They fired all the tolkien experts in favor of just doing their own thing, and they literally only hired activists who also happen to be actors for major roles, rather than trying to get the best actors for the roles. These actors only seem interested in how diverse the show will be, and how they can completely change the characters to how they want them to be. I'm all for diversity but it seems like that's literally all they care/talk about in interviews. Huge red flag. You can have your diversity but the quality of the show better come first, and they don't seem to give a rat's a** about that. They didn't tell King Viserys he had a choice to save either his wife or child this misunderstanding keeps getting repeated by channels. He was told he had a choice "To sacrifice one or to lose them both". He then goes to tell the king "A technique is taught at the Citidel to save the child". He's never told they can save his wife the only choice the Viserys' has is to do a procedure that will kill his wife but save the child. If they knew how to do a Nine month abortion without killing the mother they certainly didn't tell the King they did.

      I think it was a mistake on the showrunners part, since they clarified what they actually meant in the "After the episode." Sacrificing one could be interpreted as the choice being either one of them. That was how I interpreted it before I learned what choice Viserys actually had.

    • @rawrbeez6625
      @rawrbeez6625 Před 2 lety +24

      @@AW-xc1xc I respectfully have to disagree; she had had 5 miscarriages before this, and she was maxed out on milk of the poppy. The reason they needed to try and take the child out is because he would have died in the womb without being able to get out and breathe; but no matter what happened the mother would have had to finish pushing the baby out which was impossible without the c section anyways because the baby was coming out feet first. So the only choices were attempt to save the baby, or let the baby die in the womb and the mother die expelling it.

It may not have had a shock value moment like GoT ep 1 had, but I could definitely feel the tension. It did a great job introducing the characters and the dynamics. I really enjoyed this pilot. It may not have had a big moment quite like the intro to the White Walkers or Branns fall, but it certainly wasn’t forgettable. Knowing what the story becomes, this semi-slow buildup is fine with me. I just hope people give it a chance until then because I know most GoT fans will love it when it gets to the real meat of the story. Also I thought the “Aegon’s secret dream only to be told to heirs” was a bit odd. Ive seen others say that the dream is actually mentioned somewhere in a book, but it feels a little forced. Unless they’re planning to explore it more in the plot I hope they don’t bring it up much because it could just remind people of the sour taste S8 left.

      I think the C-section scene was to show us what Rhaenyra will be fighting for during the war. It’s not just about her being queen, it’s about changing the role of women in that world. She doesn’t like that she was never able to make her father truly happy like a son could, because women are just baby-machines meant to produce more sons and die doing it if necessary. And the fact that her mother was compelled to keep producing long after her body was past its prime just for the sake of making a son, when he already had a perfectly capable daughter, will likely be her main motivation.

I was hysterical and screaming and scared...obviously not as bad as that because my right side was numb... but I felt it and was able to connect to that scene where it really moved me. @Talking Thrones the episode was overall well done, whether you want to look at 1st half or 2nd half. They spent just the right amount of time to setup the characters and get things going. If you compare to GoT's opening episode (which honestly I don't think is a good line to go down because then you'll end up comparing every numbered episode from this series to GoT when its a different thing) then yeah a cliffhanger end or opening is missing. But looking back it now, the opening Whitewalker scene from GoT didn't really impact the story going forward since nobody believed the survivor and then he got beheaded later on. Anyway this was a brilliant start.

If he doesn't choose, the birth can't happen so mother and child don't survive. And the king chose to save the baby by killing the wife.
      Makes sense for the time period, especially if you consider that even if she lived she wouldn't give him more children, but still I found the scene very disturbing, because it was so clear she didn't get any say in the matter and she wanted to live. I've watched the first episode 2x so far. My expectations were extremely high and they exceeded it so far. Can't believe they used real dragons in the show. Looking forward to seeing the rest of the season!!

    Didn´t quite like the CGI, even though many years have passed since GOT, and their budget increased inmensely, CGI looked overdone, poorly animated, and too artificial/fantasy oriented. I loved GoT compositing, much more realistic and down to earth

    I was genuinely surprised with how good this episode was. I have a few nit-picks but those are mostly aesthetical when it comes to some of the armor. Other than that, solid 10/10 and I'm excited for the episodes to come.
    Nice to be back on the format again

    They really raised the bar with this show, After reading the novellas and the book over and over the last three years, felt good to be able to see it play out on the screen

    I feel kinda sorry for Daemon Targaryen, how they misunderstood his "heir for a day" remark.
    The scene before rhaenyra's proclamation as heir is a big revelation.

      "Heir for a day" if I'm not mistaken. It was kind of a sleight on the Kings dead son. Not a good thing to say.

      @@TangoNevada you (like OTTO) are twisting the Situation and taking it out of context. And I think you know that.
