The biggest loss that Paradox Interactive has had in recent years is Imperator Rome. A game that was made to be a success and a bridge between the EU franchise and the CK franchise, it completely flopped and today we'll check out why and if it's playable now, after the 2.0 patch, and what's the current state of the game.

As long as sicily is named sicily and not Trinacria, then I'll be happy.
In every paradox game, we restore Rome.
Now, we restore a Rome Game.
We are one step away from restoring Rome Proper.
BUT I WANT TO RESTORE GAME PROPER!
@@IquonYT win comment
that's really funny
Ave paradox
Restoring Rome Proper is gonan be difficult.
First we need to rid of the far right winged nationalists who advocate "White supremacy, Christianity" and false non-roman ideals.
Imagine project ceaser was actually imperator rome
Doubtful, given that the date of April 1337 was confirmed for the "unknown" game.
@@wargamesmaster a man can dream
I think that Europa Universalis V will have some mechanics from imperator.
@@marcin7054 most of its modern mechanics are from imperator
@@wargamesmaster What if that was the end date? 😲
step 1 get an old computer and put it in the basement
step 2 launch imperator rome on it and let it running there forever on idle
step 3 watch playtime rack over time
step 4 WATCH PDX RETURN TO DEVELOPING THIS AWESOME GAME
bigbrain move right there
Imperator is my 2nd favorite game from Paradox, just behind EU4, and I love to see the Dev's giving it attention again.
My favorites are EU4, EU3, EU2 in that order. xD
Yeah, would be assume to get a full team on it again. Hopefully he player counts and reviews push PDX in that direction.
Seriously, the 1.2 patch is AMAZING, if they released like this it would have performed so much better.
My favorites are Eu4, Stellaris, Hoi4, Ck3, Victoria 2.
One thing about "imminent peace" in Imperator Rome, it just means that whoever controls the wargoal continuosly for that amount of time can force a peace deal for the wargoal, but the losing side cannot. So in your war against the Sabines and Etruscans, you were in no danger of a peace deal being forced on you, rather once the imminent peace timer was reached you're given the ability to force the AI to accept a peace deal that gives you the wargoal. It's not very useful if you're dominating in a war and can get the AI to accept almost any peace deal, rather it's useful if you have been stuck in a long and difficult war, and want to be able to peace out while at least getting the territory you're fighting for.
It's mostly a multiplayer feature
Wish that was a thing in eu4. Hate being at war with someone and they won't peace out cause someone halfway around the world with no mil access is being stubborn.
@@doubledaredangames after a set time you can white peace allies of war enemies if they have no war contribution
@@dipswewon4701 How long is it? Cause it feels like forever lol
@@doubledaredangames im not sure of the specifics, but its when they get the first tick of negative war enthusiasm from the long war modifier
3:21 Counter point: play as dacians and form dacian empire.
Yes, we want a "Ducks & Trucks" (Dacian & Thracian) playthrough.
Also, I wonder how the player numbers are from the GoG platform for the game, because I have it on GoG, not Steam.
As someone who spent years trying to keep Imperator alive, it feels pretty awesome to see the revival. If it wasn't for the community of modders fighting to keep this game going, we would not have this moment.
I call for a review lovebomb. Lets make it go positive!
i second this!
IM ON IT!
“There was once a dream that was Imperator ROME. You could only whisper it. Anything more than a whisper and it would not get an update.”
"What are your orders, sir?"
"Disband the levies. Fire the mercenaries. Set the legions to Roman Roads."
And I fear, it will not survive the beta.
I actually had a lot of fun simply organizing provinces, founding the exact cities I want, and tearing down all the extra ones. The micromanaging was immensely fun.
I have a few thousand hours in imperator rome. Most mechanics that Ludi "advertised" as "new patch" are just Invictus ( i dont think that Paradox copied the code from Snowlet yet in that regard)
Ayo homie only thing I 'advertised' as 'new patch' is the green thing on surplus.... I also mentioned at the start the mod did a lot and the new patch mainly did fixes as shown.
