You can see the potential is sooooo there. I love watching a player that you can tell very correctly follows the skill-growth curve. Theyre about to hit a fast spurt if they find Frogger or eskay.
I hate nothing more than tanks/teams who don't walk forward. Lucio was the only one trying to contest the point. And so far they're playing great. I hope Zen will have mercy and switch during this game or I don't see this ending well but early on in the video I'm impressed with this Lucio. Definitely better than silver
Yeah tanks below gold don't understand that you need to contest the point as much as humanly possible on defense to force as many fights as you can.
The thing is, everyone in higher ranks (relative to one's own) are not just better players, they're also better team players. And they're better team players because they understand how to adapt to the team they have, rather than the team they wish they had. The Lucio failed to adapt to the team he had, and as much as he was playing "more correctly", he ultimately did put himself in more 1vMany situations than anyone else. Sure they would've lost the point, but at the same time the enemy Rein had pinned into Narnia and the Lucio could've helped capitalize on that instead together with the rest of his team, and sure give up the checkpoint but at least you stabilize into a 5v4 in a good position to hold. Tunnel visioning on the peak value is not always the best value to seek, if it comes with equally high risk.
To be clear, this is not to say its not frustrating to play with a Tank who doesn't understand tanking. Of course it is. But it's part of the job of climbing, you gotta shovel the shit to prove you're worthy of being on a team full of other players who have all been in that hell and shoveled the same shit before you.
I am a prime example of "plays a lot of Unranked and never touches Ranked." I tried one match in Comp and they were extremely toxic and that pushed me away from it. In unranked I find more fun and frankly, even though some people are toxic, there are also a lot of people who will be super chill. In my experience, Ranked play is just a lot more toxic than it needs to be.
Maybe don't allow one experience paint the entire game. I had the same experience for a few games, but it changed drastically when i stopped looking at chat and started looking at my play. To be honest I've experienced more toxicity in qp, and it's worse since there's absolutely zero on the line, literally meant for fun.
@@Vantablack33 that's my point tho. I play for fun, no reason to throw myself into a situation that's gonna ruin that, in QP the toxicity isn't as bad, because I know there's nothing on the line. In ranked there's a level pressure that makes it a bit worse, because now it's toxic for a reason, which then makes what is said a tad more important. In qp it's easy to laugh off the chat as them just feeling incompetent, especially when they're doing worse than the rest of the lobby. So maybe don't judge me for not wanting to deal with people when it's my choice.
He's very good, good decisions most of the time, he's just playing Lucio so it's going to be difficult to climb

Your Lucio overall is already really good and I have no doubt you will climb. You generally know what to do (like contesting the payload or clearing the Ana from the high ground).
As a long time Lucio main tho, I wanted give a few tips and knowledge!
His Speed/Healing aura lingers for a bit when you break line of sight or someone gets out of range, very similar to Mercy's beam. So in some situations you can stay safe and just peak your team for a bit and go back to cover.
When you aim lower then 0° forward, your boop still works exactly the same. It can't boop downwards. So what you often see players like Eskay and Frogger do is get above some, look straight down onto them and boop. It will only go into the horizontal direction you look at, the vertical angle doesn't matter.
You can switch your speed/healing back and forth, especially in duels. It gives you the benefit of some healing and some speed, and since it changes your movement speed rapidly, it's actually harder to hit you. Just don't make it a habit of doing it all the time. (Calling myself out here)
Try to always follow up your Boop with a melee. It's one of his bread & butter combos for more burst dmg and they have roughly the same hitbox.
As with many supports, but especially Lucio you have the freedom to look around a lot. Use it to always have a sense where everybody is and what they are doing.
Lucio is what I would say an opportunist. He can go so quickly to the "right place" in a teamfight. So tempo and timing play a big role for him. Read the teamfight, the back and forth and use your speed to strike at the right time, and get out fast when the opportunity is over. Looking at high level Lucio gameplay, this is mostly what they do, wallride and speed around until they see an opening and use it, but if it doesn't work or the enemy uses cooldowns, they get out again. Rinse and repeat.
Use your wallride ability to gain off angles on the enemy. Just shooting straight at them with the rest of your team (on a horizontal plane) isn't that effective most of the time. But just gaining a bit off altitude can give you an angle above the tank or shield to the backline and you can harass them from afar.
Generally you can play more aggressively with wallride when they have projectile heroes, it can be really hard to predict your movement. But hitscans can be dangerous, so don't go too high on the walls. And always play around cover even when on the wall.
I often only use one half of my boost for healing and then switch to speed once someone is healed enough. Sometimes the other way around if getting someone to cover or out of a Mei ult, where speed has the higher priority.

