I love how Ash beating Brandon was a big point of contention in the Ash/Paul rivalry
I didn't realize, but now that I think about it, Paul becomes a bit less of a jerk after he finds this out iirc.
I thought Brandon was his Father. Just like how we later learned that Barry's Father is a Frontier Brain as well in Sinnoh.
Not his father but Brandon did beat both Paul and his Brother Reggie. The battle with Paul being one of my favorites in the entire series. Damn Sinnoh was good.
Ash got it easy battling Brandon in the 3 time. Brandon didn't use all 3 Regi on ash, not like when he battle paul

I loved this arc as a kid! This was the perfect transition from the Hoenn League, and the perfect transition into the Sinnoh series! Thanks for doing this Zac. Can’t wait for the actual Galar League.
The end of the battle frontier arc was teasing sinnoh like crazy lol we got a filler episode with chatot then the next filler episode was about weavile I remember those 2 episodes because I saw them recently lol 😂

To this day the battle frontier season is still one of my absolute fav seasons of Pokémon! It did so many things right with the battles, adapting the battle frontier to the anime, and bringing back old Pokémon for nostalgia and Fan service but in the best way possible. This same strategy is applied to the Sinnoh league with added strategy and makes it feel like a battle frontier 2.0. It still holds up and definitely was my fav season of Pokémon before DP came along. And the music throughout Hoenn made it even better! Great review man! Now it’s time to watch the Alola league review. Yeah I know, mad late watching it. 😅😅

I think Brandon tests all his challengers by being very brash at first. He does this to weed out those fall short and give up vs. those who truly want to be a master of the Battle Frontier. Look at Sinnoh where Reggie mentioned that Brandon eviscerated him even though like Ash, he had gone through the other leagues.
The Battle Frontier arc was awesome. It was one of my first introductions to the pokemon anime. I was really disappointed to find out that there was a Battle Frontier in the Diamond and Peral games and Ash didn't particapte in it. I really hope Ash particaptes in the Sinnoh Battle Frontier arc for the new series. Plus it would be a great way to introduce the upcoming Diamond and Pearl remakes

This was super nostalgic, and one of my favorite eras of the anime. I wish they would showcase more post game content in the anime. Also I think it would be cool to go back and do the style anime review for each of the movies! We have lots of time on our hands lol.
I still find it hilarious that Annabel has a Canon Crush on Ash and he was oblivious to the whole thing
And that’s news? This was done numerous times, notably with Serena. Yes, she’s controversial to shippers, but she’s still an example.
I like how one of the only times Ash showed interest in a girl was with that one Lass back in the Indigo League.

Montecristo Smith That was a case of the first episode weirdness trope where the writers were still trying to figure out Ash’s character. He never showed any interest in a relationship after that episode.

@@valydendor4472 Would you really count Ghost tower tho? Since he was really just unconscious from the fall of the chandelier until the ghost pokemon pulled his soul from his body and then later he just simply jumped back in his body like it was nothing.
@@MSCLeap75 A chandelier fell on him and he got electrocuted right after. The way the ghost types reacted when they didn't respond, minus Haunter, was that of worry. I'm confident in saying that they died for at least a little while.
Please review the Grand Festival/Showcase arcs as they're kinda like Pokemon Leagues except for the PokeGirls.

The Battle Frontier... the only region where Ash actually moves up levels and we legitimately see his progression live as it’s happening. Also, the Battle Frontier, up to that point, was the most accurate game-to-screen anime season we’d gotten
Even though the location of the Frontier changes between regions.
My favorite moment of Ash v. Brandon #3 is when Pikachu uses 2 Iron Tails in a row. Back when Pikachu was just learning Iron Tail, it actually was physically incapable of doing so, so the fact that Pikachu started off only being able to do one Iron Tail, to being able to do 2 in a row was amazing. It just goes to show how far both Ash AND Pikachu have come since starting out.

