- Welcome back for another Game of Thrones and House of the Dragon video. In this video, I will be talking about House of the Dragon's new episode, A Son for A Son. This is my House of the Dragon Season 2 Episode 1 Explained video. Let's talk about everything that happened in this episode! The first scene opens in Winterfell, as we see Lord Cregan Stark holding a ceremony for men joining the Night's Watch. The next scene is at the Wall, where Jacaerys & Lord Cregan Stark speak about their families past alliance. Cregan Stark also hints at his knowledge of the White Walkers! Rhaenyra finds Lucerys and Arrax, Daemon and Rhaenys face off, Aegon II Targaryen sits the Iron Throne, Alicent and Ser Criston Cole take their relationship to the next level, and Blood & Cheese have entered the game! This was a very interesting episode, with a lot of surprises. Leave me your thoughts down below. Thanks for watching!

Since Arrax was most likely hatched from the clutch of eggs from Syrax, I thought it was so touching that Syrax also mourned with Rhaenyra on the shore.
great point no one has talked about.
True, but she would have mourned anyways as Rhaenyra is her rider. Syrax feels what she feels, just as Drogon mourned with Dany when Jorah died during the battle.
That's why that scene had me crying like a baby 2 mothers crying for their dead children. 😢
Same😢😢😢@@moondra3481
@@moondra3481 i hope you are ready for summer 2026
When Jace came to tell Rhaneyra about securing the Stark's allegiance while fighting back the tears, Rhaneyra was pretty much like "forget all that 'your grace' crap, come here to mommy". ..😢😢😢
😂 rightfully so
I got teary eyed in that scene. Ngl as a parent and a brother that shot hit home
Such a good scene in my eyes. You can feel the emotion on the screen
The actor playing Jace said that he has little siblings and he imagined not having them to create the right emotions for that scene with Rhaenyra.
Harry's acting is awful! Just awful. Stop pretending otherwise
Before they showed the castle at the beginning i was already smiling just by looking at the environment and knowing it was Winterfell
The music was a hint too, playing The Starks theme gave me a huge smile, because I was finally going to see Cregan❤❤❤ it was worth the wait for that opening
I got teary just hearing the Stark theme again!
That first scene reminded me of the first scene of GoT except with much less snow. And music...🥳
The acting in the first episode was almost flawless. The layers to these characters, my goodness.
Funny that anyone sits the throne and gets cuts and Aegon chillaxin getting drunk feet up
When he first set down to talk to the small folk, it did stick him.
Only those not worthy of being king get cut, and so far we only seen Viserys get cut
@@rocjones6543liar.
Wrong many are cut by the trhone. The show has massively reduced its references.
Joffrey in GoT also got cut. Wouldn't say he was worthy, imho.
I love how everything Otto schemed and plotted to put into place is blowing up in his face. And Alicent is just as big of a hypocrite with Criston Cole. Cant wait to see their downfall
😂
Hi, is sir criston cole raenarys' baby daddy? Forgot name of her baby daddy
That's a wild take considering her and her line ruin the line
@@henriettakanya8605 Harwin Strong is her kids father.
@SyteJackson ohhh ok, lol wow. Thanks a bunch. I'll look up what he looks like. Don't remember to see where he shows up on screen
It's also possible that Dany's dragons could cross the Wall because the magic was broken when Bran and Rickon ventured north and there was no longer a Stark in Winterfell.
Much more fun theory than the likely answer of “D&D didn’t consider it”.
Magical barrier stops dragons because they're magic
@@rexibhazoboa7097This is 100% what happened and it’s annoying af.
@@rexibhazoboa7097 I really wish you were wrong, but I'm absolutely convinced that is the real reason - at least until we get the end of the book series.
Niiiiiice
The new intro sequence is beautiful, hope to see it continue expanding the tapestry
Lazy writing on D and Ds part thats why the dragons flew beyond the wall
Yes ! this is all there is to it, nothing more.
Jon being in trouble kinda makes sense tho
tbf the magic of the wall was probably broken when brand crossed the wall while being marked by the nightking like that, plus danys dragon is far more powerful than any dragon that we have seen since George said they were born at the peak of magic which is why they grew so fast. to put it into perspective drogon is seven when dany died and aarax was 14 years old
When the children of the forest died off so did their spells on the wall
@@Hendricks45 the walkers are children of the forest magic too so they should've died too when the children died. it all makes no sense, D&D just fumbled is the only explanation
Sir Criston Cole
Master of tounge
I wish they would do a series about the long night
Never forget how they hyped the Night King up for YEARS only for him to get 10 minutes screen time and killed in the most pathetic way possible... they ruined GoT.
