In the scene with Rhaynera and Criston Cole, doesn't the whole prophecy about the long night passed down to her as heir also affect her decision in that even if she wanted to run away there are bigger things at stake? This is supported by the fact that in the previous episode where she pursued her own desires, instead of just being angry King Viserys shows her the prophecy on the dagger as to remind her of that. Also when she says I am the crownto ser Criston about I am the crown it feels more to say I have a reponsibilty you wont understand instead of it being about her ambition to rule.

It can be under written as he threatened the princess, which he did. Rhaenyra was pushed down during the brawl. No one knows by who. So technically, Criston has an alibi. It was just overkill. Like the guy was already down. A dagger is nothing against your full suit of armor. The shock on everyone's faces. He knows he can't unring that bell. So he was going to do it himself. But Alicent showed him mercy, like he asked earlier in the episode. But it's not in the way he intended.

I didn’t think anyone could make an entrance like Daemon but Alicents late entrance during the kings speech in her green dress trumped his by just a little bit. The scene where she found out she was lied to was a good one, Emily did such a great job conveying her hurt and you knew she was going to be a different person, referring to Rhaenyra as stepdaughter instead of by name made it evident. Also, a friend of mine went on a mission trip to a place where people with leprosy go to get treated. Your statement is incorrect Leprosy does not cause you to lose your limbs. That is a misnomer caused my movies. From my limited understanding, it does 2 things. 1. causes infections and 2. it kills the feeling in ur nerves, basically you can't feel the infection. Two very deadly combination. Basically u get infections do not tend to them bc you can't feel them. As the injury progresses, you lose your limbs because your body basically takes your limbs back by eating them. Another misnomer is that you can contract it by touch. Like aids, it must be blood contact. It is also very treatable now aways. Just wanted to add the nuance to it...haha

What about her reputation? She would be declared a whore and remember poorly forever more. What about her family? Their relationship might be strained, but she does love her father. What about her dragon? If she is meant to hide her identity she won’t be able to take her dragon with her. She’s a 18 year old, that’s scary to abandon everything you know and love.

Rhaenyra telling Criston that she has a duty to the realm and her responsibility lies with the crown (and soothing his bruised heart and ego isn’t more important than that) is not her being a “horrible” person. It’s recognizing the significance of her role as heir….and honestly, if she were a man, it would be written off. But because Rhaenyra is a woman, it is seen as obscene, her behavior “immoral” or, as you put it, a “horrible” person…Wouldn’t running off, embarrassing her father in the process, do more damage? To not just her reputation, but, his as well? Would the scandal of such not cause political turmoil? It is not Rhaenyra’s fault that Criston assumed she would abandon her the crown to run off with him….after knowing the tragic history of her predecessor who did something similar. As Viserys reminded her of 1-2 episodes ago, as much as she may bemoan then shackles of marriage and all of the limitations of being a woman in that era, she understands all too well what befalls women who choose a life of “freedom”. Having heard the tale of how Jaehaerys’ daughter fell into disgrace. Men have the luxury of shirking duty….women, do not.
Last episode it was “Rhaenyra is being irresponsible”; this one, when she does accept her responsibilities, it’s “she’s a horrible person”, for simply doing her duty…which is to marry. She can’t win.

Yes he liked her too, but also, she's the princess and Heir. You really can't refuse her and expect to keep your head or your job. And Rhaenyra used that against him. When she was watching the play with Daemon, she said it doesn't matter what people beneath them want. So Charlie is correct, she knows the rules don't apply to her.
She wants power and agency over her own life as a woman. That comes with a cost.

Rhaenyra understands the rules and expectations of her station well….which is why she got married instead of running off with Criston. If she thought she was above them, then surely she would have chose to abdicate her responsibilities.

Alicent was the good little girl and listened to her father even to the point of flirting/comforting with an old man and eventually marrying him and having his children all the while Rhaenyra is getting to live out her teenage years, while Alicent has to pump out babies and endure being a child bride. Also I get that Criston was hurt or whatever but I feel like he's blaming Rhaenyra.. a young girl.. because he made the choice to give in to temptation but now he's angry at the little girl that didn't want to give up an entire kingdom/the only life she knows to run away with him not bothering to first find out/question if this YOUNG GIRL "loves" him..It's giving entitled just a bit lol.

I’m so glad you made comment to this issue. I find it insulting that Allicent would judge Rhaenyra at this point. Allicent secretly was keeping company with her father, the king for a while and never once mentioned she was doing. She saw Rhaenyra reaction with the king announced their marriage and now she wants to act like how dare you keep a secret. Rhaenyra didn’t actually lie to Allicent about having sex with Daemon, it didn’t happen however Cristin acted like a bitch, to cave and admit to having sex with Rhaenyra without letting Allicent finish asking the question was stupid. Where was his tongue when he and Rhaenyra saw the white stag, which would signify she was the right heir to the throne. Cristin caused all of this. To be mad at Rhaenyra for not giving up her duty to the throne because he gave up his oath as a knight. He could have just said no but instead he said she instigated the sexually act, how could he say no to the princess. Rhaenyra paused to running off with him, she pushed her personal feelings aside for the throne something Daemon never did. The constant comparing of Daemon and Rhaenyra is shameful. The men in HOTD move Rhaenyra and Allicent around like pawns, not caring how they feel about anything because of the realm. Thank goodness for Daenerys.

