  • I'll walk you through some basic maintenance on a 1987 Oldsmobile Cutlass 442. We'll do a quick oil change, chassis lube, set the timing, and adjust the idle speed on the electronic Quadrajet carburetor.

    I have a GM B Model..1985 Oldsmobile Custom Cruiser Wagon with a 307 V8. My engine and transmission are about the same as your car. Except I have a big family car.

    Thank you for these videos brother i really appreciate it. I just recently picked up a 86 cutlass 307 5L Y vin project and half of the vacuum lines are missing. Im not familiar with vacuum and emissions lines. Do you think you can please make a video where u go over and explain the routing of the vacuum and emission lines? Im sure a huge amount of your viewers will benefit from that. Thank you for all your videos. I have learned so much them 🙏

    Thank you for these videos! I have a question Iv been reading about how to set the idle control motor for the low and high RPM limits but can't seem to get it right. Do you happen to know how to do that too?

      The ISC motor on the 6 cylinder motors is pretty tricky to set right. Shoot me an email at RPOrestorations@gmail.com and I'll send you the factory service procedure.

    I just stumbled upon your great vids. Question: when do you use oil vs grease vs WD40?

    • @rporestorations
      @rporestorations  Před 7 měsíci

      As a general rule: If it slides, grease it. If rolls, oil it. Door strikers and cables get grease. Hinges get oil (preferably a general purpose or motor oil) . WD-40 (because it is thin) should only be used as a last resort, if you can't get anything else into it.

    were you using synthetic oil? I know we need to use conventional oil for the Zinc content because of the flat tappets

      I sometimes use a zinc additive. You should use a zinc rich oil, but it won't kill the camshaft if you forget to add it every now and then, as long as the motor is well broken in.
