Kamau Spares Fang's Life | Genndy Tartakovsky's Primal | adult swim - Krátké a kreslené filmy
Within 3 episodes, Kamau became my favorite character from this series
The question I have is where did he get that piece of paper from?
Me too
Yeah, him and Lula are my favorite side characters in the show

Congrats getting pin on adult swim
When you realize that innocent little spider was the size of a cat.
Also notice Fang doesn't look at Kamau, and instead looks right at the Queen and growls. She knows who the real enemy is, even before she's freed.
Well the queen did have her babies chained up so I’m sure she was hella pissed off at her.
emm the spider was way smaller than cat. Kamau daughter is not sized as regular grown woman.

Forced, but kinda not forced. He always had a choice. I'm not saying I would have done differently in his shoes, but let's not pretend his reasons justify all of the innocent people he's killed.
@@gallowglass3764 they had his daughter hostage so it's somewhat justified (edit:I started a war in the comments section)

The change of his eyes at 1:59 is really well done, from an anxious Dad fearing for the safety of his child to an unstoppable giant.

He’s a gentle giant father
I love the minor shading details relating to Kamau's eyes. Usually whenever we see him he has pure black shading surrounding his eyes, which gives him a more menacing appearance. However in the flashback Kamau doesn't have the black shading around his eyes until he fights for the first time. It further emphasizes how much of a gentle giant he was before the egyptians(I think) invaded, as well as what he had to become to protect his daughter. Animation at its best in my opinion
Also interesting the Queen's and soldier's headdresses have horns similar to those worn by the Egyptian mother goddesses Hathor and Isis, who have no affiliation with war or vengeance.
It’s also something I’ve noticed with older west African men aswell. They’re faces give them naturally soft features but the prominent brow makes it so that angry faces almost completely change that
Ever consider that maybe that shading is cause hes got bags under his eyes
Also, Spear's father has a similar shade around his eyes

I think despite sharing some stylish similarity to Egypt, I don't really think they are Egyptians.
They are probably more akin to the notorious Sea People due to their modus operandi.
The exact mysterious group of people that raided Egypt and many Mediterranean Great Civilizations, who ultimately lead to the collapse of the Bronze Age.
Egypt was one of the Sea People`s greatest victim. Like how the Mongols, Manchu, Liao people and many horse riding tribes that neighboured and raided China borrowed lot of stylistic designs from China. So much so that Russians mistaken the Khitan people for Han Chinese, that to this day the word "Khitan" had became the official word to describe Chinese.
I think a similar case appiles here. As Egypt while is a great civilization, isn't known for Naval warfare, while it had great military victory, most of it are on land. Same goes for its Female rulers like Nefertiti and Nitocris.
This show deadass taught me something, just to keep pushing through no matter what, the journey only ends when you’re dead

To bad budget got cut
It’s very interesting to know kamua is from a people that are very large. It would mean his daughter would become giant as well. Much like fang and her children.
If things had not changed, I fear Kamau's daughter under the Queen's tutelage would have become a giant terrifying warrior loyal to the Queen. Kinda like that tiger she took and raised. She probably would have done the same with Fang's babies. Raise them to be loyal Dino warriors for her army.
Glad Kamau got her out of that life.
Not only that, but his people's culture seems to inherently be pacifistic, considering how that zebra shepherd surrendered a soldier who was 1/3 his size. The queen also seemed to initially be disappointed with the villagers' pacifism until she aw Kamau willing to fight where she then knew she found what she wanted.
I'm guessing he's a Nephilim.
She might be adopted.

@@Notyourstodisclose Genndy's a great writer. He wouldn't just throw Kamau away like that.
He threw the Guardian from Samurai Jack away so I wouldn't be so hopeful
@@mikekempf1456 yeah but samurai jack got rushed af so he couldn't bring many storylines to their full potential
What breaks my heart is this episode proved Kamau is a gentle giant and doesn’t necessarily believe in violence. The ONLY reason he fights is to protect his daughter, but doesn’t believe in unnecessary violence. The queen made Kamau do terrible things that went against everything he stood for and literally tortured his soul by making him slaughter tens of thousands of innocent people. And it was all to protect his daughter because he loved her so much. He didn’t deserve what happened to him and was a victim during all of this, but I’m glad they finally got a happy ending.
Shout out to the character designers who gave all of Kamau's fellow villagers diverse hairstyles. High top fades, mandinka/African Mohawks, cornrows, braids, dreadlocks, short afros, etc

