Kudos to Joyee for putting her game on camera. This is why it is probably important to have fewer mechanical swing thoughts on the course so you can devote more energy to aim and alignment.
True but that is hard when you're going through swing changes. It's gotta be a good balance between when you can try and implement the changes and when you need to focus on just hitting the ball! 😄
Gen... you're teaching. You're allowed to do anything you want when you're coaching someone. Anybody who would suggest "you shouldn't stand behind a golfer when they're swinging" is a fool for not understanding the circumstance here. You don't need to apologize or justify yourself at all.
Thanks for having me again G dawg! Smash that like button and we will do a "Help Joyee break par video"! 😄
We need a Joyee "what's in the bag" segment.
Looking forward to your next video. Good to see you playing well.
@@thehairygolfer Thank you Simon 😄
Looks like you have been working, Joyee. Your swing changes look great. You will be breaking par in no time.
I can identify with that round. I recently was 1 over after 5 holes next 2 holes carded a 7 and a 10 then parred the next to holes. 😁
You two are such good friends. And Gen you are really driving home that avoiding big numbers is one of the golden keys to golf.
Definitely! Thanks, Jim! 😄
I liked Jo's expression on 2nd hole tee box " I will be on another hole"....haha....good golfer able to take it easy......bravo
Haha she's a fun one!
Yay Joyee!!! You hit some awesome shots and got to play with Gen... a win-win any day!
preach
love the videos with your low/ high handicapper friends, makes us beginners feel relatable and more importantly, LEARN a lot of great tips we dont get from range coaches!
Thank you! That's the idea! 😄
Joyee is back! The swing is looking tighter. One thing I would add to the aiming on the 11th tee. Sometimes I aim away from trouble and sometimes I shape away from trouble. So on that 11th with trees on the right I would have gone to the right side of the tee, aimed at the bunkers and hit a fade to the fairway. But that just means I'm weird! 😂😂😂😂
Haha at the end of the day, it's whatever you feel most COMFORTABLE with! 😄
I'm an 8 handicap and find myself making these same mistakes! Each shot must be totally committed and do not over power wedges :) great advice!
Not only you, i'm sure a lot of people do the same thing! 😊
I almost did the same thing today but heard Gen's voice ... "Wedges are for control."
Anyone who can shoot 3 birdies and 3 pars in 9 holes has huge potential. Trust what your coach is telling you and I'll be watching you break par soon. Good luck Joyee.
Appreciate it Nicholas :)

We're rooting for you, joy.
Great golf game, Joyee!! You have all of the fundamentals, your swing is good, your putting is wonderful, continue what you are doing, because it is good. Just practice when you can and listen to your good friend, Gen. You have a wonderful personality and demeanor. I think if you work hard you will be a par shooter.
Practice and listen to gen! got it! 🤣 Thanks Bob
Good playing lessons. I’m 46 and I changed my driver swing last week by learning how to lower my left shoulder more to get better release and improving my distance.
I like how you ask Joy what target are you aiming at and talked her thru each shot to see the Big picture. Thanks Gen
Thank you! It's always important to understand what she is trying to do and then only "correct" it if it might not be the best thing to do versus just directing her to do something without explaining why! 😊
Great vid. I don't know how a single digit handicap can so often choose the wrong clubs but its good to see how much we need to pay attention to course management. I'm an 8.5 and had a disaster round yesterday because I'm changing my swing a bit too.
Great video Gen. Thank Joyee for letting us see her going through the swing change. She has a great laugh. She was more tense than the last time you played together but your tips help all of us. More please.
Yes I think she wanted to "redeem" herself for the last time so she wanted to score better..which she did! 😄
@@GenevieveLingGolf She played very well. Joyee seems much more comfortable and confident. Her swing is looking good. She is also fortunate to have a player of your calibre to help her "on course".
Mindblowing. You have such a good eye for the game. That set-up change at 24:12 just explains a lot of my faults. I feel l need on-course coaching by some-one like you. Can we have more of similar videos PLEASE!!!!!!!
