Other people have also pointed this out, but It's interesting to look at most of Ash's Alola League battles and see how they're set up to avenge his previous League Losses.
Indigo: Squirtle is ruled to be knocked out after getting hit with sleep powder and Charizard refuses to fight by taking a nap. Alola: Rowlet is ruled to be still able to fight since it fell asleep instead of being knocked out.
Johto: Ash's Fire type starter Charizard loses to another trainer's fully evolved fire-type starter Blaziken. Alola: Ash defeats a Fully evolved fire-type starter Incinaroar with his own fire type starter Torracat.
Hoenn: Ash loses to an unevolved Meowth wearing clothes. Alola: Ash wins with an unevolved Pokemon wearing clothes (Rowlet).
Sinnoh: Ash loses to a trainer using two Legendaries. Alola: Ash catches two Legendary-esq Pokemon (Nagandel and Melmetal). and defeats two Legendaries during the League (Sivally and Tapu Koko).
Unova: Ash loses to Cameron when the latter's Riolu evolves into Lucario in the middle of the match and defeats his remaining team. Alola: Ash defeats a Lucario without losing a single Pokemon. Also, Torracat evolves AFTER defeating Incinaroar so the evolution doesn't feel like Plot Armor.
Kalos: Ash loses to a trainer with a fully evolved fire starter that stumbles briefly before standing while Greninja goes down to a Blast Burn. Alola: Torracat not only absorbs a Blast Burn; but after his final clash with Incinaroar, he stumbles briefly before standing while Incinaroar goes down.

Just finished watching the alola anime for the first time and my goodness the league was amazing! So much character moments, so much continuity. They didn't rush anything and didn't waste our time. This is what you get when you let the league have more episodes. I was smiling the whole time. Seriously, might be my new favourite league. And truly the climax to the alola anime.
That's what Alola all about, story telling.
Thx to Zac, I decided to watch the sun & moon series and was way better then I expected, now I'm from a sun & moon hater to a huge fan!❤️

Yes even i didn't predict that ash really would won the league because ash looks so damn in the entire gen 7 series unlike gen 6 but the resault were different
While Jessie vs James was pretty lame, it was nice to see James bond with his Pokémon.
I always loved that about him. Because of how his family treated him, he always loves and respects his Pokémon and his team. This is heavily emphasized in how a good portion of his Pokémon hug him before a battle and has released some for their happiness like Ash has.
That's why I like Team Rocket as a whole. They're evil, but never heartless. They know where that line stands.
Esteban Maysonet agreed and honestly I think James would be better off not being in team rocket
To see James Bond 😂
Remember the episode where Ash met Rowlet? Team rocket tried to steal the berries for beweaar!
Agreed. They maybe a group of idiots, but all 3 of them (4 including Wobbuffet) have their moments
They sided with Ash and his friends to defeat Team Flare in XYZ, and they refused to help Faba remove Lillie's memories. They are evil, but they know where the line is. I always loved that about Team Rocket. They also appear to love but hate Ash, because many times they're like "Ash is our enemy, but only OUR enemy. If you dare to become his enemy, you have to get through us first."

Me: and now, you have officially carried it too far, buddy.
Sun and Moon series was awesome and Ash got some of his best achievements there: Ash caught mythical pokemon melmetal and ultrabeast naganadel who are as powerful as legendaries, beat 2 legendary pokemon (silvally and tapu koko), won the pokemon league and defeated Kukui who was the unofficial CHAMPION of alola (the strongest trainer of the region). And there are more things, all Ash's pokemon had their moments to shine and writers didn't RESET ash's pikachu; definitely one of the best pokemon series
I love the battle between Lana and Mallow. Great action and the speech Lana gives to Mallow when Mallow wants to give up is so inspiring.
Ash winning was one of the most epic things that I’ve ever seen thus far.
I was seriously psyched when I saw that ash's Lycanroc was still standing, and when ash was announced the winner, I was soooooo happy! Like, he did it, it finally happened, ASH WON A LEAGUE!!!
If ash hadn't used Counter when he did, that probably wouldn't have happened. Great move on his part
And it's my favourite moment of 2019.
@@dannystavs2003 Same here, though I really wish it hadn’t been spoiled. It was still awesome to see though. Ash’s determination to never give up finally paid off! Lycanroc’s focus returning and it’s savage counterattack coupled with the triumphant music and finally Gladion’s Lycanroc being thrown to the wall and collapsing was amazing to see! It was also a nice touch that we saw Gladion’s shock, the scoreboard in the background, and that everyone went silent for a few seconds before Kukui smiled and declared Ash the winner!