But don't get me wrong. Without invictus there wouldn't be an imperator. And you will be happy to hear the news to come as it involves invictus
@@LudietHistoria To add some context: In a public chat on the paradox forums, a dev (who didnt work for I:R) was the first to inform the public that Invictus´ bug fixes and some of the code would be implemented into the main game. This shows that Paradox is open to cooperate with Snowlet (Dev from Invictus mod) and the Green thingy and the "bug fixes" that Ludi talked about are mostly from Snowlet (as of public knowledge and the admitment in the public forum)
@@LudietHistoria This definitely wouldn't be happening without Invictus, Invictus was the beating heart that kept the Imperator community alive after the Paradox pulled the plug. Without the Invictus team Imperator would be another forgotten title.
@@LudietHistoria Hope paradox buys invictus and makes it a dlc along with some other items.
Ludi blessing us with so many vids 🥹
my only complaint about Imperator: Rome is that it ends right when Augustus became emperor (Imperator), I don't want to demand too much but just 125 more years up to Domitian (historically) or at the very least another 41 years of content till the (Historical) end of the Julio-Claudian dynasty
0:30 this reminded me of that one clip of the guy going "there are dozens of us... dozens!"
Romanian cursing cartage in an Imperator Rome Video
Facts
@@LudietHistoria I would like a historical video on the Roman Influence or Latin influence on the Dacian/Thracians of the Danube
Man going through tough times right now, im so happy i found your channel to life my spirit up a bit. Its a pleasure to watch your videos my northern neighbor.
You got this! I don't know what's going on in your life but you got his brother! What doesn't kill you makes you stronger!
@@LudietHistoriai really appreciate your support Ludi! Playing Imperator: Rome makes me stronger 🤣 we love you bro, keep making all this massive content, and cannot wait to hear more about EU5.
3:30 it's called Imperator ROME to play brandenburg
YES! honestly i am so thankful for all these content creators decidiing to push this game. it is such a beauty and i am excited what content they will add
I was just playing a game as Rome where I was able to beat Carthage early and would’ve been able to take all of Sardinia, Sicily, and Carthage itself, but the peace deal bugged and it only gave me Carthage and since for some reason I turned on Ironman, I couldn’t go back to before the peace deal due to an auto save immediately after
YES, an 8 hour livestream of IR would be awesome!
Holy crap! Nice! No lie, your video (and from some of the others) inspired me to dust it off and rediscover how much I enjoyed it. So glad that they're doing more with it again! Really a great game.
So basically from what I was told by my little bird, we're super close to full blown expansion level development if we get more people active on the game, not just patches
@@LudietHistoria yooo ima def come back
going on vacation next week, but will definitely jump back in when I get back...always thought this game had potential, and with some of the mods it seems to be great again!
Nice video! Just went and bought IR, I think it'll be good to learn some new machanics that are likely to make it to EU5 🙂
imperator kind of reminded me of sengoku (another paradox title) that was basically used as a testing ground for ck2 features and then never received further support so its wonderful to see imperator getting some support even if it is years later lol. its actually looking pretty good now, i might finally pick it up !
It surely would be awesome to see you stream this game!
If they make it like eu4 with ages events and then a better decline mechanic I’d love to see it
Hi Ludi, love your videos and love Imperator. To shipbuilding - give your Fleet order to Hunt Pirates and you get free ships!
Love you Ludi!!
PLS do more of these Imperator Rome videos!
Absolutely love Imperator Rome, Really happy to see the attention the game is getting. How do you setup the a.i for chaotic? I have never seen that screen
Awesome episode! I really hope that this could be achievable with Attila TW too. Roma Aeterna and Dacia Felix! Greetings from Dacia Malvensis
i was sad when they stopped developing it because, especially after 2.0, it was a really fun game. i likely would have kept playing if the game had kept receiving updates.
Downloaded and installed. You've got me hooked again, Ludi! Strength and Honor.
Imperator was one of the most fun Historical games to play a Tall style in. Was so fun to restore the Delian Legue, conquer Greece, and then make a country strong and technologically advanced enough to stop the Romans feom invading the Balkans. Dynamic mission tree also feels like a nice choice over the EU4/HOI4 set paths.
I have no time to spend on Imperator Rome now, but because of these patches I will give it a try again. This is the BEST LOOKING GAME of all PDX. It feels so GOOD to zoom in and watch the map on details
I never bought or played IR (I don’t have time for every PDX game lmao) but it looks fun and I’m glad that fans of the game will be getting updates!
