Fun fact. Sesame Street was indeed intended for black kids
I learned this recently. I was shocked, but it all made sense when I went back and watched the first few seasons. I love the older episodes of Sesame Street.
I thought most people knew that. And well it was created to represent all minority (non white) children, hence all the differently colored puppets/characters.
Beleaf’s idea is geared specifically towards black children.
The different perspectives from the kids was great!
I think we needs shows of all races. To be able to ask questions all the time. And honest answers. I wrote another comment saying what happened with my daughter seeing a little black child for the first time and what she asked me. We have to explain in simple terms and then my daughter and this little girls played for hours with each other

Omg IVE BEEN SAYING THIS MY WHOLE LIFE!!! I went to art school for a semester to study animation so I could produce educational programming for children YEARS AGO but I got talked out of it! Keep it up, and maybe I'll be back on that in a couple years once I get tired of my cooperate job! 🙄😍

No we need shows of all colours of kids getting along with each other. I was raising my daughter in a community like the Amish in Canada we went on a holiday and went into a pool and there was a black fella with his daughter with him my kids age. Treeva grabbed the little girls hand and said mama why is she so dirty ? Now before everyone gets all upset I had never taught her that black people were dirty. I would say to her honey you have to wash your hands they r black with dirt. Then you can eat (As she made mud pies all the time)
This was a good teachable lesson for her. I said oh she has black skin because god made her that way look hun. There is her mom she is black like this cute girl and so she looks like her mom. Now look at your hands. They r pink because you look like me. Isn’t that fantastic…….. they both nodded…..
then I said but look so much you have that r the same ……the same legs to splash the water , bathing suits that r so cute , curly hair all done up with barrettes, then to get them to laugh I said you both have crossed eyes and I did it to them and goofy smiles. And funny squeaky laughs. And the most important one. You r both little girls. And I love little girls ….. treeva said mama can I play with her. So I actually went and asked her mom and she said oh course. Thanks for the great fantastic explanation I told her your little girl is the first black girl my daughter has seen so I needed to talk to her. So they played together and later the whole family came for supper at our campsite and these little girls rode around treevas bike 🚴

Sesame street was made in a city environment and casted many African Americans from the start. The whole purpose of the show was to create a childrens show in a real looking place with all different types of people. The answer isn’t a black “ seasme street” or having shows just for black kids. All that does is separate the races more and make it so the kids think there is more of a difference between the races when in reality we are all way more alike then we know

I was literally about to make this same comment. Look...make whatever content you want to make...but if your reason is because Sesame Street isn't black enough for your children, then you seem to want to indoctrinate your kids to view the world a very particular way. Sesame Street has ALWAYS highlighted Black culture and had Black actors behind and in-front of the puppets.
I get that there's no real "Black Cultural" show on today, not like there was when I grew up. Cosby, Family Matters, Fresh Prince, Sister Sister, Static Shock, Bernie Mac, Everyone Hates Chris, That's so Raven, The Proud Family were all some of my favorites. These days, I don't think I could name one for you and I definitely couldn't name one appropriate for children.
Us as Black people creating representation for ourselves is not a crime. Everyone else will be fine.
That mindset only works if you think Blackness is unrelatable to non-Black audiences. Because Black kids watch shows with White casts all the time, and those shows aren't considered only for White kids. If the show is entertaining for kids, they'll watch it.

Sesame Street puppets didn't. That was the whole point of Sesame Street. The humans were racially diverse people who modelled being friends and neighbours in an integrated community, as if that were perfectly normal and no big deal. The puppets were non-racial. They were a bird, a snuffleupagus, Bert, Ernie, Prairie Dawn, and a whole lot of... monsters. Then radical racialism happened, and then this guy decided that black separatism was better for children than the Sesame Street message.
