I like how it shows Spears fathers eyes as red like the Tigers, his dad was more animal than man and Spear inherited all his raw power and primal instincts.
Spear becoming cheif of his people tells me that him, his wife, and his two children were the only survivors left of his tribe. That just proves how savage his home truly was and also how strong and good of a survivor Spear was for being the last survivor of his race and keeping his family safe for as long as he did.
Everyone is talking about how animalistic Spear's father is- can we appreciate how HUMAN and similar to Spear he is? That very brief moment of tenderness between Father and Spear before the attack, and how he was up like a shot from under that smilodon the moment he saw Spear in danger- that felt powerful to me
The father downed 7-8 of them with 1 assist and 3 kills from child spear, if spear was grown had fang and his father plus his children he’d have a terrifying clan.
I'm not sure why but seeing this comment made me piss my pants laughing. I think it might be because I did not expect to see Boondocks mentioned in the same breath as Primal
One thing I don’t think people get about this series. It’s not just about “survival” what makes spear special is that he is a protector. When we went from just surviving at any cost. To protecting the tribe at any cost that’s when we were primal, but had become human. Throughout the series that’s what spear does he protects
TLDR - Apparently the rest of clan lack the basic common sense, self preservation and human instincts required to survive. Spear’s dad had all these things, modern day humans have these things as well. But apparently these humans are the “I made a mistake how do I delete” of evolution because apparently they incapable of basic survival. No wonder they went extinct, Spear and Spear’s dad must have been doing all the hunting and protecting. I don’t think that excuses the entire rest of the clan not doing shit, they may not be Neanderthals but they should still be capable of I don’t know, running away or hiding from the danger? (Didn’t see hardly any of them doing that) Or you know fighting back? You mean to tell me that all of them lost basic survival instincts???? Some of them look more ape then Spears dad and yet they just stand there not even trying? I definitely agree on why they went extinct, because apparently that means that Spear’s dad and possibly Spear, where the only people getting food, defending the clan and in general doing anything useful. What in gods name did any of these people do if they freeze up at the mear sight of danger? I doubt they were very effective at gathering plants or water I’m assuming (If they did that) and they certainly don’t seem smart either. For someone more ape than human Spears dad shows more intelligence (Apparently he’s the only person there who understood that spear=kill and that freeze = bad and literally basic common sense and self preservation), love (His care for spear), dedication (protected everyone), self preservation (I say this because he didn’t lie down and die when things got tough) and determination than the entire can combined.
Right at about 2:30 you can see what’s left of spears dad after the attack. Also the way this group of 5 or so nearly 1000 pound cats attempt to eat the tribe of people alive (which no cat ever does with prey) should tell you how harsh things are not just for humans but predators as well.
Lions commonly eat their prey alive They often don't bother inflicting a neck or spinal wound when in packs So plenty of their prey get eaten while still alive

I think Spear is actually a 50/50 Neanderthal / Homosapien His father is clearly substantially different than the other tribesmen, looking far more animalistic and whatnot- whilst they moreso look like tribal humans. Since Spear's father is portrayed as more animal than man, it would make sense that Spear inherited his animal instincts and rage from his father (who is a Neanderthal), whilst obtaining his human like qualities from his mother (who is likely a Homosapien but not shown in the flashback).
