@TheLegacyofDragon Exactly. IIRC, one of his biggest fears is that nobody will miss him once he's gone (as I believe it's strongly implied that he has the shortest lifespan out of all of the Guardians, so he fully expects that if any of the Guardians die, then *he* will be the first one to go). He's afraid that nobody will care enough *to* miss him once he really *is* gone....which is why the end of Infinity War hit him so hard, he was expecting all of his friends to outlive *him* rather than the other way around....
True, Drax was once a father, when he carried Mantis to safety, Drax at one point lifted her up when Ego tried to swallow Drax in a quicksand, she reminds Drax of his daughter

Yeah and there’s also a deleted scene where James Gunn was explaining about the scene right after Star Lord cried after seeing Yondu dead, Drax and Rocket flew out to retrieve both of them and Drax was comforting Star Lord, and it was a touching moment there
Neither Freak Ultima I think Rocket is choked up to speak, he lost another friend, just like he lost Groot, Groot from the first movie died, but in Vol. 2 it's a different Groot according to James Gunn
Dave Bautista is a incredibly underrated actor. This scene and that scene from infinity war you really feel the emotion in his voice and see it in his face.
It always hit me when Rocket shocks Gamora, then explains 'I can only afford to lose one friend today', as though he knew going back for Peter would be certain death.
Finally someone who gets it. That "you need to give me this" line makes it clear. Sacrificing him for Peter is the only right thing he will do in his life.
Drax yelling “Rocket! Where is Quill?!” with all that emotion is amazing acting. I felt how much Drax was not prepared to lose a part of his new family and he was in such disbelief. I love this movie

Everyone here is talking about Rocket, Drax, and Yondu, but let's also recognize the fact that Gamora was gonna go after him before Rocket stunned her. When faced with the prospect of losing him, she stopped denying her feelings. That said, it makes hers and Quill's story in Infinity War that much sadder.😢💔
At the potential cost of being hated by his friends, in an attempt to save their lives, Rocket made a decision. He couldnt save one, but refused to lose the rest. Against his teams wishes, he closed the gate. This movie had two of my personal favorite scenes in the MCU: Peter breaks the trance, and Rocket sacrifices what he loves most for the sake of what he loves most.
I'm glad Batista was chosen to play the part of Drax. This green beating machine who can't get methapors but is probably one of the most genuine person in the universe
Idk if he was talking about peter. He gave youndu the space suit so he knew he would save peter. I think he meant he was sad youndu was going to sacrifice himself for peter which is why he said I can only lose one friend because they had became friends in this movie.
j_rr or he gave it to Yondu to use because Quill could of died and Yondu might of used it to get out. After all Peter was the only one who could keep Ego down
j_rr No he definitely meant Peter. He gave Yondu the space suit because he knew Yondu could make it out alive. What Peter did was suicidal and Rocket knew it
This movie is so character-driven and really builds the relationship of the Guardians very well and by the end, though they argue and fight with each other, they all care for one another especially Rocket and Yondu who have one of the best character arcs. It’s by no means a “perfect” movie but I really like it for how emotional it is and I always almost cry near and at the end. Another thing is that it doesn’t build up intensity with big battles about who’s gonna win, it’s more intense when our heroes learn new things that make new things personal and really drive our characters to make sacrifices to save one another as if they aren’t just the “Guardians of the Galaxy” but the guardians for one another.
Drax is not a man known for his fear. In fact, one of his biggest flaws is his lack of fear. He’s tried to fight Ronan despite standing no chance and he willingly got eaten by a giant monster. But here, he’s terrified. Not because he’s in danger, but because his friend is in danger
Drax knows all too well what it feels like to be fearless and yet still be helpless to protect or save the ones you love most. He felt it the day he lost his family and his fear in that moment for his friend is that exact same fear.
Raven431 No one thought he was leaving Peter. He had his mask and Rocket Boots. Nobody thought he was going to need the suit until the end so it doesn't make any sense to give Yondu the suit so he could eventually give it to Peter on the offchance his Starlord mask wasn't functional.
"All you do is fight.. You aren't friends.." -Nebula "You're right... Were not friends.. We're FAMILY... And NOONE gets left behind.." -Drax One of my favorite lines along with a few dozen others.
You knew he was a good guy when he laughed seeing Quill swapped the stone with the troll doll. In the scene with the shopkeeper making those funny noises, you could see his crewmate had a really tough time not busting out in laughter. It's a testament to his acting skills when he has one of the funniest scenes and one of the saddest.
Lots of jokes is true but man this was one of if not the most emotional moment of MCU.... even though we know quill doesn’t die it’s still so moving idk why
I think it's still moving, at least to me, because it shows not only the desperation of the other guardians to go back for Peter, but solidifies the family dynamic by showing how much they do love Peter. It also brings out the true feelings Rocket has for the other guardians. Despite the insane amount of bickering and lashing out, he still cares about everyone. Rocket, knowing there's no other choice, has to not only let one of his friends die, but keep the others from dying with him. He has to give up what he wants, saving Quill, in order to save everyone else, which is what Peter would want in the end.
Dramatic logic: Drax is raising his voice and repeating the question in desperation and fear. Drax logic: Probably just thinks that Rocket didn't hear him the first and second time and is being... Drax.
Honestly one of my favorite mcu movies. Had maybe best soundtrack with awesome mix2, had funny moments but still managed to be overall most emotional film in mcu
and that is why i love guardians of the galaxy movies. they are funny by most of the time, but when the time comes, they get emotional, sad and touching. . . INFINITY WAR SPOILER ALERT . . . . . and that is why i nearly cried at their deaths in infinity war :'(
I agree, but the Avengers care for each other too. I think the Guardians are 'better' because they are more a family than friends. Drax said that himself.
The secret of the guardians? They knew from day 1 what kind of people they were...flawed, losers, criminals, people who made a lot of mistakes.....but thats what allowed them to stick together. They all did somethign they regret, but when chance was given, they begun to grow from it. Saddly the huge flaws from Cap and Stark werent' settled when they should and as a result...they broke. Stark and Cap should had not broken the chains...never break the chains...
It’s because they’re bonded by different factor. Avengers bonded with each other by the death of Coulson. Their relations are based on respect. Of course they care for each other but they’re more likely to do it like a professional and put it aside. Like how Civil War happen; they actually don’t want to fight each other but they need to, so they fought anyway. Guardians themselves are bonded by natural caring instinct. Like how in GOTG1 when shit happen and they were like “well damn, let’s die together”. They called each other as friend. They let their feeling for each other to take control. Rocket in GOTG2 showed so much emotional act. Drax officially(?) proclaimed themselves as family, not team or even friend.
The entire climax of this movie never fails to give me chills and goosebumps galore, the only other scenes in the MCU that can do the same are the bridge scene in Ragnarok and *BLACK PANTHER SPOILERS When Killmonger dies
so many emotional scenes in this movie il list a few drax talking with mantis quill playing catch with ego the hasselhoff story yondus death "im sorry, i can only afford to lose one friend today" "not without you" repeatedly yondu explaining how rocket is just like him kraglin talking about how all his friends were murdered nebula talking about thanos replacing her body parts as she fought with her sister nebula saying all she wanted was a sister yondu's death (of fu*king course) yondu's funeral with quill comparing to hasselhoff yondu's funeral with the fireworks and horns baby groot listening to music with quill and a ton more this movie was amazing
You're totally right, I almost shed a tear just reading your list. 😔 And also, that's why I like to watch this movie at the end of the year, it just makes me appreciate what I got.
I already knew Bautista was an amazing actor from his time In WWE, this scene made him one of my favorites. He is such a good actor, fits the role too. Sad to see him end it.
His voice is really good, but his eyes/chest are what get me in this scene. Pure panic in the way his eyes dart from side to side. His chest/neck is just PUMPING from breathing so heavily. Amazing cast for an amazing movie I swear
Everyone is focused on Rocket in this scene but I am always moved by fact the Guardians are dreadfully upset over the fact their leader has not returned. I know they would give the same reaction had it been anyone of the others but I feel there is something deeper being that Quill has been the captain, not only of his ship but the team. He may be an idiot at times but he makes a great leader when he is needed. And I feel the team recognizes this as they notice they might be leaving him behind.
“I can only afford to lose one friend today” and in infinity war he lost everyone

