so cool. Mike Garson always blows my mind, beautiful piano runs and he rarely plays anything exactly the same twice being an amazing improvisor.
There are many reasons I don't believe Bowie was human. One of them is that he looked better and better with every decade that passed. Did he really die, or did he just return to his home planet?
@@shaunsanders588 The bassline through the whole song is amazing.Lets not Forget Earl Slick,And Mark Platti.I have listened to a lot of Music, for a lot of years,(And I love Mick Ronson) But this might be the Tightest Band ever to play with Bowie.
MikeGarson got plenty of coverage in the musical section of Bowie tribute at the Brits. And it was an absolutely brilliant tribute with some of Bowie's most consistent backup performers, and Lorde dressed in tribute to the Thin White Duke.
Recuerdo cuando salió la película, allá por los años 80. Aquel día escapé de clase para verla. En el cine conocí a la chica más maravillosa del mundo. Rock in Peace, David! ❤

There's nothing much to take
I'm an absolute beginner
But I'm absolutely sane
As long as we're together
The rest can go to hell
I absolutely love you
But we're absolute beginners
With eyes completely open
But nervous all the same
If our love song
Could fly over mountains
Could laugh at the ocean
Just like the films
There's no reason
To feel all the hard times
To lay down the hard lines
It's absolutely true
Nothing much could happen
Nothing we can't shake
Oh, we're absolute beginners
With nothing much at stake
As long as you're still smiling
There's nothing more I need
I absolutely love you
But we're absolute beginners
But if my love is your love
We're certain to succeed
If our love song
Could fly over mountains
Sail over heartaches
Just like the films
If there's reason
To feel all the hard times
To lay down the hard lines
It's absolutely true

Just reading your post Rio. I hope things are better for you today. Brillant song this from Bowie. Music has a way of bringing our emotions out and has a way taking us to a time of when things were special in our life. Be strong tho it's not easy. But, we will all meet again one day after we have departed this life. For sure!!!
Beautiful words my friend, as long as you still smiling!
This song with the absolute is absolutely incredible, Bowie is a God
I think this whole BBC performance was perfection - the band, the vibe from the audience and Bowie is in perfect voice
I agree WHOLEHEARTEDLY!
Beautiful Bowie, Ah what a beautiful Singer, Mover, Man, Always Go on as that Beautiful Star Man, Love Bowie Forever xx
"As long as you still smiling thats all I really need, I absolutely love you" what a man....
Here is a man who reinvented himself every few years ... I did like this era.
What a performance.
The way he looks up at his wife and says ‘I do’ at 4’20’’ is so beautiful ❤
One month, five days and I have barely listened to anyone besides Bowie. He was part of my life for 43 years. He was like family. ⚡️❤️
+janis crutchfield I've been starting every day with a Bowie song lately... like good medicine :)
+janis crutchfield , exactly the same..
+janis crutchfield Same here. I couldn't pass a day without him.......
Thank you David, for all the magic you left for us.
breathtaking performance
Such a sunny smile he gives when he sings - nothing more beautiful than genius with kindness and he gave a beautiful witness this is possible in !modern music too.❤🎆
Bowie surrounded himself with the best musicians, he demanded perfection and he delivered
cant understand why 408 people would dislike this.......such a heartfelt performance
1.3 k Assholes.
If you hear what's in the charts these days, you understand it
Don't worry. there are always stupid people
Troglodytes
How many people were here? 100?200? They were very lucky to enjoy this intimate concerts of >
That’s exactly what I was thinking...and how about his band members? Surrounded by loveliness every time they got together! What experience ❤️
I was there and front row :) 15 years later this song was first dance at my wedding...
Still ABSOLUTELY loving this in 2022!!! As long as you're still smiling, that's all I really need!
This is a wonderful version. I am so happy i discovered it.
I love this song
Reading all these comments about our dear David's death, makes me tearful - it's all too much. We just need to love one another - we are all on this planet together at this moment in time. Let's celebrate that.
RIP David.
The late great David Bowie at the top of his game. What a magnificent live performance!
Such a phenomenal band at this time. Gail Ann Dorsey is amazing and so cool. Mike Garson always blows my mind, beautiful piano runs and he rarely plays anything exactly the same twice being an amazing improvisor.
One of the best - and absolutely best looking - performers
There are many reasons I don't believe Bowie was human. One of them is that he looked better and better with every decade that passed. Did he really die, or did he just return to his home planet?
CRH I hope his home planet.
You are reading my mind!
He just returned to the stars :)
He just went home.
He will never die.
Lives in my heart forever 💘
Gail on bass, Mike on piano, such great musicians
..."as long as you're still smiling...that's all i really need"
Mike Garson is a gem...shining bright
Gail is a treasure
Whos the other girl?
@@shaunsanders588 The bassline through the whole song is amazing.Lets not Forget Earl Slick,And Mark Platti.I have listened to a lot of Music, for a lot of years,(And I love Mick Ronson) But this might be the Tightest Band ever to play with Bowie.
Still one of my favourites by Bowie

Love you mate. Just that. Great, unexpected, unfixable lost
RIP Mr. Bowie. Condolences to your loved ones...that would be all of us.

yeh REESPECT. imagine the stuff him,Freddie Prince & ELVIS are putting together for us up there now...🤗🤗🤗🤗🤗😘😘😘
Bowie is awesome in his interpretation but give the musicians credit too, that piano and bass sound so nice...
All the members of his band are great musician ...
Mike Garson on piano and Gail Ann Dorsey on bass !
I love listening Bowie's music ever since I was a kid, always have and always will. I'm 71 now.
Shame on all who dislike this wonderful and hearttouching song!! He is still around and no word can explain this genius of real music 😍
hai
It's that screeching wench on backing vocals who thinks she has to singer louder than Bowie who is probably responsible for people disliking it
This song is really supported me to going through this corona pandemic. Thank you David.
Will always miss him!

One of the most astonishing piano performances, and not a single shot of the guy doing it :)
Very good shot of Mike Garson from 5.20
I absolutely agree just love that piano
Ilike bowi this man sexy smile and.....
MikeGarson got plenty of coverage in the musical section of Bowie tribute at the Brits. And it was an absolutely brilliant tribute with some of Bowie's most consistent backup performers, and Lorde dressed in tribute to the Thin White Duke.
So true!
Recuerdo cuando salió la película, allá por los años 80. Aquel día escapé de clase para verla. En el cine conocí a la chica más maravillosa del mundo. Rock in Peace, David! ❤
