    Hey! I'm the Ana here :). Sadly I could not watch this live but I appreciate a lot you selected this vod!
    I understand everything you commented and watching it now I can see how sometimes I was so tunnel focused on doing damage while I could boost more my team and try to get better teamfights overall, as well as I was risking my positioning.
    About the habilities, I was trying to be proactive to land more darts and nades but yeah, I totally feel that I could be more patient and even when I remember what I was trying to do, I can see that doing that left my team and me unprotected for the fight.
    Just for you to know, I've been playing since season 3 and since this vod I climbed back to gold :) but I'll work hard to be able to reach plat soon applying all your advices.
    Again, appreciated!

      In itself, doing damage isn't a bad thing. In fact, I'd say it's a great way to be proactive. But never forget that you're a support. Make sure your allies aren't in danger, and then continue to do damage (Without falling in a tunnel, remember that while you're not healing, your allies are taking damage)

    this person falls into a very common Ana trap - people think that hitting a sleep dart means you are morally, ethically, and legally obligated to try to get that kill, and they tunnel vision on it and forget about literally everything else.
    no. you can use the sleep dart to buy yourself several seconds to get to safety. nade doesn't do as much damage as it used to, and Ana's primary fire doesn't do as much damage as it used to. if the target is full hp when you sleep them, you do not do enough damage as Ana to be guaranteed to kill them on your own. it is much better to use the sleep dart to get away and stay alive instead of trying to get a kill on your own, which is what this person does a lot of the time.

    • @satamiko

      I do perfectly enough damage with shot-nade-punch-shot or shot-nade-shot-punch, honestly. Of course, not if it is something like a Tracer with a recall or a Mei with freeze, Sombra with translocator (maybe sometimes)... But Ashe, Hanzo, Genji, Cassidy, anything like that - my sleep usually means death to them, as long as I do have my nade.

    This player has the support syndrome of "if they are not in front of my current los, then they're not my problem". They are doing well weaving damage and healing when necessary, when everyone is in front of their scoped shots. But as soon as an ally is off to the side, or lord have mercy, behind them.. well, then it's like they don't exist.
    And you might ask, "how do you know if someone behind you is critical hp??". Well, you make a habit of keeping track of YOUR SURROUNDINGS every once in a while. To be an effective support player, you need to have a general idea of where everyone is on the battlefield, so that you can instinctually get a gut feeling for when someone might be in trouble or not. See a lot of shots going past you on your right side? Chances are they're poking down your Widow who's besides you on the balcony. So check and see if she's actually getting hit or not, takes .1 second to do a quick glance.
    If you want a simple guide rule to follow, try to at least check 360 degrees every time you reload or have a lingering animation from an ability etc. Use this downtime to look around and check up on everyone's positioning and health, who's getting pressured most, who's moving forward, who's falling back, etc. And to be clear, this is not enough to get good support awareness, but it's the bare minimum that can help you get started with building good habits.
    The key to having a good foundation as support, is that you should always have focus on saving criticals, and applying pressure when nobody is critical. It's a simple but effective rule of thumb to expand on with your personal flair. If anyone is allowed to be critical for more than half a second and then die, you should ask yourself why you didn't save them. Simple as that.

      @ivnmsqr8649 Před 7 měsíci +3

      Thanks bud, I'll try to be more aware on this. I feel that on other supports is easier to me to check how my teammates are doing, but maybe on Ana (I don't know if it's due to scoping or what) I become more tunnel visioned.
      Appreciated!

    • @sethescope
      @sethescope Před 7 měsíci +1

      @@ivnmsqr8649 honestly, it's most likely the ability to scope in that sometimes messes with you and everyone else who plays Ana. none of the other supports have a built in mechanic that literally gives them tunnel vision lol so it's natural that it's easier to tunnel vision on her, although of course we all can do that sometimes no matter what hero we play.

    • @Real_MisterSir
      @Real_MisterSir Před 7 měsíci +3

      @@ivnmsqr8649 It tends to be a phenomenon linked to pursuing the most apparent/convenient value, when your hero incentivizes you to scope in, do damage, have -tunnel- scope vision, it is normal to give more attention to the value that is visible to you, since our sight is our strongest and most fundamental sense as human beings. And here, Ana has a strong pitfall because there is always convenient value for her to pursue, no matter the range, angle, etc. You can always find _something_ to do right in front of you, unlike some other heroes that have range penalties or ability limitations or damage falloff etc. Ana requires a lot of discipline because there is so much she can do at all times, so prioritizing what value to focus on is paramount.
      Idk if you played in OW1 with 2CP maps, or just any map with strong choke points. Most players of mid-low ranks would start shooting at the first enemy they see, they will stop in the choke because their convenient value is right in front of them (but typically in a very defensive position), and the attackers getting through the choke would lose track of other objectives like off-angling, taking high grounds, passing choke without shooting etc. Most of these players couldn't resist the temptation of stopping to shoot the enemy at first sight, and forget about the value around them, the value of not losing time fighting an unwinnable battle in a choke point. They'd just tunnel vision on the value that was right in front of them.
      It's perhaps an odd analogy, but it's the exact same phenomenon at play when you're focused (especially while scoped in) on what's in front of you, what value seems convenient and ready for you to pursue in the moment. And like I said there is ALWAYS value to pursue in the moment, especially with Ana, so it requires extra discipline to snap out of the value-chasing state of mind once in a while to see if less convenient value around you actually offers you higher reward (such as healing a critical hp widow standing next to you for multiple seconds).
      It aint easy, but if you're trying to be mindful of it then I promise you it will become more natural with time, and you'll climb for sure. U got the mechanics for it, even if they're sometimes a bit rushed. Again, that too comes with experience :)

