Ah - that explains things - no nuts allowed, so they had to send Simon and couldn't send Matt.
This WAS a nut-free facility until GCN came.
I for one found it really interesting to know how they make them (they are my favoured brand) , but also their attention to detail and quality control. Cheers Si.

Very interesting. Surprised to see so many manual tasks in the factory....thought it would be more automated
David Gibson yeah the rolling out of the bars using manual labor seemed very old fashioned and not cost effective.
They putting in so much labor cost where they can just use autpmated machines that does it for them. Even if they can't afford the machines, that's why theres people that run factories that does everything for them and you can control cost of goods more efficiently because you pay for it done in bulk of per 1000 or 10 000 units.

Been making my own gels for over a year now. Basically made with:
Dates
Bananas
Almonds
Oats
Chocolate
It can be a pain at times but at least I know whatâs going in my body and itâs not all hyper concentrated processed sugars.

Good insight into how the bars are made only thing is I can't stand any of SIS products I have tried nearly all of them and the taste is rank sorry guy I will stick with home made or high5 which I can take just about :-D

Bought ten of these bars, two of them were moldy - I was lucky to open the first moldy one before the race, because during the race I would just eat it without examining it. It was well within the best before date (about half a year remaining). So... no, thanks, I will stick to the ones I make myself.
Sis is the only brand I use.... simply because they are the best.
Why does it focus to such an extend on doping? As non-pro I'd rather like to hear tips on good nutricion, like when to use which product, advantages over "normal" resin bars, what is when released and picked up by the body, and the such.

I sure hope the had a fire protection engineer look at their facility. I am a fire protection engineer that specialized in process facilities for awhile and that type of facility has a potential to have a combustible dust issue.
Russell yes that would be mandatory for insurance. Dust extraction in the batching area would see them right. The process from blending onwards is wet.

Nice SiS tour. Being a Yank, I'm all about the Clif bar life, especially when I can reliably get them bulk in the US for $ .90 (or less) a bar. I love baking, but it's so much cheaper to buy bars vs. make them.

There isnt even that much crap in them, but i am not paying a price for those at which i could make half a baking tray myself.
What I do: a baguette cut in 4, add honey and walnuts and kiwi slices for the acid flavour. 2 minutes to make, no baking or cooking, cheap and a ton of energy to deliver.

I was buying SIS products until I saw Aspartame in my drink mix. I canât believe I consumed countless bottles of this crap. Back to making my own bars and using companies like Skratch Labs.