Just shows how a pro and amateur approach each facet of the game; a repeatable method of preparation just like you have a repeatable swing - only for 18 hcap's we have repeatable inconsistancies all over!!😁
Excellent vid Gen!
Hahaha thanks, Stephen!
This is the exact kind of coaching I need. My biggest weakness is not knowing how to play a course strategically. With your on course coaching I'm sure I would break 80 more often than I do now. Great video.
Swing changes do take a while. When I change I play a whole round with that change, regardless. This then becomes my new target to beat and helps me to concentrate on the change. As the score goes down then I can feel I am making an effective change. Sometimes it takes a few months. The worse change was when a coach told me my feet were correct but my shoulders were facing too far left. Jeez Louise! took me about a year to feel comfortable with a better set-up. Worth the change, in the end. Love the course management comments.
I see a lot of myself in @namesjoyee - other than being Malaysian! I first picked up a club when I was 5 (I learnt golf watching Nick Faldo VHS tapes) and played a lot till I was about 15 but never had any formal coaching/lessons. Then put them down while I played rugby then went to uni - probably playing only once or twice a year for almost 15 years. Currently got myself a coach and working through my own swing changes with the goal of trying to grind down to single figure from ~12 in the next year and then hopefully scratch in 2-3 years! The big thing I'm noticing though is how once you get to low double digits or high single figures it's really all about short game and missing in the right areas. Off the tee as long as you have a predictable shape and miss you'll be ok (obviously working through swing changes makes this hard so every hole is a mindf*ck from the beginning!). But avoiding big scores usually means being confident in getting up and down and avoiding the duffs and knives that go everywhere but the green! I played 9 on the weekend and my two big scores (double bogeys) were the result of duffs and knives with the wedges.
2:20 take care of the golf course, and the golf course will take care of you!
e: joyee's swing and game look much improved, and gen's coaching certainly seems to help. this is a really fun format. maybe one of these days we will see a match between teacher and pupil 😁😁😁
Haha it is on @namesjoyee 's channel 😉
@@GenevieveLingGolf ha! i remember seeing that one when it came out. perhaps it's time for a rematch! 😁
Metres yayyyyy😂👍 this is one of your best videos as far as coaching goes. Love it.
Yes she can & Yes she must.
Loved the vlog. Really enjoyed your tuition. Excellent student too.
She was addressing her driver at the heel hence the heely-cuts which you corrected on 18th (twice :-D ).
She has more chance of finding the sweet spot now and extra yards off the tee.
This is so cool. I played TPC East for the first time this week. I was well prepared from watching your videos😍. Thanks Gen!
Awesome! Hope it went well!!
Hi Gen, Absolutely love this video! Love hearing the coaching and thought process.
Thumbs up for Joyee agreeing to be coached and filmed.
Favorite exchange @ 7:20
Can you hit over this tree?
Yes
100%
?
No
I also like "Half-swing but fully committed...yah?"
Hahaha you hear interesting conversations when you record what people say on the golf course 😂
Brilliant format. Keep it up and thank you.
I too need a on course lesson by you too.
THIS IS SO GOOD!!!! THANK YOU!!!
Joee's improving, nice to see,an coach Gen, u did well..questions causing her to think on what she was doing, and suggesting a better way or, another view👍👍😊 good job.
Young lady has a solid foundation for a great swing. With work she can build something smooth and consistent
I wish you could coach me the course like that. And hit a fantastic shot I never hit before. 😎
Great video Gen, really like this format/content. I wish someone told me about opening up the fairway when I started playing golf years ago...it had made an immediate positive impact to my game.
I like your vlog a lot, but i prefer this kind whit the direct interaction on the course and not the comments afterwards. In any case, always nice to watch
I like both...but yes, this is refreshing and spontaneous.
With those yardages that she plays, she is such a fabulous ball striker. She also has my bad habit which my friends keep on and on about when I am on the course. My feet are aiming right but I just cannot see it. It's really hard to aim my feet left as it feels like I will hit it so far in the wrong direction which it doesn't. My scores are now dropping big time because of this one fault correction.