Yondu passing was tough. This scene showed that no matter what they are family. Ohana... No one gets left behind...
lol the Guardians are much a better team than the Avengers, they actually care for each other like friends
Surely you mean Luke Cage. He has super strength and armored skin after all.
The Guardians are my favorite group in the MCU. They are better than the avengers in so many ways and I hope they come back to us soon.
Drax officially(?) proclaimed themselves as family, not team or even friend.
at this point, they really all truly cared for each other in a way that the avengers never could
This bit is so damn emotional
Petition to ban 15 second ads on videos under 2 minutes
The entire climax of this movie never fails to give me chills and goosebumps galore, the only other scenes in the MCU that can do the same are the bridge scene in Ragnarok and *BLACK PANTHER SPOILERS
When Killmonger dies
so many emotional scenes in this movie il list a few
drax talking with mantis
quill playing catch with ego
the hasselhoff story
yondus death
"im sorry, i can only afford to lose one friend today"
"not without you" repeatedly
yondu explaining how rocket is just like him
kraglin talking about how all his friends were murdered
nebula talking about thanos replacing her body parts as she fought with her sister
nebula saying all she wanted was a sister
yondu's death (of fu*king course)
yondu's funeral with quill comparing to hasselhoff
yondu's funeral with the fireworks and horns
baby groot listening to music with quill
and a ton more this movie was amazing
This movie was an emotional roller coaster ride for sure.
You're totally right, I almost shed a tear just reading your list. 😔
And also, that's why I like to watch this movie at the end of the year, it just makes me appreciate what I got.
Rocket didn't say he didn't want to lose another friend towards quill. It was towards yondu.
1:15 Rocket, where is Quill ? ! 😬😠
The best thing these films do is treat Rocket the same as the other characters, and not a cartoon character even though he’s a CG talking animal
0:59 the moment when Nebula realized this is an family
Everyone is focused on Rocket in this scene but I am always moved by fact the Guardians are dreadfully upset over the fact their leader has not returned. I know they would give the same reaction had it been anyone of the others but I feel there is something deeper being that Quill has been the captain, not only of his ship but the team. He may be an idiot at times but he makes a great leader when he is needed. And I feel the team recognizes this as they notice they might be leaving him behind.
Here after Guardians Of The Galaxy 3, I get it now. ☹️