Great video. Battle Frontier was one of the most impressive arcs in my opinion, and the one, which saved AG for me from boredom. Still salty, that Sinnoh Battle Frontier didn`t get a proper treatment, like Hoenn one.

This arc was epic and the peak of Ash Ketchum as trainer (until Ash vs Kukui), he beat the 7 Frontier brains who are as strong as E4 members and defeated 2 legendaries in 1 vs 1, it was the best way to end the advanced generation series
Tbh, I don't know why Brandon is said to be that strong because I could see him being a champion. I'd say if he was a champion he would be just below Leon, Ash, and Cynthia considering he barely lost to Ash and he didn't use two of his legendaries when Ash beat him. Now sure, Ash is stronger and would smoke him if he used his strongest Pokémon but I still could see him destroying Lance, Steven, Iris, and Diantha tbh. Alain would give him a challenge and might beat him but I'd say he would be behind only the ones I mentioned.
Ash’s battle style isn’t actually that unpredictable. He’s just an opportunist. Also I don’t mind charizard loosing in episode 10, but if they’re going to Include dusclops’ immunity to seismic toss, why was dusclops able to hurt him with will-o-wisp.
For some reason Will-o-Wisp was considered as an offensive move lol

He said that was the one to be on par with the Kalos League battles in terms of pacing.

1. Hoenn had overall bad animation, even johto's was better
2. I wish you would've talked about the final battle of this season Ash vs Gary, Gary himself pointed out Ash's flaw, getting cocky because he won the frontier brains

The battle was and is still one of my favorite moments in the anime it was just awesome to see ash use so many pokemon and every battle felt unique
Great review and a nice look at how the Battle Frontier was used to help Ash grow strategically and show off all his bonds with his Pokemon and how they've all changed since their first meetings.
Even though torkoal is a bad pokemon, it put a good fight against Reggie steel And is at least better then stupid Unfent and goodra!

Hey Zac! Love your videos man!! Idk if this is something you'd even consider but you should definitely review the grand festivals and multi-arc tournaments (e.g. Wallace Cup, Club Battle/Clubsplosion in B/W, etc.). Your style of reviewing is awesome and I think it would be great content!!
When I saw the Galar League title and the length of the video, I thought he was going to make a story up for an entire league for a second. That’d be kinda hilarious actually
Noland: I remember thinking OMG Charizard learned Blast Burn! Then was disappointed that it was only Overheat (that 'missed' due to Water Pulse)...
Greta: Ash didn't use Swellow or Noctowl instead of Grovyle because...
Tucker: Ok, giving Ash PROPS because the intro before the battle was EPICCCC! Great combos in the match, BUT let's be real; Ash had no business winning with Swellow and Corphish HAHA Swampert used like 5 moves so I guess that's karma from Snorlax using 6 before! Ash's team didn't even land an attack on their opponents aside from when they used Aerial Ace and Crabhammer to win! Correct me if I'm wrong but aside from those finishing blows, the only other time Arcanine and Swampert took damage was when they accidentally rammed into each other when Swellow sped up Double Team with Quick Attack! The water/fire fusion was epic because it was used by May in the Grand Festival and then her and Dawn did it during the D/P series!

Spenser: Overall, solid battle! Great to see Heracross again!
Anabel: Alakazam was so annoying/strong! Geez if Corphish had evolved it would've done great in that battle (even better than it did). Not sure why you'd ever teach Focus Punch to an Alakazam...Anabel's whole 'talking' to Pokemon thing reminded me of Spenser's Battle Area in the games where your Pokemon will 'battle for themselves' and it all comes down to their natures determining defense vs offensive moments. Interesting stuff!
Brandon: 1st match was trash.....2nd match was actually GOOD! Why not use Donphan? Immune to Zap Cannon, not effected by Sandstorm so the only thing Registeel could do is Lock on for Metal Claw, BUT Donphan's rolling speed would EASILY make it much faster than Registeel! Not to mention it knew Earthquake as a Phanphy! 3rd battle...Ash's "OH NO I FORGOT!" when Seismic Toss was used on a Ghost type...I'll never forget that OR when Pikachu took out a FULLY RESTORED Regice (thanks to Rest) with a Volt Tackle...the ref didn't even see if it could still battle. It was slammed against the wall and like 2 seconds later; REGICE IS UNABLE TO BATTLE PIKACHU IS THE WINNER! Bro...too bad Hala wasn't there to call out that b.s. nonsense!