4-5 seasons at most usually when shows run too long the quality and dynamic tends to shift too much and ruin the original feel of the show.
Kamauu is definitely a tragic figure, a once gentle giant who didn't wish to hurt anyone who was forced to murder what must be millions of people to protect his daughter. What makes this series so amazing is that they can show such emotion, depth, and story telling without anyone saying a word.
Amazingly funny how genndy went from Funny Brother and sister laboratory show to this.
Also Sym bionic titan
This is just the natural evolution of what he started with Samurai Jack. In the original run he fought primarily robots so didn't have to worry about showing any violence. Then came the revival on Adult Swim which was basically a pilot for Primal. The silly light hearted moments were drastically reduced and Jack was now fighting human opponents. While the gore never came close to what we see in Primal, it was still a far cry from slicing up robots with cartoon swooshing sound effects with every sword slash.

Kamau has to be one of my new favorite characters in primal. At first I was wondering if he was just supposed to be a really huge man then when this episode dropped it showed he was actually from an entire culture of giants which I absolutely loved.
Genuinely stunned by this show, implementing such heavy deep and dark themes, but also being the most beautiful and awe inspiring show i think ive seen
It took me this long to realise just so gigantic Kamau is
To know who we have seen as a brute and a monster is only a gentle giant is such a beautiful twist. Even if you could see it coming it was so well done and so expertly crafted. What a beautiful show
Wordless storytelling is such an art. Even aliens would understand what’s going on.
Never thought of it that way.brilliant.
Universal story telling is something more people should strive towards achieving. What a cool thought, thanks!
I love the cultural diversity of ancient humans in this show and how it’s all in prehistoric times with dinosaurs. You have the Neanderthals, Africans, Celtics, Vikings, Egyptians it’s such a great story. Genndy Tartokovksy knows how to take different time periods of history and mix them all together and have it all make sense and be realistic.
Kamau knew that if he would've killed Fang, Spear, and Mira, he would never be set free and he would've still remained as the Queen's slave for the rest of his life, while she used his daughter as leverage. As long as the Queen holds Kamau's daughter hostage, he would he continue to serve her, until he died. That's why you should learn to fight back, or otherwise, you'll end up serving a tyrant, a narcissist, or a criminal for the rest of your life, or until they discard you.
It's also why you should learn where the jugular and other important neck vessles are. Because it's the only point where a hollowed out pen can kill a man with a single stab.

