This is one of the best Mastodon songs in the last decade. Troy's vocal melody on the verses is so unique and I love it so much. Hands down my favorite track on Hushed and Grim.
Troy's voice is just so POWERFUL, even when he's not screaming. His lungs are the bellows of our inner primitive beings. I underestimated Troy years ago when I started following the band. He's an absolute legend IMO.
This is literally like if they took the first half of their discography (the golden age) and their second half ( just the other golden age) and combined the two but then added some kind of new flavoring and it’s truly blowing my mind. I fucking love this.
The new flavor is somber. It's like a reflection on what's depressing but realizing that's also something that makes life worth living. It's such an interesting album.
I only found this album yesterday. Been in an alcoholic binge for years unfortunately. Now my eyes are wide open again and this album is reviving my soul.
Who else heard “I FEEL DEPRESSIOOOOOOON” All jokes aside, this is an amazing song! I especially love the guitar riff in the chorus. I’ve been a fan of this band since I was 4; used to listen to The Hunter!
Another sinking stone Finds its way down below Resurface when only light will ever show And while I progress slow I'm soon to surpass you Entitled to all possessions I have adored I feel pressure I feel the pressure And all the faded bones Piling up high and low Returning to life once you can stand alone Don't get too close this time The depths of love haunt you It's dark inside where all my demons hide I feel pressure I feel the pressure Waiting with patience of eons Your presence fades into a memory Underneath a cloud of silence you journey into the rift Will time defy the weight of you leaving us I feel pressure I feel the pressure Hold aggression Hold aggression
This album came out a week before my dad was found dead in his home. I’ll forever associate this album with that time in my life. The tears are felt over here.
I love the band's diversity, no-one else combines influences from past decades this well but the best thing about Mastodon is you can't decide who the best vocalist is, yet the guys are all so unique. Sheer God-level brilliance but with class
So recently my old childhood friend passed away, this song was stuck in my head the whole day when I heard the news, eventually when I read the lyrics it made sense why this song tied me to him. He fades away to a memory but will never be forgotten
He's only faded from your perspective as a physical bodies being. Dud Crack the skye teach you nothing? He moved on to another dimension capable of moving the speed of light. Traveling from universe to universe. Unless your understanding of the other planes beyond our understanding, you'll think he's just gone. But that's just your perspective. Change your perspective and you'll miss your physical connection to him, but you'll realise it's so much more than that
I know, it's so good. In my opinion it's their best since Crack The Skye... And that's a bold fucking statement to make because the records in between and before it are all incredibly awesome.
Brent Hinds was taught banjo for a long time before he was allowed to get an electric guitar, so banjo playing informs a lot of what he does. Check out Fiend Without A Face (the band), that's him playing mostly instrumental bluegrass as well.
I've listened to most their youtube songs off this album and just blown away.. I will buy and even some merch. Truly a masterpiece. I'm blown away they and production made all this.. crazy good. would sound awesome live too
It beats crack the sky. More depressing and has that haunting 90s Seattle grunge vibe on parts. You hear ,little soundgarden and alice in chains sections alot of this album.
My mother died less than 6 months from this release. I went to a mastodon concert to see them live, and it was my first concert in years. I bought a poster, with a heart splurting out in blood the band name. My mother died of heart failure. When she died I felt the pressure of responsibility to bury her, my family is small and I was the only one who could afford it. I took that burden, I felt anger, and I sat alone in the dark and cried, understanding she's gone. This song was a remedy, but in fact this whole album is. I'm thankful to have experienced everything, and this song helps me work through the after effects.

3 minute mark is pure the czar vibes
And Bronn's drumming, specially on that last bridge is otherworldly
@@andrewz58 Lol if you think that's "otherworldly" playing, you haven't listened to Leviathan or Blood Mountain.
@@egorsozonov7425 ofc man, nothing will compare to those records
This track was one of the few highlights for me on this record
That Brent solo with Troy singing is... wow.
Looks like my neighbors get to check out a new Mastodon song tonight. Sweet. 🎸🎵
Lucky for them. All I get around me is fucking Mexican banda music.
Hey , neighbor here 😉
Whether they like it or not 🤣🤣🤣
@@notsure1969 At least you don't have to choke with Bad Bunny's music
I certainly hope my neighbors are enjoying it as much as I am. XD

Exactly
I'd put it and levithen as a draw as the two best mastodon albums imo. Crack the sky.....overated but good.
Welcome to the platinum age of mastadon

Quit drinking booze. Your body, mind, relationships and wallet will thank you.
@@jarlwhiterun7478 if only it were that easy
Mastodon has never released a bad album, every song has quality
literally man and you cant say that about many bands
The Hunter is my least favorite but it's still a great album.
Early stuff is weird to listen to just because the lack of Brann on vocals, but they kick ass in other ways
Everything after Blood Mountain is sellout pussy bs. This band is basically modern Metallica
I love it when Brent screams, it always makes me think of when he sang in the intro to the Aqua Teen Huner Force movie as the gumdrop guy
Who else heard “I FEEL DEPRESSIOOOOOOON”

Thought the same thing
Me! So then i checked the lyrics and i was like ._.
Since you were 4? Damn. And I thought I was cool for listening to them in high school.
I swear he changes it from pressure to depression
@@johnnygman7 Mandela effect
They're aging like fine wine, and so is their music: Unbelievably good album
How lucky are we? Most bands get worse over time!

Masterfully done lyrics. The bridge in particular is so tragic and beautiful.
Weird 'cuz I first heard
"I Feel the pressure, I feel Depression"

You nailed it. Thanks, friend.
This is my new rock climbing theme song. Thank you.
I can feel the pain in the voice and fingers of each musician. I feel like I know the four people like they are my older cousins or something.
I teared up at 2:37 when I heard this song for the first time at their show last night. Such powerful, moving music.
The riffs at the end of more than I could chew definitely had tears flowing.. it was like my entire lifes struggles were heard thru them guitars.
I'm always full of so much emotion when I listen to Mastadon. This song hits the spot.
Prog metal gods - Pink Floyd shivers

"More than I could chew" is by far the best track on the album imo
These guitars, these drums, how wonderful. 🤘
Troys singing off the fucking charts awesome.
In one word this band is relentless
Yay I'm happy I took that tab last night
This track must be awesome live... Tilburg '22, here we come!!!!
Nice work, the chance of rhythm and speed💥 greetings from Germany 🇩🇪🤘🏻
Troy's harmony with his bass is soo sweet!
That relaxed part in the middle is reminiscent of of AIC's "Over Now", got chills hearing it.
Its the second song of the album and its already my fav mastodon song I've ever heard. I'm ready.
I thought Dream Theater delivered the best album this year but then one weak later comes Mastodon and brings up this masterpiece
Check out torn arteries by carcass ...
This is so epic. They absolutely nailed that 90s Stoner prog vibe!
You've replaced my new favorite band 🥰
Thanks for the new tunage!!!
I’m not normally a listener of metal and stuff but damn
Perfection as always
I had to move in the next room so I wouldn't wake the kids. 12am hit at the right time!

WOW solid song on the album, great work!
Very nice job. Love it .
This is a fucking banger. Mastodon are killing it.
Lmfao I love that they dropped this exactly at twelve and nothing else🤣🤣
Brann still likes hitting the snare.
Stuffed full with amazing riffs and passages
This is top tier Mastodon
Mind blown

Well, that certainly was heavy. It's about damn time.
The best track on this album, par none. Living, breathing art.