Orange League?
Dark PokeShipper and sinnoh league
Sinnoh and Kalos League he definitely should have one, but this one? Nah this man had 2 mythicals and a new form of a already known mon.
@@geartime5383 Bruh the character development that the Pokemon had in Sun and Moon was honestly better than Diamond and Pearl and XY even if it didn't make Ash's battle escalation like other league.
The character development between Pokémon that was near equally spread among all the Pokémon was worth the victory which all the Pokémon didn't get in other seasons except the star Pokémon.
In my opinion Ash should have won Sinnoh not so much Kalos because I think Alan is the better trainer with Mega Charizard at that point compared to Ash with Ash Greninja which he had just mastered... However he could have won that battle as well tho considering the XY anime was so battle focused and on Ash as a trainer.
Also this Pokémon season being entirely Slice of life show the chill episodes were expected when almost all the episodes come back to serve some purpose throughout the show.
Almost all episodes furthered all the characters' in one way or another growing or was in service of another story arc like Solgaleo arc and Poipole and Necrozma arc. Even Ash grows to appreciate the region and making friends and supporting his Pokémon's development.
Sinnoh had 50 episodes that literally did nothing in between 2 badges at one point.

I know they did less pokemon so that they fit more battles into an episode, but it's very odd to have a finals match that's only 3v3 kinda wish gladion had 3 more mons but it was still really hype. Ash vs Kuki made up for that too by being 6v6.

Alola League is probably my favorite along with the Sinnoh League. Also respect that despite your favorite region being Kalos (I assume), you weren’t giving it undeserved praise because it’s your favorite. Lot of people have argued against me loving the Alola League even in its early stages, claiming Kalos had everything that Alola could never live up to, yeah and look who gets the last laugh. That final battle against Kukui was literally a reward to those who followed the series through, and could only be fully enjoyed and satisfy those who watched Alola from start to finish
Thanks for such an awesome come! You totally get it :)
Lumiose Trainer Zac all legit Pokémon fans will! You summed it up so well, and I didn’t have any complaints about any ratings you gave
Andrés haha honestly it’s been a few months since I wrote this so I don’t quite remember what I meant also. But yeah you’re right! Also thanks!
@@Zactoshi I defs get u Zac. I didn't care about the new art style or the fact that it was a laid back series for the most part. SM has a great story to tell and told it beautifully. Plus we got the league win we all wanted to see so everyone give this series some love instead of criticism
@Andrés you know if this league had 8 badge requirements and we don't know anything about the participants than we all assume that every trainer is league level because we seen some trainers from indigo to unova league who look even weaker than Lana and Sophocle, also Illima participate in Kalos league that put Guzma, Gladion and Kiawe as league level as they're more stronger than him.

Hell yeah, I love the Alola League :)
Also, the main reason they put less-animated cutaways during episodes is because of how animation production works in Japan. Often, a studio is given a set number of frames to produce for an episode. So what usually happens is they decide to focus their efforts on a specific part of the episode to make it look amazing, and then cut corners a bit in slow parts of the episode where you wouldn’t really notice.
This is also why they use “canned sakuga”, or great snippets of animation they can reuse over and over again to save time. Anime production studios are hella overworked, which is why they need to cut corners in this way to produce an episode. If anything, an episode that’s all battle worries me, because the corners have to be cut during the action.
EDIT: Come to think of it, that might be why we got an episode of almost entirely canned sakuga right before the exhibition match. It gave the animators enough breathing room to make the full battle as cool as it was!
Still goosebumps when I see the finals and exhibition match ,such a fiery interesting battles
Man I loved the whole Sun and Moon saga, it is one of my favorite sagas of all, i was one of the guys who left the anime after Kalos League, and was realy upset, but i was still playing the games, and Sun an Moon is my second favorite game, only behind Ruby/ Saphire, so i decided to watch the whole thing, and man i loved from the begining till the end.
Same! My Second or Third favourite for sure!

something i would've liked: Lillie's vulpix evolve into a ninetales. WOULD'VE BEEN AWESOME. also why is vulpix lillie's only pokemon?
Alolan vulpix can’t evolve normally and requires and ice stone to do so (though she did get one a few episodes back)
I love Guzma’s arc so much. Zac, you hit the nail in the head with your two cents on that.
I hope when the dub gets to the Alola League his battle with Ash is just as good, as his dub VA actually fits him quite well.
@Pikachu
And keep the music!

