If you enjoyed this video please share it on your socials, thanks.
I've used power bait yellow power eggs to float fake corn off the bottom and seems to work pretty well. Cut to size needed.
Always good to see what it might look like on the lake bottom. Harder to tell what difference it would really make.
Yes indeed. I'm pretty skeptical of pop up rigs like these. I don't think the carp will be impressed either. We shall see.
Neat vid Tom. I like watching your experimentations, thoughts and ideas. Information is always a sharp tool in my box. Always leads me to more, inclusive. Thanks for the lab testing!!
Glad you enjoyed it, thanks!
Very good video, Tom. I’ll be doing this with my 5 year old grandson. Always looking for projects for us to do together this is perfect. Fishing buddy since 2 years old. The neighborhood is always amazed at how well he casts. It’s funny to watch their faces when they walk by😎
Oh yeah, that sounds like a great activity for a kid that age. Great idea!
Another combination similar to the cork - tiger at 2:36 is to put a splitshot on the hair. It will let the hook lay flat on the bottom, yet have the bait lifting just off. You'll want to find the shot size that lets it sink just enough to lay the hook down. This presentation will also be easier to suck up, while still keeping the bait on the bottom. For your zig, you really want the hook right inside the zig. With so much distance, the carp can come, take the zig in their mouth, and never get the hook. Because the zig is sitting up in the water, there is less sucking and more just swimming into and grabbing it. Anyway, great video as always.
A shot on the hair is something I hadn't considered, great idea. You're right, the way I had that bug in the video was no good, I just wanted to show it as an example. I appreciate your thoughtful comments, thanks James!
Try pop up corn with the tiger nut it works very good
Towards the end of last season I finally bought some pop up and a kilo of high quality 16mm boilie. All for hook baits. The snowman rig that you are able to make with it really changed my fishing. It was one of the best things I invested in.
Right on!
Very interesting. The lake that I live on has a really soft bottom. I am going to add some pop-up baits to my setup. Thank you.
Good luck!
I really like your combos that elevate the bait on the hair with the hook also up off the bottom…seems like that hook is just waiting to pounce!!
I’ve cut pieces of yellow foam to the size and shape of sweet corn kernels. Have tried adding them to my hook bait when fishing silty bottoms where I don’t want the bait sinking out of sight. Have always strived for just a little positive buoyancy. Unfortunately I have yet to catch a carp with my set up, so I hope your arrangement yields positive results!!
Eager to hear your real life results! And thanks for continuing to innovate!!!
They look nice in a tank like this, but I'm skeptical about any actual improvement in real world fishing. We shall see, thanks Art!
Will be waiting for your video to see how they work. Now I have something else to keep me up at night wondering about.
Ha ha!
Great video Tom. I tried some Mainline Cell boilies from BCT and was pretty sceptical when I tied one on and popped it one inch of the bottom. The lake I fish is shallow and weedy with a real muddy bottom. I usual get one maybe two carp in a session as the fish are wary. I caught three that day! I've seen videos where they pop up tigernuts by drilling a slight hole in each tiger nut and then using a piece of cork dowel to join the two then just passing a bait needle through it all. Temu sells a lot of carp fishing gear and its pretty cheap. Bought a rig box for $6 and it's pretty heavy duty. Maybe you could do a Temu haul and review.
Yep, more than one way to pop up a bait. Thanks Andy.
This demo was very informative. Most of the lakes I fish have a mud bottom so keeping the rig out of the mud should be very useful. Thanks.
The carp are used to rooting around in the mud, I don't think they mind. This might make the bait more accessible for nuisance fish. We'll see, I'll be testing these this season. Thanks Penny.
That first rig with the cork is what I aim for 99% of the time but like you said just a little less bouyant so the hook lays flat
Try some carp pop-ups - 20mm, they can be chopped to fit and produce just enough lift for the hookbait only.
White or washed out colors.
Cork is a good option but it has larger size grain and cannot be cut as neat.
@@ozenel balanced bottom baits and wafters are the way to go for wild carp in my opinion, amy way to achieve it is good practice
Tom, do you take request? Today at a popular bank fishing spot, I saw that someone left behind a 1-pound bag of lentils, a cheap can of apple sauce and a peanut granola bar. That has carp bait written all over it. It's like the applesauce was the ground bait, the lentils were the particle bait the granola bar was going to be cut into hook bait. Sound like a secret bait recipe to me.
Interesting variety of trash at that spot. I'm sure that would work, stay tuned and maybe you'll see it. That actually gives me another idea too, thanks.
Great stuff 🤌🏼 this is quality fishing science.
Maybe you can keep some of the cork in with your flavored tiger nuts to flavor the cork
I like the way you're thinking!
Well that was certainly eye opening. Here in Washington state we have allot of salmon and steelhead. So we have these little round balls called corkies. They come in all colors and sizes. I might use one of those, yellow probably, with my tiger nuts!
I've used those floating Powerbait eggs before, carp will eat them. In my experiments, it took 5 of them to lift the hook off the bottom. Not sure about those corkies.
@@OutsidewithTom I caught an 8lb carp while fishing powerbait off the bottom for trout last week.
@@OutsidewithTom yea these corkies are actual round cork balls. They are very bouiant
I enjoy your videos. Looking to buy a bag to tote my bait to the bank. Your flexible carry bag looks pretty handy to haul pack bait components. What are you using? Many thanks in advance.
It's one of those Okeechobee Fats tackle bags from Walmart. Not sure if they make them anymore.
Thanks for the tip. Just bought one on ebay
А какой метод вы предпочитаете чтоб наживка лежала на грунте или была приподнята, например на реке с тихим течением?
Surprised your pop-up just stayed planted on the bottom. Has open water and rising temps made it to your area yet?
Open water, but water temp still around 40. Will be a few weeks yet before carp time.
