  • Bad mentality, poor technique, narrow repertoire and discarding history and logic altogether : all the bad clichés about swedish Nyckelharpa I could think of, mashed in one satirical video. Enjoy !
    The instrument is a swedish nyckelharpa, more infos here : www.emeliewaldken.net/nyckelh...
    Builder of this one : Jean-Claude Condi (Mirecourt, France)
    Background music : 'Ögaht' by my new project Yrrdøth with Rutja Ålvarsson on drums and vocals.
    (Fake band, fake name, cliché themes and style.)

    Special thanks to Yukine for the wig-crashcourse : www.etsy.com/people/YukineCos...

    Emelie, sooooo fantastic!!!
    I just have to add two rules more :-)
    First: You need of course a four-rowed nyckelharpa because the trad three-rowed is only a "Beginner-instrument"! haha (Yes, I had some customers who told me this)
    Second: Trade with the typical internet behaviour and ask only for the price when you purchase your instrument. Only 500 Dollar but full sound and in perfect condition with four rows, yes! Ask never about the quality or which will fit to you!
    ---- my two cents ---

    • @EmelieWaldken
      @EmelieWaldken  Před 3 lety +4

      Yeah, a pristine custom-made 4-rows NOT-BEGINNER nyckelharpa for 500 € demanded by someone who has no idea of anything about the instrument and will end up playing on 4 keys anyways and with a stick for a bow.
      Also facepalm at the "beginner instrument". I'm all in for the 4-rows, having one myself and loving it, but there are so many amazing musicians who own 3-rows and do wonderful things with them...
      I've also met the kind who buys the most custom and special and extended model (and bow) and constantly wants upgrades... but never practices. And therefore never plays good, never makes any progress, and then wants more special expensive extended features to solve it. AHEM. XD

    Aside from all the other very excellent points made in this video, another thing that kind of irritates me is how instruments like the nyckelharpa, moraharpa, jouhikko, tagelharpa etc always just get called "viking" instruments in the first place. I've even seen people selling tagelharpas under the name "viking violin" or "viking fiddle" or something of the sort. Firstly, "viking" means raider, not Scandinavian person. Not everybody from Scandinavia during the viking period was a viking. Secondly, the viking era ended in 1066 which is waaaay before the time when all of these instruments are believed to have been invented. In fact, by the time they all came around, most Scandinavian people had become Christian. Seriously, if people actually genuinely cared about the heritage of these instruments then I don't think they'd be spreading all of this fantasy misinformation. If people want to play a certain style of music, that's their choice but I really am not a fan of spreading misinformation and trying to re-write history to fit a narrative.

    J'ai tellement ri XD Thorvild Fille de la Nuit, c'est parfait.
    Et sinon on peut aussi se servir de la nyckelharpa comme d'un arc, non ? Non ? Ah ... C'est nul alors. Parce que les vikings aimaient bien utiliser leurs instruments comme arme aussi, si si, ils l'ont dit à la télé. Même que j'ai fait une arbalète avec ma lyre et que je compte bien m'en servir en utilisant ma voisine comme cible mouvante.
    (Est-ce que j'ai frisé l'apoplexie avec le coup de la farine sur la nyckelharpa ? C'est possible oui)

      @EmelieWaldken  Před 3 lety

      Ah mais j'ai longtemps recherché le meilleur nom pour mon alter-ego vikinguesque ! Sinon pour la nyckelharpa comme arc je ne sais pas, mais sans rire, les deux premiers textes qui mentionnent la nyckelharpa sont des comptes-rendus de procès : le premier à propos de deux soldats ivres qui étaient entrés par effraction dans une maison lors d'une permission et avaient dérangé tout le quartier à grands renforts de clarinette et de nyckelharpa ; le second à propos d'un agriculteur qui en avait tué un autre à coups de nyckelharpa. Je me souviens plus des dates, mais comme dit ce sont les premières mentions de l'instrument en texte. Pas mal non ?
      (Oui moi aussi pendant que je le faisais !)