I played as Seleukid Empire the moment I played the game again with Invictus mod.
Loving all the imperator rome content... been playing almost every day since
would definitely like to see more imperator, I've seen some of the other creators doing it but honestly your vids are the most in depth with the game's systems If I wasn't doing a massive stellaris run right now I might pick it back up, it will have to wait but it's definitely back in my queue of stuff to play.
the levies mapmode is very good because u can raise your levies everywhere in the region
Guess you convinced me to start Imperator: Rome this time for real
One thing to add with surpluses: Always focus on getting food surpluses in your capital first, before any other surpluses (except for maybe 1 or 2 surpluses that increase global happiness or the strength of your most important units, like heavy inf for Roman and Greek cultures) since food surpluses allow your pops to grow much faster and increase happiness around your empire, which makes you much stronger and revolts less likely to trigger. As to which pops you want to prioritise for happiness, it is citizens and freemen, since they produce the most by far, then the nobles (since it decreases the chance for revolts), then the tribesmen and slaves (changes a little when playing a tribe).
I LOVE Imperator: Rome
I hope they'll include this amazing map in EU 5
Its one of the few games I spent a considerable amount of time in to learn the in depth mechanics and they announced they cancelled working on it. I stopped from that day and I have forgotten everything I knew. Very sad.
Thats the best gift this year!
Yaay! This game has so much potential, hope they continue :)
Didn’t even know this game exists. Definitely gonna try it out
MOOOOM! Get the fine plates out! Theres an hour long Lubi Video!
Yes, I would love you to stream it!
I have over 700 hrs with Imperator, so next to EU4, CK3, and Stellaris it is one of my favorite games. I generally played as the Ptolemies. Although I haven't played in a while.
I have no idea how to play Imperator but I am glad it is getting more patches.
Thanks Ludi. Just in time to find it's on sale right now. Been planning to buy this game.
@LudietHistoria You seems to be quite happy playing Imperator: Rome, any plans for a "world conquest" stream?
i need more of this game pleazeeeeee
Its a like a dream seeing Imperator finally getting updates after years of its weird limbo. Thanks man
“Rome wasn’t built in a day” patch and relaunch!
If I had one major suggestion for the team it would be to put thicker outlines for the different regions. I shouldn't have to click on a city in rome to see the area of latium.
Are the patches automatically updated? I only see 2.0.3 in my patches list on steam
You sold me on picking this game up again.
50 mins ludi videos = creamy pie.
But do the trading and resource systems remain the same? I do not know a single player or streamer that enjoys Imperator's trading system
It's s great! Have you seen any better trading system except Vicky(which also got drawbacks)? In Eu4, it sucx completely, and in Stellaris, it is almost non-existent.
@@kornelg8584 You are saying that trading in Imperator is good? It is a nightmare once your empire grows bigger than Italy. This is probably one of the reasons why Imperator is so unsuccessful, as it quickly becomes a tedious, mundane task every 1-2 minutes.
@@misterbeach8826 In general you should just automate trade everywhere but your capital province and maybe one or two other really important provinces (so for Rome it would be Latium and maybe Etruria and the province that contains Neapolis). It becomes a lot less tedious that way and generally surpluses are less important in those provinces anyways. If you don't want to automate, just focus on trade routes inside your empire, because even though it makes you a little less money, the stability of those routes is far greater and thus you have to change it less.
@misterbeach8826 No one who disliked IR lasted that long to experience this mico management problem you talk about. There is also option to automate trade in provinces. Before you grow too much, this system is fun and rewarding - you can really make a difference with your actions and build up over the years. What are your ideas to make it better? In Vicky 3 trade system gets tedious later on and especially with wars and embargoes, and there is no option to automate it.
stream is a great idea
This is EPIC. I never thought I’d ever see the day.
Good for me, was planning to buy it in a lil while lol
Cool, I hope a lot of cool stuff is coming. I love the game and is the second most played paradox game, I have played. My favorite faction is byzantion (I know, I am I Byzantinumfile). Sadly Vitoria 3 and CK3 has not taking me yet, not having the strong soundtrack as EU3, CK2I or stellar is. Imperator has a good soundtrack, but sadly not as much because it got cancelled. If new stuff is coming, I will buy it.
