    I can't believe how much this sounds like bagpipes while sounding nothing at all like bagpipes. My brain is apparently confused by the drone tone🤷‍♂️🤦‍♂️😅 Great job regardless!! That's awesome!

  • @LouisEmery

    There seems to be a piece of clothing caught on the tuning pegs. I used a spectrometer (Spectroid app) to view the frequencies of the notes played. Lots of drone strings apparent..

      On the big pegs, it's the instrument's strap. On the finetuners, it's my braid.

    About the sweater maker: Nora B Kvam? Is this a real name? Like "bekväm"?

    • @EmelieWaldken
      @EmelieWaldken  Před 11 měsíci +1

      Hahaha yes it's a real name and a real person. The B stands for a name but it's common in Norway to only use the initial for the middle name.

      I was just about to say that! Yes, it is a modern Greek bouzouki tuning, same intervals as the 4 upper strings of a guitar one full step lower.

    I clearly understand that playing the nyckelharpa is a science of its own, but I've been trying to play the nyckelharpa for a while now but...
    I can't get the same type of ''clarity'' as in this video 😕
    I've replaced the strings and purchased a new bow, but I don't know if the resin-cake I have is out of date....
    The resin block that came along the Harp I bought is old, like really, REALLY old.
    Can I clean the bow somehow and apply new resin from a fresh resin block?
    And by the way... That September tune sounds really good! I bet if Astrid Lindgren would still be alive she would definitely ask you to write music for her 😉

    • @EmelieWaldken
      @EmelieWaldken  Před 11 měsíci +2

      There are many, many factors at play for getting a clear/clean sound on nyckelharpa.
      You got a good bow, that's GREAT and absolutely necessary =) Good strings are always a plus too. Then there's the quality of your nyckelharpa keyboard itself. So many nyckelharpas I try (even built by pros) have some keyboard problem, it's super common. And it can really muddle one's playing a heck lot.
      And then there's your playing itself, which is "just" a question of time and practice and patience... there is no secret in the end, it's long and difficult, and progress can feel so damn slow. But it's still progress !
      About rosin : It doesn't have that big of an impact, in my experience. Yes, better rosin is better, but makes less difference than bow or keyboard.
      You can absolutely clean your bowhair (with alcohol, being careful not to get any on the wood, and then water and a bit of soap, then press in a towel gently and let airdry) and reapply better rosin (I love the Bernardel gold, but there are many good ones, basically any viola or cello rosin works and most of the violin's too).
      And thank you for one of the most beautiful compliments I ever got on my compositions =)

    • @EmelieWaldken
      @EmelieWaldken  Před 11 měsíci

      Yes ! Instead of CGDA it's CFAD ! So the second string (usually D) is a fourth lower than usual and that poor first string (usually A) is a whole fifth down ^^