That single scene destroyed the TV GOTs. I’ve never rewatched the series
Soon AI will allow people to rewrite that entire season and vote it as the replacement. 😂
Ah, so refreshing for your reviews and analysis. Looking forward to each one of them. Thanks!😊
Glad you like them!
@@TalkingThronesI don't. You're spineless. Season one was utter crap and you know it. Get a job, a real job. Do you know what one of those are?
fantastic episode, honestly so glad it back, you could tell the budget has increased, the scale of the show is so much more grander and immersive, damn i'm so happy!! 😂
The actor who portrays Cregan Stark in House of the Dragon (HOTD) also portrayed young Uthred in the Netflix series The Last Kingdom (TLK).
In addition, other actors from TLK currently appear in HOTD, Ewan Mitchell (Aemond Targaryen and Osfeth) and Phia Saban (Helaena Targaryen and Aelfwynn).
That's a show I still need to watch. I remember GRRM giving it praise years ago.
Baby monk grew into a really badass man
@TalkingThrones Please watch it.
The Last Kingdom originally aired on BBC in its first two seasons. Netflix took over in season 3. A lot of amazing performances, but David Dawson as King Alfred and Alexander Dreymon as Uthred are my favorites.
Holy crap, that’s where I saw Aemond from
TLK
I like how every so often ppl screamed dragon like an attack was coming but they were false alarm
We want Night King and his motivation to cross the wall ✅
I was "anxiously awaiting" your video!
More to come!
WE'RE BAAAAAAACK!!! Good to have you breaking it down again brother.
So happy to be back watching your videos again buddy
Welcome back!
Emma is the one best actor for portraying emotion without needing words. Their performance is outstanding 👌💯
Pandering, at it's finest. You're only saying that because she's 'non-binary' 😂 you're just sad bro, a sad little man 🤏🏻 she's not bad, but not the best by a long shot. Everybody tops her, apart from Harry. He's awful, she isn't though. Emma's good, she's doing her job well. She has potential 😊 but stop pandering bro, it's not attractive at all! It just shows you can't think for yourself, you have to be told. Do you have a bf? I can make you happy for a few hours, you look like you need some bwc 😂 that'll shut you up lol
I never got the sense people didn't know about the Others. It's just that people stopped believing in them.
Because it’s been thousands of years past. There’s always the tendency for people to forget their history and as generations pass by, no one believes it anymore and consider it folklore or bedtime stories
To touch on the topic “Dragons & the Wall.”
Here’s one point that I noticed , after Viserion was tagged and abruptly killed by the NK using an ice spear. Rhaegal then let out a huge dragon scream (roar) sounding as if he was wounded and hurt too. At that same time Rhaegal then made some flights of fancy maneuvers outwards to get away from any other cataclysmic dangers the NK may of delivered onto him, consequently ending his life as well. I thought that was an incredible feat by Rhaegal. Because one would think a dragon would want to burn and destroy whatever or whomever it is trying to bring the end of its life.
🔥🐉🖤
My favorite scene from S2E1 was Rhaneys flying into the Dragonmount on Meyleys!! SO BADASS!!
Thank you for your videos, they got us all through the long night! (Aka the interminable wait for S2)😂❤
I love these videos ❤️ I got from the episode straight to this channel
I'm happy to have you back in my life. Sorry, I wasn't a massive supporter like those you mentioned, but I'm here now. Thank you for the vids and deep lore knowledge. Makes the show so much better for me.
I think that Eddard Stark just never got told everything, he was the second son and out of the north for most of his youth.
I was a frequent viewer of yours from end of 7th season of game of thrones, but never subscribed. And only remembered you, post house of the dragon season 1 ending and couldn’t find you. Yes when Cregan mentioned giving Jace the Grey Beards! I can't wait!
I honestly hope GoT season 7 and 8 get retconned eventually regarding the whitewalkers/Jon Snow. I really don't know how they'd make it work but I like to think of the ending we got as just a fan made ending and not cannon. When they talk about winter and death in HOTD and even the prophecies, it really brings it down knowing how badly handled it ended up being. I think it's in their best interest to retcon it for other titles as well.