For the 2nd battle with Brandon, Donphan could’ve use Earthquake because the anime banned it. And I don’t think that Donphan can learn any other ground type attacks.
@@davidanthonymercado7064 Just checked Gen 3 moveset and dang...aside from Fissure that was the ONLY Ground move it could learn...that stinks oh or Mud Slap haha
Ash don't know about Registeel moveset and Fire type resist steel type attack, also Earthquake, magnitude and fissure moves are banned since whiscash earthquake Episode.
Remember, everyone: The battle frontier was said to be as strong as the elite four.
Hell Brandon easily could've been a champion.

This is my favourite arc... remember coming back from school and watchin these episodes from 4pm and onwards.. felt like a trip to a wonderland.

I kinda understand Brandon's atitude in Battling the Enemy Within. Ash's arrogance led to him being possessed and basically almost _kill_ the referee in their first match. Ash _is_ to blame here.
But what I never understood is how he tells Ash for being arrogant, and yet when he faces Paul he praises his battle skills. Pretty much being oblivious to Paul's abuse towards his Pokémon.
I get that Ash nowadays, when he goes to a new region, wants to give his new pokemon a chance. But I would appreciate if Ash would bring back some of his old pokemon again, like he di in johto, hoenn and sinnoh. It would be cool to see his Kanto pokemon, Greeninja, Infenape and Krookodile return for future battles in the Masters 8 in particular.
Yeah for the leagues it would work for me but for like the gym stuff or anything else like that it doesn’t work for me
Thanks for this. The battle frontier season was the only season that I for some reason never got to see. So, this was really helpful and interesting to see.

One line that I think deserves more recognition is before Ash vs. Brandon (second rematch). Scott said that the stronger you get, the stronger your opponents will be.

They really went up on the Battle Animation Budget this Season because the Contest Battles were awesome as well. Also it was the first Season I watched in Japanese.
It's so Criminal that we never got a New Battle Frontier Series. I really thought Ash was going to that Northeastern Island of Sinnoh to challenge it like in Platinum or Back to Johto.
Great video as usual, Zac. In case it has not been recommended yet, you should review all of Ash' s gym leader battles, May and Dawn's contest performances, and some of the rival battles.

Brandon was very wise, his advice was what made Ash the serious trainer he is today. Ash was kinda arrogant back then making stupid mistakes without thinking. The battle frontier was my favorite since Ash learned about the importance of being one with your Pokémon and check out of how it helped Ash with his connection with Greninja.

Here’s a good idea for ya zac!!! I hope this helps. Maybe review every caught Pokémon by ash in the region. Like review the episode he caught the Pokémon in and if you think he should have caught it or maybe something else. Or review every rival battle for each generation in the anime except the Pokémon league battles. Like in kalos with the battles with sawyer before his league battle. Just an idea!! If you use it please do a shout-out appreciate it !

The Battle Frontier arc had one of the best battles in the series and truly show Ash's growth in battling, however I remember not liking it as much because of the voice changes and getting annoyed at Team Rockets typical antics of getting in Ash's way. Looking back at it now, this arc was really great for Ash.

Well to be fair the reason Charizard lost to dusclops was because ash commanded Charizard to use seismic toss while that sh*t head forgot it doesn't have any effect on dusclops because it's a ghost type so basically Charizard siesmic tossed him self

David Anthony Mercado Noivern never sucked. Ash just kept pitting it against bad matchups (Alain’s Weavile for example).