It’s an Amazing game glad it’s getting the love and attention it deserves👏
Holy cow, Ludi is popping off.
Imperator is such an underrated game, I wish more people had given it a second chance after 2.0. It's a really interesting hybrid of CK and EU that also pulls a couple ideas from Stellaris, it really could've carved out its own niche if it hadn't been axed
I might buy Imperator when I'll have the money and hope new DLCs will be made.
I know it’s not supposed to be, but it’s funny to me that you said “10’s of creators” I never even heard it before, but I love the game so I’ll keep playing
"why is it not called Carthage.. because we FUCKING salted it!" hahahahah XD
last game i played was tall Crete and it was amazing! this is a good game!
Can someone explain more about the combat system? As I understand the system similar to EU4 but no second line for range units like artillery. What is the point of having Archer? the archer should be a damage dealer but it looks like light infantry that runs from combat faster and flanks very far but they haven't had a chance to do that advantage.
YES! Thank you all!
Ludi, make a video ranking easiest to hardest Paradox games to learn.
Can you play this game without dlcs? Or is it a pain without dlcs?
I genuinely hope the intrest in EU5 and what the devs have coming out spurs people to try Imperator again as so many mechanics have been influenced by this game, even down to the texturing of the map.
From a Sabin follower, Tuscia is pronounced "Tooshia" in Italian pronunciation. I could mistake, but I think the Latin pronunciation should be "Tooskia".
That's a fine fucking alley we've got here
Never stopped playing. Never lost hope. Only have no idea how will I manage to find time to play both Imperator, EUV (when it's out), KCD 2 and Manor Lords while still keeping family and business :)
I really liked the look and feel of Imperator Rome. The map itself was amazing to look at, in my opinion one of the best looking PDS games to look at, better than Victoria 3. But it was bare bones. Your statement in another video saying that Johan spearheaded this game in 6 months kind of makes sense, it was lacking in a lot of areas but had a good foundation. But that seems to be standard for PDS titles for along time now. Since HOI IV and Stellaris at least. HOI IV was awful at release, now it is the best 4x game out there. Victoria 3 has a long way to go but I am excited for it to be fleshed out. Glad to hear Imperator is still being worked on, albeit, very slowly. I wouldn't doubt it if it is being worked on by some developers on their own time that don't want to see this game buried 6ft under for the rest of eternity.
We all got many more videos to make. The anniversary is coming soon! And ModCon!
Hi Ludi! Great game with Rome!
World Conquest, please!
There are tens of us. Tens!
Yay. Im not even going to mention sicily right now. This is hype.
I would like to see you play as a Dacian tribe.
i hope they update it cus game looks fun but since idk if it will update i dont wanna like buy a game that wont update
I always loved Imperator Rome and never understood the hate it got
I believe in you !
i might buy the game now but ima wait till official statement
We are soooo back
IR is such a great game. I really liked it and will definitely look at it again, when I find some spare time
I'm a EU4, CK3, Stellaris, VIC3 and HOI4 veteran and am now inspired to give Imperator: Rome a whirl.
First, Ludi's jokes about living in the basement. Then, all those videos about imperator began to appear. Ludi, blink twice in the next video, if you're kept as a hostage in Johan's basement!
This isnt Vic3, you can raise your armies, station them at the border and insta-walk into enemy territory (sometimes without them even calling-in their own levies) and the forts will have 200-300 soldiers instead of 500/1000 and thus making assaulting more valuable
The samnites where the bitter enemy of Rome in their early days, specially bcz romans fought with heavy infantry in the mountains
I would go light inf instead in my playthrough
I'm so glad, loved Imperator
Just bought Imperator to give it a fair shot, here's hoping Paradox gives it a little more love going forwards!
Cant see any info about this patch on steam forums or pdx forums
That corrupt researcher event is not bad, you jump the progression so in essence you (almost later) get the new technological advancement this way
Another thing that is awesome is that reseachers with specific quirks generate innovations through the Breakthrough! pop up
I agree with carthage and Macedon... But you could do a Dacia campaing... Just an idea