Yeah keep healing your team playing the most broken role only lol... supports have so many chances to kill and not get punished because of their abilities and passive making them get away with picks dps and tank cant normally get.

    This reminds me of a game I had a while back. I was on mercy playing on eichenwalde, defense first. We held for a while first point then got rolled until 3rd point where they capped with 4 minutes. On attack, we rolled them on first point all the way till 3rd point where we got held almost into overtime. We capped with, I kid you not, 0.7s. Back to defence, we managed to ALMOST full hold them for the 5 minutes, but they managed to cap and push just past the first gate. Back to attack, with only 1 minute to win this, we absolutely steamrolled past the choke, capped first and pushed to the gate where we got held into overtime, only just managing to win thanks to the ult economy.

      You can't ask people to risk their positioning every single time to heal you and dps per example usually are very heal dependent (they don't take cover, don't go for the heal packs etc).
      I try to take care on any role, to die the less possible and have health packs accesible for me so the supps can create fine scenarios to do a play.

Instead of just staying scoped in and ignoring your surroundings, please try to learn how to quick scope so you can focus more on the whole fight instead of just afk healing the tank. Yes you were reacting to being flanked, but a lot of the time you were scoped in, so you weren’t able to react quickly enough, and it seemed to really throw you off. A good example of this happening was at 27:07. If you were quick scoping instead of basically being afk, you would not have died there, even with the bad positioning.

    Sorry boomer Emongg, this isn't 2022 anymore, that combo doesn't one shot, 70+60+30 is not 200...

    its like a silver ml7 viewer. trying way too hard to be snappy/quickscopey and hitting big nades/sleeps but the mechanics arent there at all. barely anything lands and ends up wasting so much time and cooldowns while the team does most of the work

      Hi, Ana main here. Nah, I prefer hitting a good nade that allows my teammates like Genji and Tracer have fun in the back. Seeing my Genji dash through 3 anti-ed enemies with low HP is beautiful.

    I can understand the feelings of the Ana player ; she is the only hard counter to the enemy team (Roadhog, Sombra, Reaper) cause she has a hard cc (her sleep). I couldn't understand why her tank stay Zarya all the game if she is the only frontlane ; Echo and Mercy should never loose space when there were no hitscan to stop them. And what about the peeling of her second dps, Cassidy, Torbjorn, Mei or even Symmetra would have been good choice to stop enemy dps flank free. Yes she dps too many times and I would be really not surprised that she could the second damage dealer in her team. In my opinion, she just lack of patience, when she see the payload moving foward while her team go back 4vs2, she want to play the objective even if it is not her role. My only advice for her would be to try play 5-10 games playing only ana as a healer not a support, a 0 damage challenge and see the difference even if it could end as deranking.

      Hey! I'm the Ana here, thank you for commenting :).
      I can't actually recall the exact numbers but yeah, I had one of the biggest dps and healing in the match, and yet I was a little frustrated because my teammates were pinging for healing when I was not able to heal them (when Sombra was diving or other situations) and I feet that their positioning was not the best but I want to focus on what I could do better and find the balance emongg is talking about here.
      I'll work on it, ty!

      That zarya carried that game, and the mercy literally was the only healer on the team. And mercys healing out put is already not very good, the ana needed to understand that and realize theyre the main healer this game. Sorry but you’re not helping out much by doing small amounts of dmg when your team is dying and critical. Which is exactly what this ana did. I’ve never won with a dps heavy ana, not one who also wasn’t doing absurd amounts of healing. And I’ve lost many games from a dps neglectful ana. 15k heals, isn’t great. Especially on ana when this game went into ot.

    Missing a lot of shots. Scoped and unscoped. Ana ain't for you man. Her main value is the ability to win a team fight with just a nade (assuming no Kiri) so nail those nades.

    "We are all gonna have bad positioning sometimes" "This happens to me too" "We all miss our sleeps sometimes"
    This is why Flats needs to carry you
    (This is a joke by the way... also might be too mean so I appologise for this if its too personal)

    Ngl guys you can hate me for this if you want but I am plat dps but almost bronze support and I keep it this way on purpose. I think its so fun to be able to run into the entire enemy team and not die on support and fuck up their Hanzo or some shit lmaoo. I do still heal my team but at least once a fight I just run in and do whatever I want. Its so much fun.

      For that, you have quick play. Don't be the teammate that keeps others down low just because 1 person's fun is more important than 4 others... QP is literally for that.