She can't just leave her freakin responsibilities and run away with someone she isn't even in love with. She didn't speak anything about the whole thing till Ser Cristen is the one who brought it up and proposed. She said she can't avoid her position but suggested if he loved her she can still try to be together as her husband would be okay with it. If he doesn't wanna do that then just let it go and move on with it. But no he had to act possessive and over react like Rhaenyra promised him love or something in one night. But here you are blaming her like she ruined him. It's his fault for being over sensitive and forgetting he can't just run away with a princess and that too heir to the throne. Rhaenyra and Damon are both gorgeous fools, valiant or valorous respectively, but privileged idiots without the sense to know how to get what they want without making carnage and enemies. Her brushing off of Cole's proposal was utter mismanagement, showing scorn for an offer of "oranges and a ship to Essos" instead of the throne; all she had to do was take a regretful, flattered tone instead of the proud one when referring to her duty, and mention the problem of keeping SYRAX while living for love in the Free Cities:) Their pride makes them stupid and cruel, and in his case murderous, but we can't help imagining them wed as Damon asked Viserys-- which would have been an unholy terror of a different sort than the Dance about to begin... And *damn again* I wasn't expecting the pre-wedding party to break out in DOTHRAKI style!

Thank you for making all these great videos! It would be super helpful if you did a video charting the timeline so far like with how much time has passed between all the episodes so far and how old the relevant kids (Rhaenyra, Alicent, Laenor, Laena, and all of their kids) are for all of us having a hard time keeping track, because I'm very confused with how old Alicent's kids look after an only 10 year time jump 😅

Ok, I’ve been thinking since episode 1 when Daemon gave Rhaenyra the necklace that it was to show us that Daemon loves her. This was before she became the heir to the throne, so doesn’t that say something about how he feels? Everyone keeps saying that all he wants from her is the throne.
This also would explain why he stopped the sex in the brothel basement with her - because he couldn’t ruin her. Like his initial purpose of that WAS to soil her but then he couldn’t do it because he does love her, heir or no heir!

Rhaenyra is the one who always finds out his motives. I think he knew, no one knows him better than Rhaenyra (since the Godswood scene on eps 4 and he kinda proud of it).
in the dialogue between those 2, she's trying to provoke him because she knew his real motives. she just trying to stripped down his motives to pissed him off. she know he wouldn't dare to do that and he know she was right. and that's kinda turned him on (?). somehow she's always managed to overpowering him and beat him up over his own game and that makes him frustrated and turned on at the same time. because it always works on everybody except her and we know he doesn't like to lose especially over his own game. idk.
I think he definitely wants her. because tbh, I was in doubt for these past 4 eps and now I'm sure he wants her. but the way he wants her is different from the way Ser Criston wants her. the way Ser Criston wants her is pure love and the way Daemon wants her is kinda like obsession. it's like he wants her but he wants her power too (either her power over him/her power over the Kingdom).

    • @maggyfrog
      @maggyfrog Před rokem +14

spot on. daemon's love for her is gray like his nature. back when he couldn't have her, mysaria could tell how much he's into her. now that he can actually have her if he only took that commitment, somehow his own nature is in the way and at the end of the day, his love for rhaenyra isn't the romantic epic love but more a reflection of his own inner conflicts. at least rhaenyra knows what she wants and what she's prioritizing. daemon probably surprises even himself whenever he makes a decision. poor criston. the guy poured his heart and soul and got looked down on for being lowborn. i like that this isn't in the book fire and blood and that things like their secret affair were forever never written down on history books and completely forgotten except by the godswood that sees all.

He 150% wants her - and I think he doesn’t want the power of the throne for himself (Matt Smith has said as much in interviews) but he does want power for his family name. He sees Rhaenyra has what it takes to wield that and wants to support her, but I think he is also desperately in love with her and her with him. As Targaryens I think love, power, and love of power are all wrapped up together.

He runs his mouth all the time. He's been trying to talk Rhaenyra into marrying him from the first episode and tried it again this episode. He was talked into joining the war by Corlys. It was Leanor's plan for him to go into the cave. He asked his brother to marry Rhaenyra. He went back to the Vale on Viserys's orders. So no, he did not invent chess. He barely plays it well.

Alicent is just being judgmental and quite frankly it’s none of her damn business what Raehnyra does with her body. She can have an opinion, but to get angry and turn against her is too much. Alicent is far from perfect. She was going behind Raehnyra’s back to “console” Visarys and now she wants to act like she’s miss perfect virtue, please. I was so confused when the fight broke out and still don’t get why ser Criston decided to take his anger out on poor Joffrey. This show just keeps getting better and better.
