Don’t store you’re dolls too close to one another. I’ve had the vinal from one scratch the other. I’m a fan of embracing the imperfections of my dolls. My older dolls have a little ware and tear, but it tells me that they have been loved and I think that makes for a happy doll.
My first doll has a few shine marks and split ends, but it makes her unique. Once I transitioned from playing to collecting, I started to care much more about my doll’s condition
this is such a nice mindset to have, i get so stressed when my dolls get shine marks or scratched!
the old doll hospital magazine photo on your thumbnail really drew me in. so nostalgic! i think this video will help a lot of people :)
I got a doll delivered that sat outside on my porch during the Alabama heat until I got home from work, and when I opened her, she was completely squishy and her head was misshapen. Thankfully, she was still hot enough that I could get her eyes back in the right spot, but I had to take the head off, fill it with hot water, and use a wooden spoon to fix the huge dent in the back of her head
My best advice is don't assume your pets won't mess with your dolls! I recently became re-obsessed with AG after an 11-year hiatus, and brought my dolls to my apartment for the first time, and put them on my highest shelf in my closet, and the next morning, my cats had knocked all of them down to the hardwood floor! Luckily, most damage that had been done was Mia's original factory braid had been completely undone (They chewed on the elastic that was holding the braid in) and Kaya's braids had some pieces pulled out. 😅 No noticeable vinyl scratches or anything. So I got lucky but I've heard some pretty bad horror stories from cat and dog owners alike!
This is why I don’t want a pet like a dog or a cat. I am way too paranoid about dolls getting ruined
Our dogs are really good around the dolls, but when we first got the cat she wanted to chew fingers. Luckily we caught her when she was first enticed, so no damage was done, but I was surprised she was more of a chewer than the dogs.
Thanks for this video! I'm thinking I am going to buy an American Girl Kavi as my first AG Doll ever and this video definitely helped me with some stuff I should and shouldn't do!
I got Claudie for Christmas, so you were right about people getting dolls for the holidays!
I got 2 Addy dolls for Christmas and I have Kanani coming in the mail ! ☺️
So cool
I really enjoyed your video as well as Emma Cole's video. Great tips! Hopefully between the two of you, you have saved many dolls from damage. The dolls thank you both! :)
I currently own 53 American girl dolls and I kept them standing on an IKEA Shelf in their own room. But I do keep three of them that are very important to me in my bedroom (I wish I could keep all of them in my bedroom but my rooms so small!)
Thanks for the tips. I have both Evette and Courtney, and I am a new AG collector. I didn't really think about the hair, but I'm okay with not messing with it much. I am older and mainly just want to change their outfits and keep them on the shelf. I have other dolls for doing hair and taking outside. I have one doll sitting on the shelf, so I'd better get her upright. She is a Journey girl, and I imagine they have bands too.
Great tips and information!! ❤
This video is a masterpiece I literally didn’t know I watched this like 10 times
This is so helpful I’m getting a doll soon so thank u😊
the thing about "dont let them get hot" is less about it warping but more the flesh tone of the plastic vinyl will discolor if it repeatedly gets heated up/melted, gets very cold. the actual skin tone will discolor from the plastic degrading. this is from direct experience
Nice video Ally!!!!
Thank you 😉. Does it represent Canadian society?
All my childhood dolls have terrible hair (despite me not doing much to them), but I’m scared to touch them because I’m so sentimentally attached and the little I’ve done hasn’t helped😅. And Molly’s limbs could come off any second (the other ones are a little loose, but not as bad)😅. So um, learn from my mistakes, kids.
Definitely try fixing them up! You won’t destroy them I promise! Just tighten the limbs, use a magic eraser and use water to brush out the hair and restore it. Lots of CZcams videos you can follow!
But also you should tighten her limbs
Great advice
I recommend that if your American girl doll has tangled hair and you need to brush it to put conditioner in it cause it makes the hair softer and easier to brush
I love how you talked about not impulse customizing your doll., because I did that and regret it. One day I wanted to fix my Rebecca’s hair bc it was dry and tangly and messy. I put it in hot water with conditioner and let it dry after. Then I straightened it, and it looked so much better. I trimmed it bc it had split ends and I just got the idea of curtain bangs. 🤦♀️🤦♀️🤦♀️that didn’t go well.
