  • This update shows the build/modifications made to a Summit Customcuts house kit. Also shown is the completion of the road overpass and the installation of a farm house.
The road was stripped and looks okay for now. The hillside on the peninsula was modified with the addition of a rock carving as it just didn't look right. It still needs to be painted, weathered and blended into the overall embankment.

Outstanding series of videos, admire your attention to detail - I just don't get the 'thumbs down' on these contributions. Keep up the good work, a pleasure to watch and reminds me of my visits to PA when living in MN. Happy New Year from Ireland.

Hahaha, I wonder how many folks have been caught out with back-to-front curtains over the years Rob. I've been trying to remember how I've done them on past layouts and I'm not too sure. I'm pretty sure some houses have curtains with print on both sides but, looking at your sets, even the tie-backs are shown - 𝑡ℎ𝑒𝑦'𝑟𝑒 definitely on the inside.😁
If you wanted to be fancy, and authentic, I suppose you could glue 𝒕𝒘𝒐 sets back to back - without tie-backs.😂

Had an idea for your love of realism: for your house on the hill with tv antenna on the roof, add the light from a flickering tv by putting a small blue white LED in a dark room, but feed the LED from audio from a dollar store radio, adjust "volume" and station for best flicker effect.

    • @robbennett1965
      @robbennett1965 Před 7 lety

This actually did occur to me...I was thinking of adding a flashing LED (perhaps one of those "welding" kits) to simulate the flashes of a TV on at night. I know from driving around at night that one can really see a TV that is on inside a house by the flickering light. It may be an interesting effect!

Great road and bridge work. It's nice to have little details that maybe no one, apart from nearly 6000 subscribers!, will ever see, but you know is there and makes you chuckle. ;-)

Bridge came out GREAT Rob!! The drains were a nice touch. I wouldn't complain about the striping .... much better than I could have done! I like those kits too. One of these days, I'll have to try one or two of their kits.
    Merry Christmas! 🎅 🍻 🍺 🌲 🌲

Great video. As others have suggested, fibre optics could be the answer for the smaller lights. Remember at this time of year you can get some great deals on fibre decorations for almost nothing at your local discount store. Happy Xmas and New Year from Ireland.

Nice work. You might find one of the welding light kits. If you slow the flash down. It might look like its the TV working in the room.

I bet if you measure the house from the ground to the gutter it will measure 8 scale ft. The model designer forgot the house is 2' off the ground so the door got compressed. Your work looks great! The model maker had a not small oversight it that 2' oops in my opinion. Love your layout, would like to see some action video of you working on it.

Most of the kits available are some where 1:100 to TT scale, in some cases down to N-scale as the structures are huge and will dominate everything on a layout. Naturally it works both way as the typical modeller will get space for scenes and the companies will be able to sell more as with smaller scaled buildings leave space for th modeller to have more kits... But as more and more the trend is going to more detailed layouts, more and more scale building kits are offered.

How about drilling a small hole over the door above both doors of the house and mount a light on the inside of the building behind the hole. You could place some paint around the bulb to keep it from shining too much on the inside and you can make the hole to the scale size of what ever size light you want. Merry Christmas

Caught this older video. Wondering if you could use acetate or other thin film and print lighter on paper then add dim led behind to get some attention to the tv. Well done the way you did it. I would leave the roof off of any detailed interior when you have visitors or operators over. Adds to the experience! Well done.

Rob a great Job on the houses. You should make a pile of tin cans out the back of the Farm house. had a couple of Great Uncles that Lived on a farm and that is what they did with their tin cans when they finished with them, Just tossed them out the backdoor. When I was like 6-7 went with my Grandpa to visit, I was told to leave the boards to the well alone and leave the old pile of cans alone. A lot of Cool old beer cans in that Pile. hehehe Hey if you want me to paint some H.O. scale figures for you guys hit me up. It would be cool to paint you some figures. Drop me a IM or something.

Love the detail on the house! I think the side porch looks a little too large and too tall. What is the scale dimension of it? At the year of your railroad had UPS started putting white roofs on their trucks?

There were articles about using fiber optics and brass tubing for lampposts in either Model Railroader or Railroad Model Craftsman about 40 years ago, Try the archives of the publications. I'm thinking about using them for my Z-scale kingdom. That's right. I want a kingdom for my iron horse!