They sort of did, pay close attention to Helena's (auto correct) drawings in her room it shows the symbols it even shows Dany and her 3 dragons. I watched it in slow motion and saw it again..Aha she can see far into the future, just like the tapestry opening is showing the history ❤❤
Great work first... Now I'm going to watch the video
Great start, thank you for sharing season 2 with us Its good to continue living the world of ice and fire, there are some of us who never want to see it end
Keep these great videos coming 🔥🎉
4:09 why did Danny’s dragons cross?? Cause DND needed to hurry the story along and didn’t care about the lore anymore.
Thanks, this was helpful!!!
About Dany's dragons passing the Wall: Benioff and Weiss messed up. That's all there is to it.
The North Remembers. Which is especially true during this time in the saga. Creegan knew, Vicerys KNEW the white walkers were always the bigger issue.
thanks for the video
Ευχαριστώ πολύ για το βίντεο! 🇬🇷
Anyone else think that Larys is a warg, and is able to effectively spy on the city so well because he is occupying the minds of all the rats that are displayed in so many scenes? The rats are visible during many important conversations. They even had the Targaryen girl foreshadow something sinister about the rats now.
Love your channel !! 👏
Really appreciate the kind of effort you put in detailing the story and roll out. Big fan :)
Much appreciated!
I don't think the Stark's know about Aegon's dream. I think they've been expecting the night walkers to return ever since the long night. (It is known)
When you first see Rhaneyra on that mountain, this is what make shows amazing that actress portrayed everything in 1 facial expression. You felt pain, grief, betrayal and anger all in one ❤❤😢
And is it just me or Matt Smith was made to play Deamon
You’re the best, always!!!
A lot of people thought that the episode was slow, but I agree with you. It’s a great start for the season. It’s in Game of Thrones realm, everything is supposed to be slow and took their sweet time.
Also agree that the Blood and Cheese scene can be improved. I haven’t read the book but people always talk about this event so I kinda have high hopes.
Yesss!! I missed these videos.
Great job!
Emma Darcy should get nominated for Oscar for her performances in this series.

The sheer scope of Game of Thrones will be hard to match. But I am begining to enjoy House of the Dragon now. The sheer size of Vhagar is astonishing. Its brooding prescence in the scene where young prince Lucerys Velaryon visits storms end is nothing short of terrifying. With Winterfell featuring in Season 2 I think we can honestly say House of the Dragon is begining to warm up. It might yet rival Game of Thrones afterall. I would like to see more interaction and involvement of sub-characters and background storylines to broaden and deepen the overall tale.
I love the way they introduced Alyn and teased Addam. Watching Alyn see how heartbroken Corlys is over losing his "heir" that isn't even of his blood and seeing the hurt in Alyn's face knowing his true relationship to Corlys. That was a beautiful, subtle moment that not a lot of people shouted out but I can't wait to see more of them.
Wow that was tense!
Nice, u said "no words will undo whats already been done" thats what Tryion said at the white walker showcase meeting of the houses saying those same words adding on "..already been done for centuries" or something❤good job man
Thank you for your videos! And I had the same reaction to the raven, the gorgeous scenery, (where I lived for a couple of years way way back in the day), and Winterfell coming into sight, made me sigh with pleasure like seeing an old friend after years and years. The striking resemblance to Bran @1.35, and the raven wasn't lost on me...but as a show fan who hasn't read all of the books, I await the various ways that this could foreshadow GoT. Like S1 E1, when the first scene was beyond the wall. It sets up the season nicely, I feel and the several layers of interpretation in the generations of ASOIAF. And I am pleased to see you we share some broad ideas. Even though this book and show is primarily about one particular piece of the puzzle of that universe.
Jace arriving back and his trying to hold his tears back was heartbreaking.
@7.30 YES! The more glimpses of humanity and vulnerability fromone of the "enemies", is the way, that it becomes less black and white. Or black and green in this case. I'll, shut up now..
Don't even get me started on Cole...I just heard you talk about "sharing those delicious feet", 😂😂.
I think it’s awesome that the way the filmed it adds to the lore. The real events should differ from the telling. So the tale told is more brutal to paint the assassins as bloodthirsty in all regards but the quick death they portray for the prince. 🏰 🐉
The problem I see with people making petition as you said, is I think most can't write or read. So the. People have to take time to come to the castle twice one to submitt ther request and 2nd to be heard.