I’m way too scared to cut hair
I kinda want to customize my Nellie doll because I got her for $6 at a thrift store and she’s in a little rough condition. Her hair is super dry (and might have been cut, I’m not sure) and one of her eyelashes was cut off. But I also don’t want to customize her incase I ruin her or don’t like it
Hi! I was wondering how do you feel about the new doll (I think her name is navi but I'm unsure correct me if I'm wrong)personally, I find her adorable but I'm kind of biased because me and my mum actually got to do the count down (also I think your melody doll looks adorable, I love when people braid/plait their melodys hair)
I tried filming a video reacting to her but both takes ended in my crying not gonna lie because of stress. I don’t know when the reaction video will be up tbh
Her name is Kavi Sharma :]
I also recommend That you should use a smaller brush or a comb because the bigger brushes pull out the hair More
I got a Courtney and Rebecca for Christmas ❤
On thedollstudiobykris's CZcams there is a video how to take care of Evettes hair!
I’ve seen it but ultimately it’s difficult to get it back to its original state
I have 4 dolls I just got Maryellen for my birthday yesterday I have Julie Grace Emily and Maryellen I store them on hooks I 3D printed with beams for their armpits and it's good because they can not fall of
i love evette but i’m just too scared to get her!!!
I store all of my dolls in huge drawers lying down… Is that okay? I don’t want to do any damage to my dolls
It should be fine because they’re shielded from dust
Ok, thank you!
I always wash any dark clothes before I but the on my dolls I have never had them stain my dolls
Omg I have a friend who had lucianna blue suit stain thier luciana doll and thier grace dolls meet boots stained her Grace's ankles
is it true that if you use a brush that has been used in human hair on a doll it will ruin the doll hair? cuz of the oils in human hair? is this true or just a lie?
Not gonna lie I briefly did that because I lost my doll brush. Once or twice won’t ruin a doll, but don’t consistently use the same brush you use because the oils will get onto your dolls hair
I have a Molly and I took her braids out , and she has frizzy hair now even after I combed it. What should I do ?
And it’s tangled
How does it only have 198 likes?😶
Evette my fav problem child 😅😅😅
My Kaya has a bit of a silver eye because she's old and I googled it and she is prone to with age. Elizabeth's meet dress stained her bloomers and body
Does AG still do the free silver eye replacements? Or do they charge now? If it’s free you should look into sending Kaya
How long is too long for sitting?
I would say a few weeks
I guess if you eventually get Evette, maybe you could gather her hair in a pertetual hairnet “style”
I’m not the type of person to keep my dolls in a hairnet though… we’ll see.
Don’t use crayons as curlers and set your doll 4 feet from the heater blower to let her hair set. Don’t ask how I know.
Another big no-no is cutting your dolls hair without your parents/guardians permission or guidance from them (if you are young). I did at 10 and regretted it for YEARS.
Trust me, I cut my Graces hair and couldn’t send her to the doll hospital for another 4 years!
I guess that can count as impulse customizing... I've only ever cut my barbies hair but that was when I was a bit older and more prepared.

Hello!
you forgot not to use a comb I learned that the hard way and I lost some strands, but she is okay and fine.
Ehh I don’t think a comb would be too harmful but a wire brush is always the way to go
@@AllycatlovesAG Thanks for the information I don't have a wire brush though.☹
@@Thedailyanimalvideos our generation has one that’s cheaper than American girl and works just as well! You can find it at Target in usa
@@AllycatlovesAG oh ok that's the one I have!

i know that cutting tags devalue them but tags on pretty much anything are a huge sensory no for me, so they have to go. i repent for my sins but im not gonna change my ways, cause i dont want the sensory hell of having a tag
A tip: Don’t leave in ponytail, braids, hats too long and warp the hair.
With braids in particular, I find it doesn’t cause as much damage on wavy hair dolls compared to a straight hair doll
So I'm 12 am I welcome in the comuntity
of course lol you’re the target audience
also dont use human hairspray on your doll. always use water but be careful. i used hairspray on 4 of my dolls and their hair is disgusting. i dont know why i thought it was a good idea but i was also not the smartest girl in the world at the time.
I didn’t knew people even did that! Like we wash doll’s hair to remove gel and hairspray agh
lol, my cousin was the one who suggested it to me at the time 🤦♀️ dont know where she got that one from.
Allycatlovesag: don’t cut your dolls tag
Me: crap
i love evette but i’m just too scared to get her!!!
