    This is awesome. It’s so discouraging to me to watch golf vloggers hit 3000 yard drives and par/birdie every dang hole and still having time to goof around with the camera and even rent out the whole course to keep from being pushed. Your channel is my absolute favorite golf vlog. And kudos to Terry. Thanks.

      @@GenevieveLingGolf I really enjoy the videos as you explain course management. One of the things I have an issue with and I'm sure most average golfers do as well is we just try to hit the ball as far as we can and don't take things like bunkers or distance into the green into account. I am pretty good with my short irons from around 80-100 yards but I never think of leaving myself with that distance and a lot of times will leave myself with awkward half shots from 30-60 yards. Definitely going to try and play from the green backwards so I know where to try and leave each shot to give me the best chance for success.
      Thanks Gen!

I went through the process over last the year, really focussed on chips and putts for 6 months, and found the confidence improved and scores lowered. As far as course management, that's one area where you can gain strokes like you said by picking better targets as your miss hits don't punish you that severe. By the way, keep up the great work!

    Really good notes on course management, Genevieve. Obviously, improving a mid-handicapper's short game is usually the fastest path to improved scores, but all the subtleties of staying below the hole, trying to find flat lies in the fairway, understanding where you can most safely miss, all those elements are easy to overlook because they become a bit instinctual.

  • @Shakester71
    @Shakester71 Před 3 lety +1

    Short game is the difference between an 15 handicapper and a 7. We’re all going to hit bad shots during a round and we’re not going to hit every green in regulation. There was a day I hit 5 greens in regulation and still managed to shoot a 75. If I didn’t have a good short game, it probably would have closer to a 90. When I first started leaning golf, a golf teacher told me “you can hit the ball 440 yards in 2 strokes, but if it takes you 3 strokes to get the ball in the hole from 30 feet, then you’re not going to shoot a good round. So I started spending the majority of my practice time in the short game area. I’d hit a small bucket of balls at the range which would take me 20 minutes and then spend 40 minutes chipping, putting, bunker shots and short pitches. This was all before I even attempted to play a round of golf. My first round was at Harding Park and I shot a 95. That was 15 years ago. I got as low as a 2 but haven’t played as much lately and now hover around a 6.

    I like this kind of video I play weekly and have similar flaws to Terry my short game is a little bit better but my putting is horrible I've started making a concious effort to count my puts and even go to the course to practice once or twice a week

    No way Terry is a 15. Kudos to him though for putting his game out there for scrutiny.

    I think Terry regarding his chipping should look to get some "game improvement" type of wedges.
    For example, Cleveland CBX2 or Callaway SureOut 2 are great and easy to hit forgiving wedges and generate spin to stop the ball (especially the Cleveland CBX2 which generate really high spin).

    Terry reminds me of some of the players I used to play with...not me of course! The common faults are universal and his chipping mistakes are very obvious, which some hours on the practice area would seriously improve this. Needs to slow done somewhat and develop a consistent ore-shot routine all of which you kindly pointed out...😂

    Very brave of Terry to put his swing on video with you ....
    Have him check out Nick Taylor golf ( stack and tilt ) channel decent swing but his left arm is braking down due to over swinging an easy fix .
    Good luck Terry....

    it would be fascinating to see you telling Terry what to do, basically upload your course management skills into Terry for 9 holes :D
