Maximize Your Speed and Avoid This Common Speed Killer

  • It's amazing how many sprinters loose speed through external rotation. Learn some quick fixes for one of the most common speed killers out there.
    When sprinting you want to line up your forces and hit it as hard as you can. Any external rotation will cause your speed to drop. Something as simple as a slight head movement can carry over into the hands and the feet causing wasted movement and slower times. On top of all of that if you're in a competition and step out of your lane you can get disqualified.
    In this lesson coach Harnden teaches the importance of avoiding external rotation. He also provides some practical sprinting tips and drills to work on keeping things lined up. Remember, the fastest way to get from point A to point B is a straight line!
    Amazing demonstrations (as always) from Cejhae Greene (10.0 100 meter PR) and Warren Fraser (10.14 100 meter PR).

    One sprinter with amazing sprinting technique is Trayvon Bromell. He has very little wasted motion in his running form. All the energy he puts into the track is very linear. Other than his lack of speed endurance, Bromell is a perfect example of the technique every sprinter should strive for.

      For sure, Cejhae's demonstrations of incorrect technique are hilarious! Very entertaining seeing a 10 sec sprinter run so bad.

    Many athletes rotating in their races , sometimes very fast too but overall it’s not healthy for the body

    Should we take steps that are small in length but faster frequency or long steps in the start.

    • @OutperformOfficial
      @OutperformOfficial  Před 3 lety

      There is definitely a balance between stride length and stride frequency. It's also highly individualized and will vary from athlete to athlete. In general you want to start by making sure you are not reaching with your strides and landing underneath your center of mass. From there you can use formulas and experiment with ideal stride length for your height/leg length. A lot of sprinters use wickets to work on it.

      Focus on force production and don't worry about stride lenght too much