I'm not gonna lie I really don't think Ash's Rowlet should have won that fight. Like Rowlet is the first version! His opponent has the final form! Like c'mon who's gonna win the bigger, stronger one or the underevovled, weaker version? (Sorry I'm ranting ._.)
Janet I agree that Decidueye should technically win because it’s the evolved form. But this is the anime where Ash’s Pikachu can beat Tapu Koko. The writers just don’t follow the rules of actual Pokémon games, they follow their own 😂
As my friend Roman from fast and furious once said Ash is hungry
Just a Sea pig with internet access Ash’s Pikachu is probably level 120 by now 😂😂
I mean pikachu should be this strong
i think sophocles really shined in his battle with kiawe and i also think that if kiawe didn't have a z -move he would have probably lost.
imagine ash’s infernape is using blaze while doing inferno overdrive
It would definitely crush anything standing in its way
@Harshvardhan Patil give the z move enough power with stab and the blaze boost and even something that quad resists it is done for
Actually, this video made me watch the whole Sun/Moon Anime. I was pretty hyped about Pokémon XY/Z and watched every episode when it came out but when its successor was announced, I was very intriged by the artstyle and the general idea of Pokemon school. But after this video in particular I decided to give it a chance and I did not regret it at any point.
The league itself was very decently made. I liked the fact that Ash and especially his Pokémon could face their rivals and overcome them. Except for Ash vs. Ha'u there weren't any Deus Ex moments, like tide turning evolutions etc. Of course, the victory against Ha'u didn't feel deserved, having two "bullshit" moments, but on the other hand Rowlet has always been a gimicky character so it is not that surprising. I liked even more the fact that Ash's Torracat evolved after beating Kukui's Inceneroar, not in the middle.
Also, I liked the choice of having "shorter" battles throughout the league up to the finals (partially due to the fact that many protagonists didn't even have enough Pokémon to compete). It might feel incomplete to have a 3v3 in a league's finale but on the other hand I prefer knowing each of the contester's Pokémon instead of throwing in some "noname" Pokémon that would be very forgettable (which can be seen in the exhibition match).
Overall, this might be my favorite league of all (I still need to let that sink in before I make a final decision). Of course there was some wasted potential, like having an all out battle between Jessie and James, but in the end this is a league and a season I will happily look back to (and surely watch my favorite moments again and again).
Great way to put it, the Alola League made every battle seem to have some kind of importance and it was amazing to see every single battle play out, even if there were no full-on battles until Ash’s exhibition match with Kukui. The league didn’t feel like it was made only to achieve victory, rather it was to strengthen the bonds of rivals and friends alike, create a fun and new experience for everybody to enjoy, and bring a new tradition into the region, and those points can be confirmed by Kukui’s intentions of making the league.

It’s so deserving that pikachu won the actual final battle....such a cutie.
TitanicMegalodon simp
Nah. The reason Pikachu deserved to win the battle with Kukui and Tapu Koko is because he’s failed Ash in more leagues than any other Pokémon. In Kanto and Johto it was Charizard, and in Kalos it was Greninja. But it fell to Pikachu to pull through against Tyson’s Meowth in Hoenn, Cameron’s Lucario in Unova, and Tobias with Latios and four other unknown Pokémon, and he lost each time. So since Ash’s savior Lycanroc went down first against Kukui, it was Pikachu’s job to finish the match, and he was incredible! Definitely one of the best moments in the entire series!
Could Pikachu defeat Tapu koko without that final Z-move? 🤔
Mattias olsson probably not tbh

You know what guys, speaking as a 25-year-old man who has seen every single episode of Pokémon since the 90s, the Sun and Moon series is so freaking good! Just think of all the amazing places this series has taken us too: we got to see death handled more than once in a mature and sensible way- Including seeing one of the main characters recount the trauma of her mother dying, we saw recurring character is getting married, all of the sun and moon legendary Pokémon were featured- including mythical Pokémon- and more, Ash got actual legendary Pokémon on his team and won the freaking league, and by God can we talk about how team rocket Webb brought back better than ever?