Been watching since your Game of Thrones breakdowns
To see so much passion put into thinking up this fictional world. Channels like this keep it so rich and layered. You would think it would take a dozen teams decades to make up something like this. I've been drawn in and love it. I thought the old days were gone of watching HBO Sunday night create a masterpiece. I think this show is just that.
When I heard the Stark theme start up and saw the crow I teared up !!
Home sweet home!
I had the opportunity to watch this first episode at a cinema, thanks to Transylvania International Film Festival,it was a full house, sold out tickets, plus we received a Targaryen bag and a poster from the organisers, was absolutely epic
I love the mark on Bran's arm suggestion. That actually makes sense.
I find it weird that aegon the second was so calm in that throne scene😂😂.
It’s because he doesn’t understand or care.
Look at both Aegon and Rhaenyra’s entrances into the throne room.
It’s a joke to Aegon
It’s everything to Rhaenyra because she wants to honor her fathers wishes.
He is aloof because he’s a sociopath/narc
No, you expected Joffrey. And because he cares about the people, you're disappointed? You're so disingenuous, just stop. It's really pathetic
@@Persephone_Personifiedif anyone doesn't understand, it's you buddy. No cap. You want him to be a bad King so desperately! Season one conditioned you to think this way, sheep have to follow I suppose 😂 clearly, he cares about his people, he cares alot. Enough to stand up to his grandfather and support the smiths arming his cause. Its clear that you want Aegon to be like Joffrey, so you can point your finger and say that's the bad guy. Sorry buddy, that's not how the story is told. Move on, or learn to cope. Aegon is King, he sits the throne like he was born to it, because he was. All hail King Aegon II, the righful heir. It was so nice to feel the GoT- felling that slowly got lost from GoT season 5-8..
I'm in love with the new intro. Wonder if HOTD is paying royalties to Wheel of Time for that tapestry opening?
I want more stark scenes daaam
THANK GOD for HOD!! This is what we needed after the complete disrespect from the acolytes. RIP STAR WARS
Winterfell is my favorite location, too.
Since the Night King took quite some time to raise and amass his army, is it that hard to believe that The Night King himself might stir from his icy hibernation at the death of the last living dragon?
I have often wondered if this is how the 2 series may share umbilical tissue, so to speak...
There must always be a Stark in Winterfell has to do with the crypts. The Horn of Joramund when blown by a Stark, will raise the dead Starks to fight the Others.
I don’t think ice was what was meant to kill the white walkers.
I think there’s going to be a night king type character that brings the long night. I believe the term the “long night” is a clue.
What ends night?
Dawn. 🗡
That would be Lightbringer 🗡️
@@Meshell_Smiling
Potentially. I don’t think there is going to be a lightbringer that fits the legend. No sword that burns hot. I think that is going to just be a myth.
I think the wall was a barrier for magic that white walkers and anything else magical couldn’t cross and Bran broke spells because he crossed beyond the wall and the Night King was able to touch him while he was using his ability breaking the spells in the wall. Dany only flew over the wall after all of this happened. No dragon ever crossed the wall before then although it was attempted multiple times. I believe the wall was designed to keep the dragons from crossing because the Night King had all kinds of magical creatures in his army of death, but not a dragon until Danny crossed.
I think your theory of the Night King' mark on Bran made it possible for them to cross the wall is plausible.
Pretty sure destroying it with an undead dragon had something to do with it.
@@morokal well Dany’s dragons crossing it in the first place is the discussion here. Apparently, they couldn’t do that before. Bran being marked may have broken the magic that prevented dragons crossing north and white walkers crossing south.
We will never know because that was written by D & D and GRRM will never finish the books.
5:20 it’s funny how Cregan says the wall keeps out death and then the news of Lucerys’s death reaches them from south 🥲
Also graybeards are good, because they are seasoned warriors and they want nothing more than to get into a big fight for one last time. So it’s okay if they die, their numbers can be refilled with blackbeards and brownbeards later ;)
House of the Dragon season 2 was epic! They brought back those old Game of Thrones feelings back...I miss Winterfell and the north! I can't wait till episode 2 this Sunday! 💪🏻
Only one question: How the hell were there ZERO guards guarding the Queen and the HEIRS?
