    My first doll was a Truly Me with bangs and straight hair (20 years ago). She has lots of split ends... even after multiple restoration attempts, her hair is far from perfect. My second doll was Kit (probably 17-18 years ago) and her hair is still perfect. All this said, I think part of the beauty of American Girl is having a doll that looks like you/your child. If you're a parent looking for a doll for your curly-haired child, go for the curly-haired dolls! Likely no matter which doll you get, your child will mess up their hair (as I did with my straight-haired Truly Me), and we want curly girls to know that they deserve to be represented in dolls and that those dolls should be chosen and played with! As an adult collector, I am very particular about my dolls' hair, but I still find that there is something charming about an obviously well-loved doll.

    I just hate that AG hasn’t developed a textured hair type (ie Afro, type 3c-4c hair textures) that easy to manage but since AG don’t keep black children in mind when they develop BLACK AG dolls many of us BLACK doll collectors have to settle for dolls with straighter hair so we can braid the hair but not everyone has experience to curl straight hair good without heat so our black (natural hair) options are still limited 😒😒😒

She was from my brothers girlfriend who had an American girl doll from her childhood when she visited in NY and then she gave it to me in perfect condition! My recommendations is that DONT get curly hair dolls Because before you know it there hair gets ruined so I whould recommend the truly me dolls first. I used to collect bitty babys when I was younger and I still have the crib, high-chair, and everything FROM 2009! Great video, agree with everything you said! I'm an adult collector and as much as I love Evette's look, I've decided to pass. I have a Kanani and I have found the best way to keep her hair from getting bad is by keeping it in a pony tail most of the time, especially when storing her. I bought a used Saige at one point that had a rats nest for hair, very painstakingly combed it all out and conditioned it. Only to have it start showing damage at the top about a year later, so I removed her wig and gave her a different style/color completely after I found a really nice Saige that had belonged to another collector. I've noticed this a lot with Saige and have also had several people say they've had all sorts of issues with her hair for some reason. Another doll that spends a lot of time with her hair in a pony tail. Another one that can be a bit frustrating is Lanie, her hair can turn into a mess if you aren't careful as well. Definitely agree with your thoughts on staying away from curly haired dolls, as an adult they can be frustrating even for me.

    So I actually have a bunch of dolls with tight curls truly me 46, Cecile (my baby), a cyo doll with long tight curls, Claudie, and Evette. My hair in real life grows like Evette’s, I know that in the pictures she looks like she has neat tiny curls with a lot of values but her hair does have a “frizzy” texture to it. Mine was always the same way. So I actually was very prepared to handle her.
    My first doll was a first edition Felicity doll who had been owned and well loved by someone before me and she was given to me. Her hair had been cut and these days she’s going by arthur and is a boy haha. But I maintained what was left of her hair well. My first doll that had right curls was Evette actually, followed by Claudie, then Cecile.
    Technically number 46 was got from goodwill so her hair was destroyed. I tried my best to fix it but it was simply beyond fixing. She has bald patches on her wig.
    For now I have her hair in cornrows kinda, they follow the natural way her hair falls rather than going straight back like they often tend to. It looks not too bad as long as you look at her from the front. Turning her around you see the bald patches. She just wears hats though.

    These tips are really good, however sometimes I think that kids with curly hair who want a look alike doll can be taught how to take care of the doll and still get to have one that looks like them.

    • @AllycatlovesAG
      @AllycatlovesAG  Před 2 lety

      I agree! It definitely requires more practice then straight hair but I’m sure you can teach kids to take care of dolls with that hair type

    I had Molly as a kid and I wish I took better care of her :/ I wish I never took her braids out. Could never get her braids to be the same as new ever again.

    • @AllycatlovesAG
      @AllycatlovesAG  Před 2 lety

      I have never kept any of my dolls in their meet hairstyles, but I would say that I’m pretty good at braiding hair. It’s hard because with dolls like Kaya, their braids get cut so when they are new the bottoms are perfectly even and you can’t redo that perfection when she’s out of the box.

    • @AllycatlovesAG

      I would say yes, I find her hair quite easy to take care of despite it being textured! It’s very long so keep that in mind, but she’s such a stunning doll with a nice story

    I don’t like costom doll especially when it’s on a doll like Mari grace or number 4 or pleasant company because they are rare and then they turn the most beautiful dolls into really ugly ones it Destroys the value and American girl doll makeup is not very pretty in my opinion sorry if this offends you

    • @AllycatlovesAG

      Do you mean a CUSTOM doll? If it’s a rarer doll I understand where you’re coming from, but at the end of the day as long as the doll isn’t ruined I’m fine with people customizing. Also I agree I’m not the biggest makeup fan, sometimes natural makeup is fine but overall it is not my style