Regarding the qp vs ranked conversation in the video, I've been a quickplay warrior since OW1 came out. I've only finished my ranked placements in season 3 of OW2, which was Silver, which made me mad and I just went back to qp. I just don't want to deal with the toxicity and throwers in ranked. Also, those ranked placements that I did in season 3 had people every game that ranged in skill from bronze to diamond so it was basically like playing qp anyway.
Two things. Qp uses basically the same matchmaking as ranked, so ya in that way it feels the same.
If you’re judging other players skill ranging from bronze to Diamond but you haven’t played a lot of ranked I’d be skeptical of the accuracy of your assessment of their skill level.
There’s no reason you have to play ranked, but if you do having a good mindset is extremely important and I’m seeing some warning signs in your comment
Why where you mad at placing silver? Honestly the system places you base on your skill level.
He’s gonna be the best dps Lucio one day. There were so many times where he could have saved one of his teammates with amp it up but just ended up using it for speed boost into their team😂

Wallriding can be very good on controller, everyone binds jump to a trigger which makes it much easier.
I have jump on m2 as lucio on PC for the same reason!

On console I did just that, when I switched to pc for OW2 I have it both on spacebar and the scroll wheel. Spacebar to stay on the wall, scroll wheel for the instant wall jumps and bunnyhops
@@ness1278one of the buttons on the side of the mouse. idk if u play on pc but most mouses have 2 side buttons. the top one is boop and the bottom is melee. it makes the boop melee combo extremely easy cause u can just slide ur finger down

Lucios rank reflects their consistency and team synergy, not skill. There are some Lucios who parkour, some with good aim, some with great heal stats, few with all
The main issue lower Lucios face is front lining and taking bad 1v1s with over confidence because of mobility, self heal, and boop. If you don’t have a mic to communicate moves to the team, stay with them

lucio does pretty well on controller if you have the correct settings, dont use default buttons, and increase your sense!! he's actually pretty fun on it :0 !
He may be very good at wall riding and maybe even put a lot of time into practising it, that will probably get him back to gold/plat
but he still has the game sense of a silver player, barely ever uses his boop, constantly went flying into the enemy team after doing a rollout, didn't do enough healing (especially considering the support duo), and most of the beats felt kinda random.
Thanks for feedback, good to hear what i did wrong and what i need to improve on, I'll definitely be working to improve what you've mentioned. I will be getting a new headset one day so i can listen out for audio cues and not be unaware of like a sneaky Reinhardt in the backlines lol.
@@Green_Frog_04 The best tip I can give you is to just slow down a bit and be more patient, play with your team. only become aggressive and increase the tempo when it looks like your tank is moving in.
when your team is standing still not doing much you should be on healing, any time your team is moving forward or repositioning you should be on speed.

The one thing I saw here was sometimes its worth it to beat to save a fight and not just counter an ult. Several times they had multiple in crit and held ult leading to 2 people dying forcing a reset where the beat use might have baited ults and could have prevented deaths and saved the team fight.
This player has a very good grasp of Lucio mechanics, and clearly they're thriving in taking duels and contesting the objective.
However, as is often the case with a ranked match, this is not always enough. All it takes for this player to be locked down, is an enemy who knows how to fight back. Or a general enemy team that knows how to take charge in fights, this is here where this Lucio player seems to struggle the most. When it comes to peeling, speeding his team around, using his ult appropriately with a bit of foresight, these are all major weakpoints that are typical of Quickplay-players who are used to scrappier matches with limited synergy and team effort/coordination -where getting consistent solo duel value is reliable.
Plat is generally where you start encountering more team coordination and individually skilled players, meaning this Lucio's two main fortés are more likely to be locked down. What they're getting away with in Silver, they wouldn't find the space nor resources to do in Plat, at least not consistently so. And their hard engage duels would more often than not turn into a 50/50 on a good day, which is not a recipe for staying in a rank.
To rank up again, consider your resources more (ult, speed boost, etc), and try to play with a bit more intention of what you want as a playmaker on your team. How do you think you can assist your allies, your tank, peel for your fellow support etc, rather than just focusing on all the individual skills like duelling and stalling point and applying solo pressure. You need to learn how to adapt your playstyle according to the teams you play with/against. Do you get more value from solo duel and contest playstyle? Or as a team playmaker and peeler? You need to play both well, and know when to adhere to one over the other.
Lucio's ult is one of those you have to be very methodical about, same as Zen. You are not guaranteed impact if you just use it "proactively" with no plan in mind, and without a team that actively is in a position/mindset to benefit from it. On the other hand it can prevent a lot of 'would've been' team wipes or major fight swings in the enemy's favor.
Focus more on how your speed boost as a utility tool can help those on your team, especially your tank, as it will multiply their ability to manage the tempo of the match as a whole.
good movement, plays a lot better than most silvers. I'm one of those that have played a lot of quick play, and didn't start doing ranked until I was past lvl 200 either. So yeah the initial ranking was higher then tanked down to bronze, and up to gold, and yoyo due to just solo ranked grind. So I can understand the ranking, but agree totally that he will go further, especially as his ranked experience grows!
One of the first tips i heard for console lucio is rebinding jump off of x/a and moving it somewhere easier to use (i use L1 to jump/wallride and L3 the stick button for crossfade)

thats what i do and its great but jumping input is a lot worse i tried out lucio on a friends pc and wow idk how to use a pc for gaming and yet lucio wallriding was instanly easier
Yup. He goes from impossible to play to easy to play once you do this. Although it's more ideal if you have an elite controller with paddles it's better to use those, since you end up having to remap your boop to something less ideal. Either it's clicking the analogs (which can result in messing up your movement/aim), or you replace boop with your jump button, which requires you to lift your thumb from the right analog, so it's difficult to do crazy wall riding boops

