    I know I'm tardy Tom, but I just had to get back to post on this one. IT WAS SO COOL. I think I was just as excited as you, waiting for Santa to jump down that chimney. You had to be stoked when you hit replay on this camera, so much information in just that short feed. I had to laugh at the turtle!! Watching how many times the fish would come back to graze was interesting, and even when it looked like just the hook bait was left. Best part was seeing the camera spin and dance, oh yeah, fish on!! Thanks Tom!!!

    PS. Another tip. Use a lighter test line on bait rig than on line to camera so if the 40 lb carp breaks you off, you only lose bait rig

      I am going to Lake Whitney here in Texas this next week to camp on the north side where the Brazos River dumps into the lake. Recent heavy rains have the lake at 100% full so it might be interesting. I have caught my PB common carp there at 21.3 lbs. Hope to catch some carp, cats and maybe a sand bass or striper… perch is how we pass time.

    Tom that was the best underwater footage I have ever seen and your most interesting video you ever produce. Can't believe how clear that water was. Just shows you can have fish all over your bait and still not catch many . Your heart must of stop when you got snag, we knew you were going to unsnag it because we could see the footage but you couldn't, wonder what your blood pressure was 🤣🤣 thanks again for a great video.

    I like your idea about using a shaped cork chunk with the tiger nuts as a 'float-up'. I have been using trimmed chunks of foam from yellow soft earplugs with my corn as a float-up on my hook baits. I clip the foam with embroidery scissors into a corn shape. It looks very close to the real corn and it catches carp. Cool fish-cam footage. You can really learn a lot about how different fish approach and work the pile as it breaks down, and hopefully find the hook bait for a catch. That little turtle sure was colorful, and the music you are finding is spot on for the footage. 👍

    Cool video. Thanks for sharing it. I've tried a new piece of equipment recently, some inexpensive strike alarms. I got spooled several times on the Hudson River bank because I wasn't paying attention and freight trains came by so I couldn't hear the bait runner. The alarms work well. Anyway I just recently caught my second ever mirror in the Hudson. You've made a very entertaining video. I wouldn't try a camera in the Hudson. Too many snags. Thanks for the video.

    • @ericwhitaker9960
      @ericwhitaker9960 Před měsícem +1

      I’ve also found strike alarms helpful when I’m fiddling around with something else and you get that one beep so you know something is maybe feeding in the area. I give it some time to find the hook and if no more action happens I can check it and re-bait. In a past video Tom has said he would rather find another hobby than use bait alarms. To each their own. I find him to be very practical and resourceful in his approach to his style of fishing and he is one of a couple of CZcams carp anglers I follow and learn from. Good luck on your adventures on the Hudson, sounds like a great spot!

    U/W cameras open up a new world. I share your excitement!
    I have used water wolf’s rig for pike over the years. Often the pike fry to eat my camera but you shouldn’t have a problem with carp😢
    A few tips I’ve learned
    - tie a snap swivel to bait end of camera so easy to change out bait rig
    - if you have longer line between camera and bait, you can see fish as they circle and approach. Sometimes Iadd a float to the camera to lift it up just enough to get a better view
    - if I catch a big/giant fish, I change the sd card so I make sure I don’t lose the footage
    - I add led bike clip on lights around the camera if I’m in low light situations
    I’ve only lost one camera and that was due to some rocks. My bad. If I know it’s rocky now, I tie straws to camera and they make it harder to get stuck.
    Good luck. Have fun!

    Super Tom. Fascinating and instructive. Loved watching the turtle. What a ham. Now I can visualize what is going on in my turtle invested lake. BTW just before you went to the pop up, I was thinking that watching them decimate the pack bait before they found the hook bait, was a good argument for pop ups. Did you catch anything on the Pop up? I have only tried them haphazardly, but will use them more. Any second thoughts on re-baiting more frequently after seeing how quickly the pack bait gets sucked up? BTW, the Tiger nuts you sent me have sold me. Fresh look as they are rarely used around here. I am beginning to do my own. Sorry, but you lost a customer for tiger nuts.

    • @OutsidewithTom
      @OutsidewithTom  Před měsícem

      I definitely plan on doing more with pop up baits and this camera, lots to learn yet. I think these carp were getting ready to spawn, so their feeding habits may be entirely different in a few weeks. I also wonder if the carp were seeing their reflection in the camera lens, which might make them hesitant to feed. Lots of factors to consider, need more data before any changes to my tactics are warranted, we will see. Thanks Bob.

    Have another cool story. My oldest son fished there for years and he had his fishing pole snatch out and lost it. I was fishing one time and hooked his pole 10 years later. Them my friends went carp fishing with me. I brought 2 poles and when I was setting my second pole and they yelled you got a bite. Of course they snatched that pole again! So my brother in law and I went there at midnight and a cop came and asked what we were doing and he said okay. But I caught that pole with the fish still on it. I caught one and I snagged that pole again 2 carp 1 pole. True story! 😮