Well, the writers couldn't butcher the most slam dunk scene in the book if things made sense, now could they?
I think the implication is that Ser Cole was suppose to be upstairs guarding everyone but instead was too busy being a giant hypocritical douche by sleeping with Alicent
@@LordDiddyDot I think they also were trying to hint at that back in season 1 too. As soon as I saw where Criston was during Blood & Cheese, I remembered that scene from Driftmark. Remember when Viserys accidentally calls Alicent “Emma” when he tells her he’s going to bed and she looks crushed? Then Lord Commander tells Criston he has the watch. Next time we see Criston, Viserys is demanding to know where the hell he was while Aemond got his eye sliced and he has no answer…but Alicent has a very quick guilty expression on her face. 👀
My take is that some of them were drinking with Aegon, Ser Butthurt was guarding Alicent hard, also Larry Strong had just cleaned house and hadn’t fully restaffed yet
I dont take the dragons crossing The Wall as canon. I dont feel like that came from George, and if it did it's a lot more to it than that.
Agreed. It's not canon.
I love your channel. I just avoided the videos because i would hate it if i get spoilt
Love your reaction, as always.
Btw...did you notice, that Clegan said "my father" received Queen Alisant..., (and King Jahaerys, which was wrong...lol...); but...wasn't it his grandfather??
; ...or was Clegan's father "SUPER OLD" when he was born??!!
I give this episode a solid 8/10 and I love how the show has turned Halaena into the most empathetic, likeable character in Team Green. Considering that Conlan felt he had to squish the timeline by about 20 years and there is no Maelor, I think Blood & Cheese was handled very well. The end result is the same as in the book Yes, it would have been good to see Jace's stopover in the Vale and more time in Winterfell (I guess Mushroom's version of what happened there isn't going to feature) but from an audience perspective, Jace hanging around in Winterfell after he gets news of his brother's death would seem just plain wrong. Of course he had to hurry back.
i can't take my eyes on Ice !!! such a beauty
This is just hinted at in the books (maybe in the show as well), but Helaena's children might not be Aegons but are actually Aemonds. So when Rheanyra calls for Aemonds death and Blood and Cheese kill Jaehaerys it actually could be revenge on some level towards Aemond.
Famous four words: "I want Amemmond Targaryn", "They have the boy" and "Son for a son".
No. Stop pandering, ffs
Alt nod Hull will fight in the Sea Snake’s army. Alan’s brother will become a dragon seed and the new rider of Laenor Valerian’s dragon.
I think your theory about Jon bring a Targaryen in trouble, coupled with Daenerys feelings for him, & her close connection to her dragons, made crossing the ice wall possible
🔥🔥🔥
I'm 100% I saw D+D say that Danny's dragon's just flew around the wall.
Did I miss something because Stark said that "the dragons refused to cross the wall." That doesn't mean they couldn't cross, so why does everyone think magic was preventing them from crossing?
Love ur videos, but I disagree, I don't think toren stark needed a targeryan to tell him about what was north of the wall. The starks of old remember winter.
I thought the same thing about Queen Daenerys dragons, Drogon, Rhaegal, and Viserion. I do believe they knew Jon, a Targaryen, was in danger. If D&D had their heads out of their ass...I mean if they were still writing episodes that they cared about in the end, it would have been a great nod to the history when Queen Alysanne visited Winterfell and the wall and her dragon refusing to fly over the wall. Maybe even seeing Jace's dragon showing some unease at the wall would have also been a great reminder. Plus, all the other lore of Jace at Winterfell, but they only have 8 episodes, and they are trying to push this war along sooner rather than later.
The love in these comments is truly inspiring. Keep it up, everyone!
End of Dance of dragons: Alicent lighting candles for the dead in an insane scene…
Are they gonna put white walkers on this show too? Is it in the book?
RIP little Jaeherys
4:07, maby because d and d didn't care about the source material and were more interested in the spectical
I wanna see Ice being used in battle
i enjoyed the episode but i do have one large critique. i wish it would have been harder for the 2 assassins to reach the "royal level". in the book they had to shimmy up narrow walls which would have made more sense. the way there were no acrobatics or guards made the lives of every character in the show more vulnerable than they should be.
Love your reviews, you explain everything so well. Can't stand Hightower :)