"speeding in" might be the right play in high ranks but, without comms, in silver, it is a way to end up alone in front of the enemy team

if anyone is curious.. i play both PC and consol so my experience with lucio on both is that mnk has a higher skill ceiling to get used to the movement but its definitely easier once you get used to it because on controller you have to adjust your sens to a good fit for you to have the same movement while not screwing up your aim (especially during speed boost), where as with the mouse you can just use an arm flick to do a 180 without sacrificing your aim by putting your sens too high.
PC players are too braindead to understand this bc they think MnK has a higher skill expression & that aim assist is an advantage lmao
Getting gold/plat from your first placements and then falling to bronze has always been very common with new OW players, including OW1. It's just that the first placement matches aren't necessarily enough to produce an accurate assessment of the player's skill level. More games brings more accurate results, so a player whose skill level is bronze will eventually have their rank approach bronze. Rank doesn't equal skill.

I am one of those people who play Qp for soooo long and I’ve recently tried dipping into comp. I’ve been playing since march and I have never been ranked.

I used to only play qp than like a few months maybe a year before ow2 came out i started playing ranked now im gold tank and support and plat dps (strange bc i dont play dps much)
I've been continuously playing since the release of OW1. I got about a thousand hours of quickplay, never touched ranked. from watching vods, i'd say i'm on the Gold/Plat Border skillwise.
I'm playing only quickplay since years... I long outgrew my rank from when I played it. But I just can't be bothered to put in the grind and play with teammates that are as brain dead as I was when I started playing. Also, I like the short matches and que times

As someone who switched from console to PC when OVW2 came out, wallriding is 100% easier to do on console if that's what you already know how to do.

Sad to say I’ve played qp just as much and am also a Lucio main. I’ve been stuck in bronze and silver for months. Not sure what I’m doing wrong but chances are this guy isn’t climbing
I have like 1000 hours and only like 20 in comp (only to get 1 gold weapon). I've been thinking about playing some comp this season to see where I stand now, I was Gold 2 like 600 or 700 hours ago.
I only played arcade and quick play till the last like 6 months of overwatch 1 and I placed silver and now I’m diamond now
I have 700 hours in quick play. I'm probably around diamond/plat if I played more ranked, but I enjoy the shorter games in quick play more. I see no difference between ranked and unranked, other than I can leave a game at any point if I need to with no punishment
Im also a quickplay player and the main reason which keeps me from playing ranked more often is the other players. My QP games feel a lot more professional than any ranked games so far and toxicity is almost non-existent. I think thats the main reason Quickplay is much more popular than ranked.

Lucios movement on controller is good but adding combat with movement is almost impossible on controller unless you have paddles. There aren’t enough comfortable buttons to have good movement and have good aim unless you have paddles
You’re totally right about being a high level and never playing ranked. I’ve been playing since season 2 and have more hours than this person in unranked. I never touch ranked. It’s just less stressful after a long day 🤷♀️
if i'm honest, I can't wait till rank reset, I've been hardstuck silver EVEN IF I GO 5-0, I am a lucio/hanzo main and was plat 5 and gold for the longest time, until school started.

I'm actually like this Lucio in terms of just playing unranked, now for the past month, I'v gotten into ranked.
I would suggest waiting to play competitive until next season when they update the system. They're going to be reworking how ranking works because it's pretty busted right now. To give you an idea, I had a hard time playing Support in Overwatch 1 and was in Silver/Gold. When Overwatch 2 released, I ranked up to Diamond within a single season, meanwhile I was Diamond in Tank role for a long time and somehow deranked to Gold and my Gold lobbies were even harder than my lobbies while playing Support in Diamond lol
i played quick play for 600 hours straight and then one day i was like “imma try ranked” and i landed in gold and now im high masters 😂

Sorry but if he isn’t switching even with Lucio/Zen or when a Mercy is pocketing a dps like Sojourn, he doesn’t deserve to go anywhere. His gameplay might be good but the decision to go Lucio with a Zen or Mercy is breaking the deal.
I only started playing a few months ago. Can you tell me why Lucio/Zen or Lucio/Mercy is bad? Is it due to low damage numbers for the supports?
@@thefaceoffuzz , I started when OW2 came out, but I think this is not desirable because Lucio can heal OR speed, mercy can heal OR dmg boost and zen doesn't have the best heals overall. I think it is because the heal numbers aren't as great as other duos.
@@thefaceoffuzzthey cant provide nearly as much impactful healing. Both are slow heals over time. Dps'ing on support is fine and dandy but you need both heals and dmg. If I play ana and my other supp is lucio I know I have to cover the heals that are otherwise not there. You need at least one supp that can heal multiple targets effectively (not heal botting but increased focus)

@@thefaceoffuzz , no problem! we all need this, I'm a support main too( I main Lucio). For me, rank does not reflect skill, I'd say I'm better than my rank. So don't stress about your rank. I only play rank for the fact you swap attack and defense after the round ends.