Great work Joyee and Gen. Loved the questions Gen.
thanks for sharing the tips for course management and swing changes. Very useful !! Keep up the good work !
Good to joey back so was the "beep beep beep" in English or Malaysian 😂😂😂. I can identify with her game she plays the holes really well or really bad.
Hahaha! Yeah, I find that to be a big difference between every golfer trying to break a "threshold" like 80, 90 or even 100!
Genevieve bootcamp
😂😂
I need this kind of coaching. I struggle on club choice and course management.
+2 on 9 for a 9hcp is a good score!
Yes it is! 😄
dat Gen Ling coaching be aggressive
Great video more like these. These are nice on course incites to help everyone.
Gen... you should make her say "Challenge" before every tee shot.
🤣 cheeky Cinderella Story reference there
Omg cinderella flashbacks 😱😂
Great to see Joyee working in metres 😃I don’t have to rack my brain with ancient yards 😏
😆
First 2 minutes in...was like she ain't no 9 handicap lol
Really nice swing
Nice vlog Gen, to help us learn more would you please tell us the “why” behind your directions. Ex. Why did you have Joyee move to the left side of the tee box? When would you move to the right or play from the center? Thanks
Thanks! 😊
Haloo..
I really enjoy ur videos, anyway do you have a video about how to read the line on the green ?
Best regard ,
R (Indonesia)
🙏
@namesjoyee swinging better than previous videos 👍🏼
heheh thanks baus
Love to have a game with you one day ! Great Video
I just play golf. Can you tell some tip to gain more confident at golf course. Tq
Can you carry this tree? yeah. 💯 Percent? no...😂😂😂 So real
What's the trick? As a professional do you try new things during the season or wait until it's over to incorporate new things?
Thanks for the great video!
Looks like on the second hole she positioned the driver with the heel of her club. Could that have caused her fade? She's 9 handicap? Looks a lot better than that. Would like to have her follow through.
She's a 9 handicap because of inconsistency and bad decisions which cause big numbers! She can definitely play a lot better than a 9! 😄
HI G,
Which golf tracer app are you using in the video?
Thanks.
Hi Gen, great pointers on ball placement at the tee box, I'm just learning about that from a friend as well. Most of the time I will place the ball on the hazard side from the tee box and hit away. Any comments on my approach to the game from that point?
Best thing to do...
Don't keep score!
Work on the swing, forget the results until the swing gets dialed in! And it will!
Hole 13 faced with a forest she says aim for the tree :)
Hehehe 😄😅
Her swing is smooth A-F.
The alignment "issue" with the feet aiming right and the clubface aming left, is that something Jo has to change next, or does she do this because the teaching pro told her to?
Oh, you already pointed it out to her, never mind xD
I believe a downhill lie will increase loft 1:53
Jo’s lower body and upper body aren’t in alignment at address ......on most shots that she misses right .
I would have her get her right shoulder back a little at address, which would promote a stronger grip and better swing path .
Probably! But I would leave that up to her coach to adjust :)
@@GenevieveLingGolf .....I totally agree with leaving this up to her swing coach , if she can get her complete body alignment, from her feet ,knees ,hips and shoulders synced up to square, her dispersion would tighten up and her scores will come down.....
She’s just a tad right with her lower body and a tad left with her upper body at address.......
Love your channel Genevieve, keep up the awesome work ❤️
Golf is in YARDS !!!!
Not in Australia
If you want to measure in meters invent a new game ! Its our game invented in scotland measurement is in yards ! You cant just go around changing the way the game is played ! YARDS
@@Brickktopp calm down buddy it’s just down here we’re in meters
I'm no professional but is her driver too long for her height?
U sure she’s 9 handicapper?
She can be a 2 handicap and a 12 handicap, depending on the day 😂 (and don't worry, she would 100% agree with me here😂😂)