I'm worried about Mira and the two babies... Probably Mira saves the babies but dies
Kamau comes from a large tribe them dudes were gigantic
My theory is that Kamau and his people’s size and strength was a result of selective breeding and the evolution of their culture. I believe long ago their race was not so different from regular early humans, except for one key difference, that being that Kamau’s people were very violent. Much like the Ape Men of Episode 5 I think their culture was extremely hostile towards other creatures and towards each other. They developed a strong belief that only the strong were meant to prosper and the weak needed to be eliminated from their population. Over the course of many centuries they held gladiatorial-like battles where only the strongest individuals were left standing afterwards, which ultimately lead to the elimination of weakness in their race. The victors were often the biggest and the strongest individuals so those traits were passed down from generation after generation and became more and more prominent. Over the course of time a new race of homosapiens had been born… The Giants. However there was a problem, their population was declining significantly. Their numbers had been greatly reduced due to the overly excessive use of violence on their own people. So they ultimately came up with a solution, which was to stop fighting. They took a vow and swore to never use violence on each other or anyone else ever again and they ultimately became pacifists. Many years passed and the tribe of giants began to thrive once again after leaving their old ways behind. They had learned from their mistakes and became peaceful farmers, teachers, and healers. They believed in their new way of life so much that they even refused to cut down trees and instead built their huts by weaving grass and straw. Although their size and strength were still prevalent they never used it to harm other individuals again. However tragedy struck one faithful day when the Egyptians attacked Kamau’s village. Although the giants could’ve easily defeated the Egyptians they refused to fight because they still remained faithful to the vow their ancestors made to never use violence again so they allowed themselves to be enslaved. Kamau however was the only member of his tribe to break this code and fight due to the love for his daughter. We see that although he did not believe in violence, Kamau understood that violence is necessary as a last resort when it comes to protecting your loved ones. The queen saw this and used it to her advantage and manipulated Kamau and used his size and strength for violence as his ancestors once did. The other tribe members however refused to fight for her, so the queen used their strength for a different purpose which was to row the Colossus. This all changed in Episode 19 when Spear, Fang, Mira, and Kamau all broke free from the queen’s control and Kamau’s daughter leads Kamau to a lower deck where he discovers what the queen has done to his people. Kamau is then attacked by Egyptian soldiers and he defends himself and his daughter. One of the villagers sees this and after observing his fellow tribe member fighting and killing the soldiers who wrongfully imprisoned him and his people he becomes inspired. He chooses to retaliate as well which sparks an uproar from the other villagers. They easily break free from their imprisonment and mange to exterminate the Egyptians as a whole. From that day on Kamau’s people still remained a peaceful tribe, but they realized that it is ok to occasionally use violence when it is necessary and when defending themselves and their loved ones. This is just my theory and is not based on any actual facts so don’t take it too seriously. I’d still love to hear y’all’s opinions tho and what you guys believe.
Kamau is built like a reverse bobblehead
Him killing those villagers hits harder. They were like his village, peaceful, but the queen found them to be actual useful. No wonder he tried to convince the queen to spare them.

This episode had me on the edge of my seat I didn’t know what was gonna happen but glad the worst didn’t happen
This is just me, but i didn’t even realize how HUGE Kamau is
You know, I knew Kamau was a big guy but this episode really made me realize that he was a BIG guy. In fact, all his people are. A bunch of LITERAL giants.

In screenwriting we have a common phrase for advice, “show don’t tell” , which means basically to not give clumsy background / exposition with character dialogue, show with your writing what’s going on
These guys made an entire show with basically 0 dialogue period , truly stellar writing ability

One Easter egg is that the herder (the one that surrendered first) was also the one who started the revolution by being the first to stand up to the guards forcing them to row the boat.
2:00 Love how Kamau’s eyes go from sweet and loving to looking like he’s about to cause genocide 😂😂
It’s interesting that she kept him as the only one to fight for her when she basically had an army after enslaving his people. Then again since he was the only one to fight back and the others were still passive it was smart to keep them separate as too many of them fighting for her could end up turning on her even faster than now.
She was lucky the others didn’t see him fight back at that time to do the same.

Just how many lives was Kamau forced to take under the Queen's control?
I feel like that's a question everyone has been ignoring. We all froth at the mouth at how much we hate the viking father, but this father gets a pass? I get that they had different reasons, but let's not pretend like the head count doesn't matter.
@@gallowglass3764 the difference is that the Viking Chief was acting out of his own self interest, and Kamua was acting under duress. He would not have taken anyone's life on his own volition. I remember there being speculation that he would either free fang or swing the axe at the queen so glad he did both
It's amazing how Kamau and Ima were once part of an agricultural African village of giants who seemed happy, until it was changed when that awful tyrant queen came, attacked captured some of Kamau's people, and how the queen held Ima for ransom so that Kamau would obey. I think Kamau and his people were pacifists. Despite their large size I believe Kamau’s people didn’t believe in violence and stuck by a certain code and they weren’t willing to break that code at first which cost them their freedom. Kamau was the only one to break that code and fight because of his love for his daughter and would do anything to protect her. The queen saw Kamau was the only one in the entire village willing to fight so she made him fight her war and put him on the front lines and since the other giants wouldn’t fight she used their strength for a different purpose, to row the Colossus ship.
that may explain a lot of things, because I really though it didn't make any sense for such strong giants to be captured in the first place, I mean if they could rise up in rebellion and literally annihilate the Egyptians then why have they been enduring slavery for so long?

Having *compassion* for the misunderstood.... im in such awe of Genndys storytelling. Without words. It's truly a masterpiece
I love when the characters give their war cries
